    Maturity and fecundity of Champsocephalus gunnari, Chaenocephalus aceratus and Pseudochaenichthys georgianus in South Georgia and Shag Rocks Islands

    No full text
    The reproductive biology of three species of icefishes (family Channicthyidae), Champsocephalus gunnari, Pseudochaenichthys georgianus and Chaenocephalus aceratus in South Georgia and Shag Rocks Islands was studied by means of a histological analysis. Parental care, a widespread behaviour among icefishes such as C. aceratus, is not observed in C. gunnari, which has a broadcast spawning strategy. There were large differences in total fecundity mainly due to the different sizes reached by each species (total fecundity range was 2,500 - 21,300 hydrated oocytes). Nevertheless, when comparing relative fecundity values, the average results were, in general, similar for P. georgianus and C. aceratus (6 - 9 hydrated oocytes per female gram). However, relative fecundity estimated for C. gunnari was 10 - 37 hydrated oocytes per ovary-free female gram. The difference may be a consequence of the smaller oocyte size of the species as compared to other icefishes. The small diameter of hydrated oocytes was also associated with low values of dry weight. The high relative fecundity recorded for C. gunnnari may compensate, in part, for a broadcast spawning strategy.Fil: Militelli, Maria Ines. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas.     Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz y la lirica de tipo tradicional: Los villancicos. (Spanish text);

    No full text
    El villancico, breve composicion lirica de tema sacro y metrica variable, es una de las formas poeticas mas representativas de la poesia tradicional. Dicho tipo de composicion, de origen popular, alcanza su mayor cultivo durante el siglo XVII con la revaloracion de las formas populares realizada por los poetas cultos del Barroco. Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz es una de las maximas exponentes de este subgenero lirico. Compone doce series completas de villancicos para maitines por encargo de las catedrales de Mexico, Puebla y Oaxaca.Estudiamos el desarrollo y evolucion de los diversos ciclos tematicos tratados por Sor Juana en sus villancicos, observando como la autora logra fundir en un mismo plano poetico los elementos cultos del gusto cortesano con aquellos de verdadera raiz popular, transformando asi los canones prescritos tanto por la tradicion lirica como por la religiosa. Examinamos el modo en que la monja modifica, yuxtapone y recrea los elementos formales, poeticos y linguisticos para crear un espacio semantico novedoso que fluctua entre el hermetismo intimista, el dogmatismo didactico, la restitucion publica y la afirmacion social.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T12:19:13Z (GMT). Postpartum ovarian activity of Santa Ines lactating ewes fed diets containing soybean hulls as a replacement for coastcross (Cynodon sp.) hay

    No full text
    The Santa Ines, a Brazilian hair sheep, has a non-seasonal breeding activity. Data regarding the duration of the postpartum anestrous period in Santa Ines lactating ewes is lacking and the objective of this trial was to determine the effects of replacing neutral detergent fibre (NDF) provided by coastcross (Cynodon sp.) hay with NDF contained in soybean hulls (SH) on the postpartum ovarian activity-as measured by the serum progesterone (P(4)) concentration. Fifty-six lactating ewes (body weight 56.1 +/- 6.8 kg) were individually penned and used in a randomized complete block design with 14 blocks and four treatments. The SH NDF replaced 33 (SH33), 67 (SH67), or 100% (SH100) of the NDF contributed by coastcross hay in the control diet (SHO). This resulted in a SH inclusion at rates of 0, 25, 54, and 85% of the dietary dry matter (DM). Blood samples were collected twice weekly from the 14th to 84th day postpartum and the serum P(4) concentrations determined by radioimmunoassay (RIA). It was estimated that the 1st postpartum ovulation occurred 6 days before the date that a serum P(4) >= 1 ng/ml concentration was first recorded. The mean body condition score (BCS; 0-5 scale) was 3.0 +/- 0.19 on day 14 postpartum and the mean BCS at day 56 postpartum increased linearly (P<0.01) with the inclusion levels of SH (3.09, 3.24, 3.34, and 3.36, respectively). Treatments did not differ significantly in the induction of postpartum days to the resumption of ovarian luteal activity (34.1 +/- 15.3 days postpartum). On days 25, 50, and 75 postpartum 36.80, and 100% of the ewes had resumed ovarian activity, respectively. Nonesterified fatty acid concentration decreased quadratically (P<0.05) with the SH inclusion, with values of 0.323, 0.244, 0.204, and 0.216 mequiv./l for the SHO, SH33, SH67, and SH100 treatments being recorded, respectively. Replacement of the NDF provided by coastcross hay with the NDF from the SH did not influence the duration of the postpartum anestrous period in Santa Ines lactating ewes. Considering a 150-day gestation period and the 34 days postpartum anestrous demonstrated in the present study, the current production system of a lambing interval of 8 months (3 lambing events in 2 years) may not be optimizing the production potential and a system in which the lambing interval is shortened by at least 1 month may be feasible. The production of biofuels has caused an increase in the prices of agricultural commodities. Thus, the ecological footprint, social inclusion and profitability of production systems have encouraged the use of agro-industrial products as an alternative in ruminant feeds. Objective: To evaluate carcass yields, non-carcass components, and the economic viability of including licuri oil in diet of Santa Ines ewes. Methods: A total of 32 Santa Ines ewes (multiparous, non-lactating, 2?4 years old, and 36.7±0.87 kg of body weight?BW) were allotted to a randomized block design with four treatments (diets containing 0, 2, 4 or 5% licuri oil) with eight replicates per treatment, and confined for 77 days. Results: The incremental inclusion of licuri oil promoted a quadratic response on slaughter BW, carcass and true yields, chest widths, heart fat, pancreas, omental fat, and ribeye area (p<0.05). Carcass, heart and loin weight, shank yield, fat thickness and loin fat were reduced (p<0.05); while cooling losses, left half-carcass weight, saw blade yield, and proportion of meat in the loin increased (p<0.05) with increasing dietary levels of licuri oil. The control diet resulted in the best gross revenue (USD609.39);however,therewasaloss(USD609.39); however, there was a loss (USD50.96) regarding economic performance indicators. Conclusion: The use of up to 2% licuri oil in the diet increased carcass yield of discard ewes

    No full text
    The aim of the study was to compare the use of open ovariectomy, to the video-assisted laparoscopic approach or total laparoscopic ovariectomy in Santa Ines ewes. Surgical time and body weight gain/loss were recorded and post-surgical pain assessed using a behavioral scale. Laparotomy involved a longer surgical time (75 +/- 29.5 min), than the video-assisted (37.5 +/- 13.04 min; p < 0.05) or total laparoscopic approach (27.5 +/- 2.89; p < 0.01). Behavioral pain recorded score was higher for the laparotomy ovariectomy (5.6 +/- 0.5), compared to the video-assisted (0.3 +/- 0.5) and laparoscopic approaches (0.3 +/- 0.5) (p < 0.0001). No significant differences were recorded regarding body weight gain/loss during the first 30 days post-surgery, between the techniques. The video-assisted laparoscopic and total laparoscopic techniques of ovariectomy showed a tendency to have more advantages than the use of laparotomy as such. Less surgical trauma, a shorter surgical time, minimal post-surgical stress and better surgical recovery being highlighted as the main advantages of the endoscopic approaches in sheep. This conclusion paper aims to a comparative study from videos made by the National Institute of Education of the Deaf (INES), on the classics of children?s literature, in order to realize the sound and visual elements which compose the story and, this way, have deaf kids access to them in the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS). Going from a qualitative perspective, we have selected and analyzed videos made by this institute from 2010 to 2016. We have also found that INES is concerned on telling stories to a childish public. On all this video analysis process, we have found that: a) their quality on the videos has been increased as the years went by, for they have been improved through most-suitable elements to children?s imagination, like cartoons; b) INES?s contents have been made even more deitailed on the illustrations; c) the characters are expressing themselves better; d) the scenarios have also been adapated and improved. Lastly, we emphasize that this videos production had prepared a way for other productions to be possible and, so, for the deaf ones to have access to these stories in the signal language, either the childish literature classics and many other stories avaiable in the world wide web, supporting parents and teachers on storytelling to deaf children.O presente trabalho de conclus?o de curso tem como objetivo, fazer um estudo comparativo dos v?deos produzidos pelo Instituto Nacional de Educa??o de Surdos (INES), sobre os cl?ssicos da literatura infantil, a fim de perceber os elementos visuais que comp?em as hist?rias e possibilitam que as crian?as surdas tenham acesso a elas na L?ngua Brasileira de Sinais (LIBRAS). A partir de uma perspectiva qualitativa, selecionamos e analisamos os v?deos produzidos pelo INES no per?odo de 2010 a 2016. Com essa pesquisa podemos concluir que o INES ? um instituto preocupado com a conta??o de hist?rias para o p?blico infantil. A partir de todo o processo de an?lise dos v?deos foi poss?vel perceber que: a) a qualidade de suas publica??es vem melhorando ao longo dos anos, incorporando elementos mais adequados ao imagin?rio infantil, como o desenho animado; b) as produ??es do INES passaram a ser mais complexas na elabora??o das ilustra??es; c) os personagens passaram a expressar-se melhor; d) os cen?rios tamb?m foram adaptados e melhorados. Por fim ressaltamos que a produ??o desses v?deos abriu caminhos para que outras produ??es fossem poss?veis e para que os surdos tivessem acesso ?s hist?rias na L?ngua de Sinais, tanto aos cl?ssicos da literatura infantil, quanto a outras hist?rias dispon?veis na rede mundial de computadores, subsidiando pais e professores no exerc?cio de contar hist?rias para crian?as surdas

    Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Psicologia.Esse trabalho discute a problemática dos surdos pré-lingüísticos com diagnóstico de surdez profunda, filhos de pais ouvintes, que tiveram contato com a comunidade surda e com a língua de sinais a partir da adolescência. Justificamos o desenvolvimento de um estudo aprofundado sobre esse tema pelo fato de que estes surdos se encontram imersos em uma comunidade lingüística diferente da sua, onde não há um ambiente lingüístico que lhes possibilite a apreensão de sua língua natural a língua de sinais, e onde estão impossibilitados de apreender a língua de seus pais a língua oral. Frente a essa realidade temos como objetivo investigar como esses surdos internalizam a cultura familiar e de que maneira essa internalização colabora para a sua subjetividade. O método utilizado é o qualitativo, na forma de estudo de caso analítico-descritivo a partir de três casos que foram analisados pela análise do discurso e interpretados pela psicanálise

    Skipped spawning in the Patagonian stock of Argentine Hake (Merluccius hubbsi)

    No full text
    We analyzed the macroscopic and histological maturity data of Argentine hake (Merluccius hubbsi) collected off Patagonia in the spawning area of the Patagonian stock of this species between 2005 and 2014 to determine the frequency of skipped spawning. This study revealed that the only evidence of skipped spawning observed for Argentine hake was the resting stage. Analysis of 58,891 adult females of Argentine hake sampled during their reproductive peak indicates that, annually, between 6% and 22% of them had skipped spawning. These females were located mostly in the periphery of the spawning area, in deeper (>90 m) and colder waters (7–8°C). Individuals that had skipped spawning had a more intense feeding activity and a better nutritional condition (K=0.68–0.75) than females collected in the main spawning area according to the Fulton’s condition index. In contrast, postspawning females showed the poorest condition (K=0.62–0.68) because of the energy cost involved with reproduction. Females that had skipped spawning were mostly young individuals with a modal age of 3 years and a modal size of 38 cm TL. These results indicate that a significant proportion of females that had completed their first annual spawning could skip the next spawning event and stay on the periphery of the reproductive area to feed.Fil: Macchi, Gustavo Javier. No full text
    O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as propriedades de dois compósitos convencionais [Charisma Diamond (CD) e Filtek Z250XT (FZ250XT)] e dois do tipo Bulk Fill [Aura Bulk Fill, (ABF) e Filtek Bulk Fill (FBF)] em função da profundidade de polimerização e modo de obtenção (O) dos espécimes submetidos ou não a tratamento térmico (TT, 170?C x 10 min)) e um protocolo de envelhecimento acelerado (C, 150000 ciclos, 14,7 N). Para a obtenção dos corpos de prova em forma de disco (10 mm diâmetro e 1 mm espessura) utilizou-se dois tipos de molde de poliéster (segmentado e não segmentado). Foram fotoativados (1000 mW/cm2 X 20 s) nas espessuras de 2 mm (convencionais) e 5 mm (Bulk Fill.). As propriedades avaliadas foram: Grau de conversão (GC), dureza (KHN) e resistência à flexão biaxial (RFB). A análise estatística do GC % para as resinas convencionais mostrou diferença no fator Condição (imediato 58,8 %, sem TT 24h 66,3 %, com TT 83,8 %), na interação Marca X Tratamento Térmico a CD com TT (88,1 %) > FZ250XT (79,6 %) mas nas outras condições foi semelhante. Quanto às resinas do tipo Bulk, a FBF (73,5 %) > ABF (71,8 %), o GC em função da profundidade diminuiu, os primeiros dois milímetros foram semelhantes 1 mm (77,0 %), 2 mm (77,4 %) > 3 mm ( 72,1 %) e 4 mm (70,8 %), semelhantes entre si, e o 5 mm obteve o menor GC (66,2 %). Comparado o 5 mm, a ABF (61,1 %) CD (50,8 KHN) e resinas do tipo Bulk Fill FBF (47,2 KHN) > ABF (33,1 KHN); em função da Forma de Obtenção, resinas convencionais Bloco-topo (61,7 KHN) Fatia-base (48,2 KHN), e as resinas do tipo Bulk Fill Bloco-topo (44,5 KHN) Fatia-base (29,9 KHN); e em função do Tratamento Térmico, resinas convencionais com TT (54,15 KHN) > sem TT (53,23 KHN) e resinas do tipo Bulk Fill com TT (44,4 KHN) > sem TT (35,9 KHN). Quanto à RFB, o fator Forma de Obtenção apresentou diferenças significativas para as quatro resinas; o Tratamento térmico aumentou à RFB nas 4 resinas estudadas, a porcentagem de aumento foi de 16,1 % para a resina CD, de 4,7 % para a FZ250XT, de 14,1 % para a ABF e de 28,3 % para a FBF. Com base nos resultados obtidos, pode-se concluir que: maior grau de conversão conduziu à maior resistência à flexão; O tratamento térmico conduziu a um aumento de todas as propriedades estudadas. A ciclagem mecânica, utilizada como protocolo de envelhecimento, permitiu a diferenciação dos materiais.The aim of this study was to evaluate the properties of two conventional composites [Charisma Diamond (CD) e Filtek Z250XT (FZ250XT)] and two bulk fill composites Fill [Aura Bulk Fill, (ABF) e Filtek Bulk Fill (FBF)] regarding the depth of polymerization and the mode of acquisition (O) of the specimens which were submitted or not submitted to heat treatment (HT, 170 ?C x 10 min) and a protocol of accelerated aging (C, 150,000 cycles, 14.7 N). For the acquisition of the samples in disc format (10 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness) two different polyester molds were used (segmented and non-segmented). The samples were light cured in the thickness of 2 mm (conventional composites) and 5 mm (Bulk Fill composites). The properties evaluated were degree of conversion (DC %), hardness (KHN) and biaxial flexural strength (BFS). Statistical analyses of the DC % for the conventional composites showed differences for the factors Condition (immediate 58.8 % 3 mm (72.1 %) = 4 mm (70.8 %), and the 5 mm obtained the lowest DC % (66.2 %). Comparing the 5 mm level among brands, ABF (61.1 %) was lower than FBF (71.4 %). For the factor Condition the DC % increases in 24h (70.2 %) compared to immediate (61.7 %) and with the HT increases even more (86.2 %). With the HT FBF obtained the highest increase (88.4 %), ABF (84.1 %), but both without HT present no statistically significant difference: ABF (69.9 %), FBF (70.5 %). The KHN values for both the conventional composites and the bulk fill ones varied based on the brand; conventional composites: FZ250XT (64,8 KHN) > CD (50.8 KHN) and Bulk Fill resins: FBF (47,2 KHN) > ABF (33,1 KHN); for the mode of acquisition, conventional resins block-top (61.7 KHN) lower than slice-top (67.3KHN), block-base (54.0 KHN) higher than slice-base (48.2 KHN); the bulk fill resins presented the results block-top (44.5 KHN) lower than slice-top (48.1 KHN), block-base (38.0 KHN) higher than slice-base (29.9 KHN); and regarding the HT, conventional resins with HT (54.15 KHN) higher than no HT (53.23 KHN) and bulk fill resins with HT (44.4 KHN) higher than without HT (35.9 KHN). Regarding BFS the factor mean of acquisition presented statistically significant differences for the 4 composites; heat treatment increased the BFS for all resins tested. 16.1 % was the percentage of increase for the CD resin, 4.7 % for FZ250XT, 14.1 % for ABF and 28.3 % for FBF. Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that: the higher conversion rate led to higher flexural strength resistance; the heat treatment led to an increase of all properties evaluated. Mechanical cycling, used as aging protocol, permitted the differentiation of materials
