Nebenbestimmungen bei der Zulassung von Abfallentsorgungsanlagen unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des Instruments der Sicherheitsleistung

    No full text
The subject of the work is the ancillary provisions for the licensing of waste management facilities, which on the one hand restrict the requested permission, but on the other hand often make it possible to issue it in the first place. The main focus of the work is a detailed examination of the security aspects, which play a special role in the structure of collateral clauses. It will be examined to what extent the regulations on security in the licensing of waste management facilities in the BImSchG and KrWG allow an appropriate balance of conflicting interests in the tension between economy and environmental protection. In this context, the history, the scope for action in the official order of the security aspects and the constitutional implications are also examined in more detail. In addition, the specifics of waste management facilities are shown which justify the fact that the regulations of security for the other types of facilities of the BImSchG are generally not applicable

The article employs the methods of linguistic conceptual analysis to investigate the symbolic meanings of night imagery in the German song lyrics of the music project Lacrimosa, penned by Tilo Wolff. In his interpretation of said meanings, the author cites the world's cultural experience regarding night-related metaphors

Validation of scan sampling techniques for behavioural observations of pastured lambs

    No full text
The study of farm animal behaviour is a critical tool for assessing animal welfare. Collecting behavioural data with continuous sampling or short scan sampling intervals (eg every 60th second) is considered ideal as this provides the most complete and accurate dataset; however, these methods are also time and labour intensive. Longer sampling intervals provide an alternative in order to increase efficiency, but these require validation to ensure accurate estimation of the data. This study aims to validate scan sampling intervals for lambs (Ovis aries) housed on pasture. Grazing, lying, standing, drinking, locomotion, and mineral consumption were evaluated from six pens of crossbred lambs (six lambs per pen) for 15 h. Data from 1-min instantaneous scan sampling were compared with data from instantaneous scan sampling intervals of 5, 10, 15, and 20 min in two statistical tests: generalised linear mixed model and regression analysis. Using the mixed model, the percentage of time each behaviour was performed did not differ amongst sampling intervals for all behaviours except grazing, which was statistically different at 20-min intervals. Using regression analysis, lying and grazing estimations were accurate up to 20-min intervals, and standing was accurate at 10-And 20-min intervals only. Locomotion, mineral consumption, and drinking demonstrated poor associations for all tested intervals. The results from this study suggest that a 10-min instantaneous scan sampling interval will accurately estimate lying, grazing, and standing behaviour for lambs on pasture. This validation will assist with the efficiency of future data collection in lamb behaviour and welfare research

This cumulative dissertation contains three empirical research papers. In paper I, the author investigates the moderating influence of consumer confidence on the relationship between electronic word of mouth (eWOM) and sales. Using longitudinal product level data, the author demonstrates the changing effectiveness of different eWOM characteristics for consumersa decision making process in the light of varying economic conditions. Paper II turns the attention towards consumer purchase behavior in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) context. Using individual transaction data on the household level, the author reveals seven distinct shopping strategies and shows, how household switch shopping strategies when micro- and macroeconomic conditions change. Paper III investigates the impact of economic expansions and contractions on consumersa postpurchase satisfaction judgement expressed in the online opinion section of a retailer website. Using longitudinal data on the product level, the author demonstrates the distinct effects of economic expansions and contractions on consumersa opinion expressions in online environments

Elements of Magical Realism in the Odyssey of Protagonist in Chithra Bannerjee Divakaruni’s THE MISTRESS OF SPICES

Abstract This paper defines magical realism and traces its origin. It states how Chitralekha Banerjee Divakaruni has dexterously employed this literary device in her novel The Mistress of Spices. In Divakaruni’s novels, the opposites co-exist but instead of contradicting, they only complement one another. Her vivid and engaging style strongly supports the character development of the protagonists. The coexistence of magical fantasy and the characteristics of hybrid culture with postcolonial or postmodern novelistic devices in her novels and short stories has often led the author to define her writing approach as magical realism. Circumstances are never very easy in any of Divakaruni’s novels or short stories. Tilo plays many roles and keeps on changing her names to befit her roles. This universalizes the complex problem of identity crisis that the Indians try to cope up with, in a foreign land. She has been changing her name from NayanTara as a daughter to Bhagyavati during her stay with the pirates, then to Tilo, and finally Maya when she finds her love. The name Maya is very interesting to note since it means illusion. One can pause and ask whether Maya is real or another illusion created by the author to enhance the magical suspense in the novel or whether it is the newly found identity of Tilo. The name is noteworthy since the novel has magical elements. The name ?Maya? reinforces the theme. KEY WORDS: Magic realism, identity crisis, hybrid culture, metamorphosis

Social justice implications of domestic violence court processes

    No full text
With the legal system in the United States being used increasingly to protect domestic violence victims and to promote social justice, it is critical to examine the effectiveness of this intervention. This article discusses civil court processes and outcomes for a Unified Domestic Violence Court with an emphasis on the social justice and economic impact on families experiencing domestic violence. Data were gathered and analysed as a means for evaluating court processes, programmatic interventions, resources, and policies. The findings suggest that this particular court system may be failing to protect citizens, responding inequitably, and underutilizing existing resources.Journal ArticleFinal article publishe
