RepoGraph : a novel semantic code exploration tool for Python repositories based on knowledge graphs and deep learning
This work presents RepoGraph, an integrated semantic code exploration web tool that combines information extraction, knowledge graphs, and deep learning models. It offers new capabilities for software developers (from academia and industry) to represent and query Python repositories. Unlike existing tools, RepoGraph not only provides a novel search interface powered by deep learning techniques but also exposes the underlying features and representations of repositories to users. Additionally, it offers several interactive visualizations. We also introduce RepoPyOnto, a new ontology that captures the features of Python code repositories and is used by RepoGraph for representing the captured knowledge. Finally, we successfully evaluate RepoGraph against several criteria, including function summarization performance, the correctness and relevance of search results, as well as the processing time for constructing graphs of various sizes
Building Lightweight Semantic Search Engines
Despite significant advances in methods for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data, surprisingly little attention has been devoted to developing practical methodologies that leverage state-of-the-art technologies to build domain-specific semantic search engines tailored to use cases where they could provide substantial benefits. This paper presents a methodology for developing these kinds of systems in a lightweight, modular, and flexible way with a particular focus on providing powerful search tools in domains where non-expert users encounter challenges in exploring the data repository at hand. Using an academic expertise finder tool as a case study, we demonstrate how this methodology allows us to leverage powerful off-the-shelf technology to enable the rapid, low-cost development of semantic search engines, while also affording developers with the necessary flexibility to embed user-centric design in their development in order to maximise uptake and application value
Mapping the repository landscape : harnessing similarity with RepoSim and RepoSnipy
The rapid growth of scientific software development has led to the emergence of large and complex codebases, making it challenging to search, find, and compare software repositories within the scientific research community. In this paper, we propose a solution by leveraging deep learning techniques to learn embeddings that capture semantic similarities among repositories. Our approach focuses on identifying repositories with similar semantics, even when their code fragments and documentation exhibit different syntax. To address this challenge, we introduce two complementary open-source tools: RepoSim and RepoSnipy. RepoSim is a command-line toolbox designed to represent repositories at both the source code and documentation levels. It utilizes the UniXcoder pre-trained language model, which has demonstrated remarkable performance in code-related understanding tasks. RepoSnipy is a web-based neural semantic search engine that utilizes the powerful capabilities of RepoSim and offers a user-friendly search interface, allowing researchers and practitioners to query public repositories hosted on GitHub and discover semantically similar repositories. RepoSim and RepoSnipy empower researchers, developers, and practitioners by facilitating the comparison and analysis of software repositories. They not only enable efficient collaboration and code reuse but also accelerate the development of scientific software
frances : cloud-based historical text mining with deep learning and parallel processing
frances is an advanced cloud-based text mining digital platform that leverages information extraction, knowledge graphs, natural language processing (NLP), deep learning, and parallel processing techniques. It has been specifically designed to unlock the full potential of historical digital textual collections, such as those from the National Library of Scotland, offering cloud-based capabilities and extended support for complex NLP analyses and data visualizations. frances enables realtime recurrent operational text mining and provides robust capabilities for temporal analysis, accompanied by automatic visualizations for easy result inspection. In this paper, we present the motivation behind the development of frances, emphasizing its innovative design and novel implementation aspects. We also outline future development directions. Additionally, we evaluate the platform through two comprehensive case studies in history and publishing history. Feedback from participants in these studies demonstrates that frances accelerates their work and facilitates rapid testing and dissemination of ideas

Producción de Esferoplastos a Partir de Esporangios del Mildeo Velloso (Peronospora sparsa Berkeley) de la Rosa Comercial
Para el presente estudio, se estandarizó una técnica para el cultivo bajo condiciones de laboratorio del parasito biotrofo (Peronospora sparsa Berkeley), en cámara húmeda; también realizo cultivo in vitro de la variedad de rosa Charlotte, con el fin de realizar los ensayos de infección sobre este material vegetal; se evaluaron mezclas enzimáticas y concentraciones de estas, para realizar la digestión de la pared celular de los esporangios de mildeo velloso y se encontró que al cabo de 5 horas se obtenían esferoplastos con la mezcla enzimática de Fluka (enzimas líticas de Trichoderma harzianum), 2 mg/ml y Driselasa 3 mg/ml, también se evaluaron diferentes buffers hasta conseguir aquel que garantizara el equilibrio osmótico de los esferoplastos durante su producción y manipulación en los ensayos de infección. Se encontró que el buffer KC (KCl 0.64M, CaCl2 0.2 M) mantuvo los esferoplastos osmóticamente estables durante un periodo de hasta 24 horas. Luego de 3 lavados y re-suspensión en buffer MTC-10 (1M manitol, 10mM tris, pH 7.5), con los esferoplastos obtenidos se realizó un seguimiento del proceso infectivo tanto en plántulas producidas in vitro, como sobre foliolos de campo de rosa variedad Charlotte, utilizando técnicas de microscopia óptica y se observó que los esferoplastos además de conservar su capacidad infectiva, esta parecía ser más agresiva que la observada típicamente en la infección con esporangios, por lo tanto, se realizaron pruebas comparativas infectando al mismo tiempo, los mismos tipos de tejidos tanto con esferoplastos como con esporangios y se pudo llegar a la conclusión que el desarrollo de la enfermedad del mildeo velloso de la rosa, es más rápido y expansivo en la infección con esferoplastos que con esporangios normales. Por último, se realizo un seguimiento del proceso infectivo en plantas completas de la variedad de rosa Charlotte y se observo la aparición de síntomas típicos de la enfermedad en la mitad del tiempo que normalmente se observa en plantas infectadas con mildeo velloso en camp

A interação entre a poesia de Arnaldo Antunes e a arte infantil de Rosa Moreau Antunes no livro As Coisas// The interaction between Arnaldo Antunes’ poetry and Rosa Moreau Antunes children’s art in the book As Coisas
Resumo: O presente artigo analisa o diálogo interartes entre a poesia e arte infantil no livro As Coisas (1992), criado pelo poeta paulistano Arnaldo Antunes e por sua filha Rosa Moreau Antunes, quando esta era ainda criança. Por meio da análise de alguns poemas e desenhos que integram essa obra, objetiva-se destacar que a interação entre as linguagens da palavra e da imagem constituem a força criativa da obra, formando um objeto literário e artístico singular. Nele, a leitura dos poemas e a observação das ilustrações tornam-se uma atividade agradável, divertida e educativa do ponto de vida reflexivo, por falar de assuntos cotidianos com uma sensibilidade filosófica, de uma forma aparentemente espontânea e acessível a pessoas de todas as idades. Tratar-se-á, para tanto, da questão da poesia voltada ao público infantil e jovem, e de como essa criação conjunta de Antunes e Rosa pode abarcar uma ampla faixa-etária de leitoras e leitores. A fundamentação teórico-crítica utilizada neste estudo encontra-se em especialistas da poesia e da arte infanto-juvenil, como Maria da Glória Bordini, José Paulo Paes, Edith Derdyk, Viktor Lowenfeld, entre outros, bem como em estudos acadêmicos acerca do referido livro de Arnaldo e Rosa Antunes, especialmente as dissertações de mestrado de Fabiana Carmen Carneiro (UFSC, 2011) e Jorge Normando dos Santos Filgueira (UFRN, 2010).Palavras-chave: Arnaldo Antunes; Rosa Moreau Antunes; poesia brasileira contemporânea; arte infantil; estudos interartes.Abstract: This article analyses the inter-art dialogue between poetry and children’s art in the book As Coisas (1992), created by the poet from São Paulo city Arnaldo Antunes and his daughter Rosa Moreau Antunes, when she was still a child. Through the analysis of some poems and drawings that are part of this work, the objective is to highlight that the interaction between the language of the word and the image constitutes the creative force of the work, forming a unique literary and artistic object. In it, reading the poems and observing the illustrations becomes a pleasant, fun and educational activity from a reflective point of view, by talking about every day matters with a philosophical sensitivity, apparently in a spontaneous and accessible way to people of all ages. It will therefore deal with the issue of the poetry aimed at children and young people, and how this joint creation by Antunes and Rosa can cover a wide age of readers. The theoretical-critical foundation used in this study is found in specialists in poetry and children’s art, such as Maria da Glória Bordini, José Paulo Paes, Edith Derdyk, Viktor Lowenfeld, among others, as well as in academic studies about the referred book by Arnaldo and Rosa Antunes, especially the master’s dissertations by Fabiana Carmen Carneiro (UFSC, 2011) and Jorge Normando dos Santos Filgueira (UFRN, 2010).Keywords: Arnaldo Antunes; Rosa Moreau Antunes; contemporary Brazilian poetry; children’s art; inter-artistic studies
