Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

En las últimas décadas, la investigación científica ha evidenciado el impacto positivo que la tradición musical puede tener en diversos contextos, destacándose su potencial en procesos educativos y comunitarios. Sin embargo, pese a su relevancia cultural y pedagógica, su incorporación en estos procesos sigue siendo limitada, lo que sugiere la necesidad de una revisión sistemática de los principales aportes de la literatura para comprender mejor sus posibilidades y limitaciones. En este marco se propuso este escrito, que tuvo como objetivo analizar los principales aportes de la literatura científica reciente para identificar las oportunidades y desafíos de la tradición musical como herramienta en procesos educativos y comunitarios. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFOral tradition is a cultural expression that collects generational narratives and is an exercise in memory through the spoken word. In the case of Guapi, oral tradition is a fundamental element of the ancestral culture of Afro-descendants in Colombian Cauca, which contains epistemic, axiological and pragmatic elements of the culture of the Pacific region. This study was carried out using a qualitative approach, specifically using documentary analysis as a methodology. Relevant documents were collected that addressed oral tradition and ancestral values ??in the municipality of Guapi, Colombia, especially in the context of the Afro-Colombian community. These documents included previous research, government reports, academic texts, and historical sources that provided information on local cultural practices and traditions. The documentary analysis made it possible to identify patterns, trends and key characteristics related to the oral tradition in the region, as well as its influence on the cultural identity and value system of the community. The results of this study provide important elements so that, from public policies and the chair of Afro-Colombian studies, ethno-education is strengthened and the cultural wealth of the municipality is duly estimated. On the other hand, this study leads to reflecting on customs and traditions that exist in a town; a legacy that weaves together every day ancestral knowledge that, when collected, strengthened and shared in the school context, invigorates pedagogical practices. Therefore, it is essential that the school be the setting where culture is created and recreated so that it lasts over time and transcends generations.La tradición oral es una expresión cultural, que recoge las narrativas generacionales y es un ejercicio de memoria a través de la palabra hablada. En el caso de Guapi, la tradición oral es un elemento fundamental de la cultura ancestral de los afrodescendientes en el Cauca Colombiano, que encierra elementos epistémicos, axiológicos y pragmáticos de la cultura de la región pacífica. Este estudio se llevó a cabo mediante un enfoque cualitativo, utilizando específicamente el análisis documental como metodología. Se recopilaron documentos relevantes que abordaban la tradición oral y los valores ancestral.es en el municipio de Guapi, Colombia, especialmente en el contexto de la comunidad afrocolombiana. Estos documentos incluyeron investigaciones previas, informes gubernamentales, textos académicos y fuentes históricas que proporcionaron información sobre las prácticas culturales y las tradiciones locales. El análisis documental permitió identificar patrones, tendencias y características clave relacionadas con la tradición oral en la región, así como su influencia en la identidad cultural y el sistema de valores de la comunidad. Los resultados de este estudio aportan elementos importantes para que, desde las políticas públicas y la cátedra de estudios afrocolombianos, se fortalezca la etnoeducación y se estime debidamente la riqueza cultural del municipio. Por otro lado, este estudio conduce a reflexionar sobre costumbres y tradiciones que están de un pueblo; un legado que entreteje saberes ancestrales cotidianos que al recopilarlos, fortalecerlos y compartirlos en el contexto escolar vigorizan las prácticas pedagógicas. Entonces, es fundamental que la escuela sea el escenario donde se cree y recree la cultura para que ésta perdure en el tiempo y trascienda las generaciones
