    The C++ programming language

    No full text
    The new C++11 standard allows programmers to express ideas more clearly, simply, and directly, and to write faster, more efficient code. Bjarne Stroustrup, the designer and original implementer of C++, has updated his definitive reference and tutorial for everyone who uses the language and needs to understand its latest version. The C++ Programming Language, Fourth Edition, delivers meticulous, richly explained, and integrated coverage of the entire language—its facilities, abstraction mechanisms, standard libraries, and key design techniques. Throughout, Stroustrup presents concise, “pure C++11” examples, which have been carefully crafted to clarify both usage and program design. To promote deeper understanding, the author provides extensive cross-references, both within the book and to the ISO standard

    Functions of autoreception: Karl Ove Knausgård as author-critic and rewriter

    Karl Ove Knausgård made his entry into the literary field as a critic in the 1990s, and he has since 1998 made his mark as a novelist and essayist. The six-volume autobiographical work Min kamp (2009-2011) is in essence about what it means for him to be an author. This thesis investigates Knausgård’s strategies as a critic, essayist, and as the author of Min kamp to position himself and his poetics within the literary field and a literary tradition. Specifically, it examines the functions of autoreception, i.e. self-criticism, implicit in Knausgård’s role as an author-critic, an author who writes literary criticism, and as a rewriter, an author who rewrites his own texts and the context and poetic intentions of his previous texts. Thus, this thesis aims to answer the question what are the functions of criticism and of rewriting for Karl Ove Knausgård as an author? Part I outlines a new framework of autoreception devised for examining the functions of criticism and rewriting. The proposed common denominator is that both function to establish, position, and validate an author-image. Ultimately, a new understanding of the narration in Min kamp as autoreceptive is offered. Part II examines a largely unexplored area of Knausgård’s work, namely the strategies of Knausgård as a critic prior to publishing his first novel, and how Knausgård rewrites himself during this period in Min kamp. Part III focuses on Knausgård’s rewriting of the period between writing his second novel and up until he begins writing Min kamp. It investigates the strategic functions of the narrative structure, the functions of the essayistic and critical passages, and the functions of the distance and unity between past and present author-images that Knausgård creates in his rewriting. This thesis thus aims to contribute to the scholarship regarding Karl Ove Knausgård by conducting an author-study that examines the relationship between criticism and poetics. In addition, it aims to contribute to a broader field of research by offering a theoretical and methodological framework of autoreception, which works across the boundaries of critical, essayistic, and literary texts

    Museet for menneskets naturhistorie og naturens kulturhistorie

    AbstractThe point of departure is the reopening of Musée de l’Homme in Paris in October 2015, after seven years of closure and a total renovation of the interior of the building. The museum has started anew with strongly reduced and partly new collections, with a revised thematic profile, a new collecting programme and new scenography. It has finally become what its founding fathers in the 1930s had wanted it to be – and even something more, that is a museum of mankind’s natural history and nature’s cultural history. The text traces briefly the museum’s history since its reorganization and reorientation in the 1930’s. It was established during a radical leftist political period in France, as a democratic, anti-fascist and anti-racist institution stressing pluridisciplinarity and the unity of mankind. In many ways it was «the cradle» of French social anthropology. On the other hand, it supported French colonialism and the belief in a French civilizing mission. After the war the museum, which was an annex to the National Museum of Natural History, enjoyed a short period of popularity and grandeur as a scholarly institution. But it soon reverted to territorial thinking, compartmentalization and internal quarrels and suffered from a strict supervision from the natural history museum. Its renown faded quickly and just after 2000 it was forced to split and alienate the larger part of its collec-tions and close down – to resuscitate in 2015 as a very promising institution of research and public outreach

    Norsk kulturhistorie i kontekst – et bidrag til genealogien

    The article endeavours to give a broad historiographical overview of cultural history in Norway and to some extent in Scandinavia, covering a century from ca. 1880. The point of departure is the jungle of variants of ‘new cultural history’ and the fact that the roots of Scandinavian cultural history deviate considerably from other national traditions. The text briefly reviews the different concepts of culture as a background and then discusses the work of three Scandinavian pioneers who all published around 1880 (Troels Troels-Lund, August Strindberg and Yngvar Nielsen). Next is presented the local history move-ment with its academic elite researchers and its broad grass-root movement, as well as the open-air museum ‘paradigm’. The focus then shifts to the rich written literature of cultural history and the voluminous book series published during the century, some of them with a national Norwegian scope, some with a Nordic scope, and one with a global scope. Finally the text presents brief outlines of the two foremost cultural history disciplines (in addition to history and art history), namely ethnology and folklore. In all these fields and across these arenas of cultural history, with their porous frontiers and overlapping approaches, the Norwegian tradition appears as closely knit to themes like popular tradi-tions and beliefs, customs and usage, material culture, everyday life and work. It also appears that the roots of cultural history blend with national and local identity projects and a political nationalism

    MuCEM - fra tradisjonelt folkemuseum til dialoginstitusjon. Et nytt nasjonalmuseum i Frankrike

    En ny brikke er på plass i den museumsthrilleren som har pågått i Frankrike det siste tiåret, med nedlegginger, fusjoner og nyetableringer av nasjonalmuseene. I juni 2013 åpnet Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (MuCEM) i Marseille – museet for Europas og middelhavsregionens kulturer. Museet ligger flott til på byens beste tomt, på moloen ved innløpet til den gamle havnen. Hovedbygningen er et modernistisk bygg i glass og betong, tegnet av Rudi Ricciotti. En elegant gangbro binder det sammen med det gamle havnefortet, et vernet kulturminne som er del av museet og byr på mindre utstillingslokaler og 15 mål med trivelige utearealer, restauranter og kafeer. Magasiner og restaureringsatelier har fått et nybygg et annet sted i byen. Med andre ord et nytt milliardprosjekt på kulturfronten – i et land i full økonomisk krise. Og dertil første gang et nasjonalmuseum flyttes ut fra Paris

    Louvre, Islam og det trehodete trollet. Om makt og politikk, sekularisme og annet i franske museer

    Louvre, Islam and the Three-headed Troll. On Power and Politics, secularism and more in French Museums.The reception of French museum exhibitions varies significantly between the French and the non-French public, especially the Anglo-American. This was clearly demonstrated when the Branly museum â an ââ¬Ëanthropological art museumââ¬â¢ â was inaugurated in 2006. The same phenomenon can be observed in the Grand Louvre â Franceââ¬â¢s foremost museum of fine arts. This springââ¬â¢s exhibition on German art in Louvre was considered a scandal from a German point of view. The main case study, however, is Louvreââ¬â¢s new museum of Islamic art, which was inaugurated in 2012. The reasons are threefold: French republican universalism, which claims a French-western hegemony in matters of aesthetics; French secularism (laïcité), which forbids anything religious in public institutions; and French anti-communautarisme, which fights communities based on ethnicity within the Republic. These three mechanisms â or ideologies â steer museum and exhibition practices in a way that is difficult to grasp for a foreigner. And they make the museum a place where power is exerted in a more intricate way than other Western observers are used to, and more efficiently than the public authoritiesââ¬â¢ use of museums to political ends
