Roscigno-Monte Pruno: un insediamento indigeno fortificato

    No full text

Integrated SW for LEO Satellites End-To-End Performance

One of the objectives of the “Advanced Techniques for High Data Rate Links for Earth Exploration Satellites" study, ESA Contract n. 22455/09/NL/JK, is the development of a set of SW to allow the system designer computing the end-to-end performance of a transmission system in a LEO orbit using Variable Coding modulation (VCM) techniques. Under the assumption of an ideal transmission system not including non-linear effects, the SW allow customizing the main mission parameters according to a user defined scenario; the atmospheric contribution in terms of both attenuation, sky temperature throughout the whole ground station contact is computed, enabling a complete “statistical” knowledge of the Es/No curve and consequently an optimized VCM technique. In particular, the VCM technique described in this paper was improved with respect to first results obtained by TAS-I and already presented in [1]. [1] M. Recurrent retroperitoneal solitary fibrous tumor: a case report

    No full text
Background: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm described initially in visceral pleura but can occasionally involve other sites such as the urinary tract. Extrapleural localizations are often indolent but some malignant SFTs have been described. The treatment and the most important prognostic factor for SFT seem to be complete resection of the neoplasm. Case report: We report the 10-year history of a retroperitoneal SFT, which recurred twice after conservative management, and was eventually treated with en bloc resection of the mass, the bladder, and the prostate, and urinary diversion by ileal conduit. To our knowledge, this case has the longest follow-up in the literature. Conclusion: Extrapleural SFTs often have indolent but unpredictable behavior as they can recur even after many years. Some histologic features are associated with the malignancy of these tumors. Complete resection of the neoplasm is the most important prognostic factor. Patients with SFT should be considered for a very long follow-up after the surgery due to the risk of possible late recurrences

Essential oil variability in a collection of Ocimum basilicum L. (basil) cultivars.

Basil is an aromatic plant of great tradition in the Mediterranean area. Its economic importance is growing up determining an expansion of cultivation. This paper evaluated the morphological traits, the chemical profiles and antibacterial activity of 21 cultivars of basil belonging to “Genovese”, “Napoletano” and “Purple basil” types. The cultivars were characterized by different growth rate and morphological traits. The chemical composition of the oils analyzed by GC and GC-MS analysis, supported by the PCA analysis, underlined the strong influence of chemotype. It is noteworthy that estragole, never present in Genovese and purple basil types, occurs in Napoletano type. Anyway it was registered high presence of eugenol, methyl-eugenol and linalool in the majority of cultivars, belonging both to Genovese and Napoletano types. Of great interest resulted the composition of the purple basil “Opal”. All the samples tested exhibited similar antibiotic profiles whit moderate antibacterial activity. The results enhance the importance of determination of essential oil profile in the selection of cultivars characterized by diverse morphological traits and useful for different purposes

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
