New records of the centropagid Boeckella triarticulata (Thomson, 1883) (Copepoda: Calanoida) in Northern Italy: Evidence of a successful invasion?
In the mid 1980's, the Australasian calanoid copepod Boeckella triarticulata was found in fish ponds of Northern Italy, representing the first record of this species for Europe. Its occurrence has not been reported for other Italian localities since 2005, when several specimens were found in the summer zooplankton of the Po River. It seems likely that B. triarticulata could be more widespread in the Po River valley than available distributional data suggest, considering both the scarcity of studies on the plankton of the main river channel and its adjacent water bodies as well as the high ecological plasticity of this centropagid species. The occurrence of this non-indigenous species in Italian waters may depend on the establishment of stable populations or on multiple reintroductions. Its threat as an invasive species is discussed on the basis of our preliminary results and from literature review. © 2006 The Author(s)
Community-Aware Content Diffusion: Embeddednes and Permeability
Viruses, opinions, ideas are different contents sharing a common trait: they need carriers embedded into a social context to spread. Modeling and approximating diffusive phenomena have always played an essential role in a varied range of applications from outbreak prevention to the analysis of meme and fake news. Classical approaches to such a task assume diffusion processes unfolding in a mean-field context, every actor being able to interact with all its peers. However, during the last decade, such an assumption has been progressively superseded by the availability of data modeling the real social network of individuals, thus producing a more reliable proxy for social interactions as spreading vehicles. In this work, following such a trend, we propose alternative ways of leveraging apriori knowledge on mesoscale network topology to design community-aware diffusion models with the aim of better approximate the spreading of content over complex and clustered social tissues
Molecular mechanism of Huntinton’s disease : a computational perspective
Huntington's Disease is one of the well-studied neurodegenerative conditions, a quite devastating and currently incurable one. It is a brain disorder that causes certain types of neurons to become damaged, causing various parts of the brain to deteriorate and lose their function. This results in uncontrolled movements, loss of intellectual capabilities and behavioural disturbances. Since the identification of the causative mutation, there have been many significant developments in understanding the cellular and molecular perturbations. This book, "Huntington's Disease - Core Concepts and Current Advances", was prepared to serve as a source of up-to-date information on a wide range of issues involved in Huntington's Disease. It will help the clinicians, health care providers, researchers, graduate students and life science readers to increase their understanding of the clinical correlates, genetic aspects, neuropathological findings, cellular and molecular events and potential therapeutic interventions involved in HD. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
