Power Efficiency of the Gyroscopic-Pendulum Wave Energy Converter
The oceans, which cover nearly 70% of the earth’s surface, can be considered as an inexhaustible energy source for renewable electricity due to its size and predictability. One way to capture ocean energy is by harnessing the energy produced by waves at sea, by means of devices called wave energy converters (WECs).Delft University of Technology is developing a new floating WEC concept called the ”gyroscopic-pendulum”. This concept is a modification of the so called ”classical vertical axis pendulum”, which is capable of producing mechanical power harvested from the rotations of the pendulum around the vertical axis. The new concept is proposed by adding a flywheel with the aim to enhance the rotations of the pendulum about the vertical axis. The enhancement comes from gyroscopic precession which is created due to a change in the angular moment of the spinning flywheel caused by the torque originating from the weight of the pendulum. This thesis starts with a general introduction about wave power followed by the mathematical and numerical model of the gyroscopic-pendulum. Numerical simulations are performed in which the gyroscopic-pendulum and the classical pendulum are both imposed with the same harmonic roll motion, while the gyroscopic-pendulum system also receives some power input to rotate the disk. The main objective is to find out in which ranges of amplitude and frequency of imposed motions, the gyroscopic-pendulum results in an improvement of the power efficiency compared to the classical vertical axis pendulum. The results obtained from tests performed in the simulated conditions, shows us that the gyroscopic-pendulum has a significantly higher efficiency compared to the classical vertical axis pendulum when the frequency of the imposed roll motion is in the range of 1.4 to 1.75 rad/s and the amplitude is in the range of 0.6 to 0.95 푚

The relationship between the determination of hadith quality and the conscious personality of the narrator has been massive since the era of the ṣaḥābah and tabi’īn. This principle continued until the third century AH, when the ulūm al-ḥadīṡ began to be conceptualized. Nevertheless, many scholars have been detected to have abandoned the sanad in their narrations, especially in the tradition of sufism. Through the science of jarḥ wa ta'dīl, the Sufi group was widely criticized by hadith scholars. They were considered not to meet the requirements of avoiding immorality, due to their casual attitude in narration and their willingness to use hadiths of unclear quality as a basis for action. However, several prominent hadith scholars did the same thing, such as Sa'īd Ibn al-Musayyib, al-Sya'bī, Ibrāhīm al-Nakha'ī, and al-Bukhāri in his book, Ṣahīh al-Bukhāri. Interestingly, they are still considered to be credible figures. Based on this phenomenon, several fundamental questions are interesting to study; first, how does the Sufi mind acquire knowledge? And second, how significant is narration in shaping and determining the justice of the narrator? These two questions serve as the initial foundation and limitation of the research conducted by the author. In the analysis, the author uses a historical approach aided by the theory of Philosophy of Science and the Trilogy of Abid al-Jabiri's Epistemology. The results found that narration without sanad cannot be entirely considered to reduce someone's credibility, due to the differences in views regarding the form of itself. Therefore, a new concept emerged in determining 'adālah, which combines knowledge and action as an alternative to determining credibility. This concept is called high piety, where its construction is based on the attitude of memorizing the Qur'an, writing hadith, acting based on the Prophet's sunnah, and having a special position (wali) which is identified through the attributes of jarḥ wa ta'dīl. Thus, those considered 'adil will not deviate from the rules of shari'a, which is supported by good attitudes and characteristics, such as ibādah, mu'āmalah, and closeness to Allah SWT
Codicology and Textology of "Zolal Al-Safa Fi Ahwal Al-Mustafa" by Kartan (Ancient source in the Prophetic tradition)
Zolal al-Safa fi Ahwal al-Mustafa is one of the historical-literary sources that was written between 697 and 702 AH by one of the writers of that time named Abu al-Fatah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abu Bakr al-Kartani. Not much information is available about him except in one or two sources. This book is inspired by the historical book Al-Muntazim Fi Tarikh Al-Umam wa Al-Muluk Ibn Jozi and was written at the request of one of the rulers of Ishaq Vand Gilan family named Abu Nasr Dobaj Ibn Filshah. The book is in fact the historical year before and after the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) until the time of his death and the events of the time of Prophecy. the author is also familiar with the poems of other poets such as Anwari, Massoud Salman, Saadi, Nezami, Saber Tirmidhi, Zahir Faryabi, Rumi's lyric poems, and Sanai. Examining the verses in the text can be understood.Excessive use of Quranic verses during the text as well as the use of Persian and Arabic poems among the contents and in harmony with the text, although in the text of the regular book we also see verses from the Quran and poems by different poets, are prominent features of this book. However, the main difference between the book and contemporary sources before it is the use of rhyme as the main feature of style as well as poetic images
Interfacial properties of the hexane + carbon dioxide + water system in the presence of hydrophilic silica
Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to study the interfacial behavior of the CO2 + H2O and hexane + CO2 + H2O systems in the presence of hydrophilic silica at geological conditions. Simulation results for the CO2 + H2O and hexane + CO2 + H2O systems are in reasonable agreement with the theoretical predictions based on the density functional theory. In general, the interfacial tension (IFT) of the CO2 + H2O system exponentially (linearly) decreased with increasing pressure (temperature). The IFTs of the hexane + CO2 + H2O (two-phase) system decreased with the increasing mole fraction of CO2 in the hexane/CO2-rich phase x(CO2). Here, the negative surface excesses of hexane lead to a general increase in the IFTs with increasing pressure. The effect of pressure on these IFTs decreased with increasing x(CO2) due to the positive surface excesses of carbon dioxide. The simulated water contact angles of the CO2 + H2O + silica system fall in the range from 43.8 degrees to 76.0 degrees , which is in reasonable agreement with the experimental results. These contact angles increased with pressure and decreased with temperature. Here, the adhesion tensions are influenced by the variations in fluid-fluid IFT and contact angle. The simulated water contact angles of the hexane + H2O + silica system fall in the range from 58.0 degrees to 77.0 degrees and are not much affected by the addition of CO2. These contact angles increased with pressure, and the pressure effect was less pronounced at lower temperatures. Here, the adhesion tensions are mostly influenced by variations in the fluid-fluid IFTs. In all studied cases, CO2 molecules could penetrate into the interfacial region between the water droplet and the silica surface. (c) 2022 Author(s). Reexamining the Credibility of the Joseph Schacht Concept of Sanad Hadith: Menguji Kembali Kredibilitas Konsep Joseph Schacht terhadap Sanad Hadis
Joseph Schacht, through the book The Muhammadan Jurisprudence, raises a criticism of sanad which considers that hadith did not start from the Prophet, but from tabi\u27in. It\u27s just that Schacht\u27s concept is considered weak because he is inconsistent and forgets a lot of data and important aspects in the study of hadith. This article appears as the author\u27s attempt to explain the concepts promoted by Schacht and also some of the problems carried out by Schacht. With the help of the descriptive-analytical method combined with a comparison of experts\u27 arguments as a medium of analysis, it can be seen how gaps emerge in Schacht\u27s attitude. The results of the analysis explain that the Schacht controversy is related to; first, Schacht\u27s rejection of the hadith which is not in line with the data of the companions which are part of the hadith; secondly, the theory built by Schacht can be said to be very weak, because much of the data found refutes Schacht\u27s hypothesis; third, there is subjectivity in the use of data and analysis results; and fourth, Schacht, who is known as an expert in Islamic law, should study hadith, but he does not believe that hadith comes from the Prophet
A Lexical Study of Diwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani
IntroductionDiwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani demands special attention and research from various perspectives, due to its antiquity as well as the remarkable mastery of its author in poetic devices. However, it has not yet received serious examination in literary studies, evidently because there has been no printed version available. Among its many remarkable features is the inclusion of some rare words that cannot be found in other Persian manuscripts, or have not been listed in common Persian dictionaries, or if listed, are presented with no reliable evidence. The authors of this article aim to investigate these unexplored words. Literature ReviewIn 1934, a facsimile edition of Diwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani was published in London by Edward Edwards. This collection has not been extensively studied in literary and linguistic research, since there has not been any letterpress printed edition of it, and even the facsimile version had not been easily accessible until very recently. Published articles about Zulfaqar Sharwani include an entry under his name in the Encyclopedia of the World of Islam (Moravveji, 2019) and “Majd-i Hamgar’s Name in Diwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani” (Safari Aqqaleh, 2008). In the article “Thematization with Some Jewels in the Poetry of Azerbaijani Style” (Radfar and Esmaeili Tazekandi, 2011), the poetry of Zulfaqar Sharwani is examined from this thematic perspective. Additionally, Idgah Torghabei references some verses of Zulfaqar Sharwani in some of his works, such as the article “Pronunciation of Several Words in the Shahnameh” (2011). MethodologyThis article utilized library research methods. Having examined Diwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani, words that were either absent or listed without evidence in the Dehkhoda Dictionary were identified and subsequently searched in available text corpora such as the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, Ganjoor and Noormagz websites, and Noor Digital Library to find reliable explanations for their meanings. DiscussionThe Diwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani is estimated to contain slightly more than ten thousand couplets. Most of Zulfaqar's poetry is in the form of qasida, demonstrating the author’s mastery of composition; there are also numerous quatrains and ghazals in his collection. Zulfaqar extensively employs poetic imagery constructed with musical terms and concepts, indicating that he had a deeper understanding of music than a typical superficial acquaintance. Furthermore, the names of Iranian kings and pahlevans (champions) frequently appear throughout the work. Moreover, astronomical and astrological terminology plays a significant role in the poet’s imagery, suggesting his profound knowledge of these fields and possible education during his youth. His Diwan and poems also reveal the substantial influence of ancient pharmacology and medicine. Furthermore, Zulfaqar Sharwani also refers to numerous poets and writers preceding him such as Anwari, Azraqi, Am’aq, Sabir Termedhi, Onsori, Al-Ma’arri, Al-Farazdaq, Athir, and Falaki, and also mentions the works of people like Ibn Sina. He also speaks of Ferdowsi with great respect, acknowledging his influence on himself and considering him a mentor, believing Ferdowsi’s soul to be resting in eternal peace. In Diwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani, we encounter both simple and complex words that are not found in other texts and are not recorded in dictionaries. A number of these words may be considered dialectal variants which were not used in formal Persian; however, some of these words may have entered the Diwan due to the influence of the scribe’s dialect rather than the poet’s. A few examples of these rare words include âxora (آخُره), angâm (انگام), ēlvâra (ایلواره), târâ (تارا), and dastvenǰan (دستونجن). ConclusionDiwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani, an eloquent poet of the seventh century, is a comprehensive collection that, in addition to its literary and historical values, contains many rare and unique words. This article lists some of these words, emphasizing the necessity for Diwan-e Zulfaqar Sharwani to be printed with a critical and scholarly perspective, serving as a source of vocabulary for literary corpora. AcknowledgmentsThe authors express their utmost gratitude to Professor Ali Ashraf Sadeghi and other honorable members and officials at the Academy of Persian Language and Literature for providing access to most of the resources used in this article, without which this research could not have been possible
