Optimisation of random DFB Raman laser amplifier
4 pags., 5 figs. .--17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), Budapest, Hungary, 5-9 July 2015We numerically optimise 2nd-order random DFB Raman laser amplifiers for transmission for the first time. Optical signal to noise ratio, nonlinear phase shift, signal power variation and the impact of the reflectivity of FBG are investigated in the links from 10 - 120 km.The authors wish to acknowledge the financial support of the EU through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual fellowship ‘CHAOS’ (No. 658982) for P. Raman cell optimisation for distributed amplification based transmission systems
Commercially available Raman fiber pumps display relatively high Relative Intensity Noise (RIN) that gets transferred to the output signal in systems relying on Raman distributed amplification. This has been shown to drastically hinder performance in Raman-based transmission systems [1], limiting the practically usable forward pump powers and setting constraints to the design of low signal power variation (SPV) bidirectional systems with optimised optical signal-to-noise ratios (OSNR) [2]. Recent works have highlighted a remarkable improvement in the resilience to RIN transfer of higher-order ultralong Raman fiber lasers (URFL) in a random Distributed Feedback (rDFB) laser amplifiers configurations with no fiber Bragg grating (FBG) at the front-end [3]. Moreover, we have shown [4] that a low-reflectivity front-end FBG can be more beneficial than no back-reflections at all, for enhancing pumping efficiency while still keeping RIN transfer under control. Here we extend previous analysis of the low-reflectivity URFL amplification scheme including experimental investigation of RIN transfer, OSNR and pump power requirements for different architectures. We perform a comparison with the rDFB approach and present a detailed optimisation of the main amplifier parameters for the effective design of Raman-based transmission systems.Peer Reviewe
Report on the Field Trip to Mexico
Mexico, name of a "project" open to the future rather than a country or a state (Adolfo Castanon) -. The following text is the brief report of interviews on the "trans-cultural Mexicanity," which were held with Mexican writers, critics and researchers in August 2002 in Mexico City. This report will be integrated into the book (in preparation) on the theme of Trans-Culture, Surrealism and Primitive Art
Unrepeatered 240-km 64-QAM transmission using distributed raman amplification over SMF fiber
We present a theoretical and experimental investigation of unrepeatered transmission over standard single-mode fiber (SMF-28) using several schemes of distributed Raman amplification, including first, second, and dual order. In order to further extend the transmission distance, we utilize advanced bidirectional higher-order ultra-long Raman fiber laser-based amplification, where we use fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) to reflect Stokes-shifted light from the secondary pumps. Our work demonstrates the possibility of transmission up to 240-km span length with a total span loss of 52.7 dB. Here, we use a 28-Gbaud signal using a 64-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation format. Our results highlight the contribution of nonlinear compensation using digital back propagation in a digital signal processor (DSP) code at the receiver
criativos do romance.
Sangre, valor y fortuna is the only play by dramatist Francisco Bances Candamo (1662-1704) which has never been published. It was not included in the Poesias comicas, the most complete collection of comedias by Bances Candamo, nor was it published in the form of a suelta, as happened with other plays by the same author. The only extant source for this comedia is one single manuscript kept as the Biblioteca Nacional, in Madrid. Its handwriting is seventeenth century, yet is is not the playwright's own.In addition to providing an extensive introduction that gives a useful biographical profile of Bances Candamo, as well as the historical background, I explore some of the most noteworthy aspects of the play, I offer my own edition of the text of Sangre, valor y fortuna, which is the first modern attempt to edit the manuscript and correct the copist's errors, thus presenting the play as close as possible to Bances Candamo's original intentions. Completing the edition is the critical apparatus, consisting of thorough explanatory footnotes and a bibliography--the most extensive about Bances Candamo up to date.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T14:17:26Z (GMT).
