They came first to Central Falls, Rhode Island. They were the third Colombian family that came to Central Falls. Aliz\u27s father, Teresa\u27s husband, named Latino Rodríguez, was a textiles mechanic, and he was recruited to come to Rhode Island to work in the textile industry. In their oral history they tell the story of how and why they came to the United States. They talk about life in Rhode Island and how the family made their way to Greenville, SC, in 1975. They detail how their entire family came to work in the textile industry in Greenville. They talk about the hard work, the many hours, the relationships with their American coworkers, and their life at home. Aliz Henao and Teresa speak about the social life in Greenville with other Colombians, the Knights of Columbus, dances, and the close connections. Estrutura de cooperação para redes interorganizacionais do turismo: um estudo no município de Itajaí-SC

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Produção.O objetivo geral deste estudo foi propor uma estrutura de cooperação, voltada às redes interorganizacionais do turismo a partir da literatura e da avaliação da relação interorganizacional de uma localidade inserida no Programa de Regionalização do Turismo. Pesquisou-se a rede interorganizacional do turismo do município de Itajaí/SC, integrante da Região Turística Costa Verde & Mar. Para elaboração da estrutura de cooperação, levou-se em consideração as abordagens consultadas ao longo da revisão da literatura. A pesquisa foi realizada em duas fases, sendo a primeira com abordagem qualitativa do tipo exploratória e a segunda com abordagem quantitativa do tipo descritiva. Na primeira fase da pesquisa realizou-se a pesquisa bibliográfica, a pesquisa documental e o estudo de casos selecionados, no qual se utilizou um roteiro de entrevistas com intuito de obter informações sobre as características da Região Turística e realizar um contato pessoal com as organizações de âmbito público e demais entidades que atuam com o setor turístico na localidade de Itajaí/SC. Na segunda fase da pesquisa, como procedimento técnico, adotou-se o levantamento ou survey e, como instrumento para o levantamento, optou-se pelo questionário estruturado com predomínio de perguntas fechadas. Com os dados apurados na segunda fase da pesquisa, foi realizado o tratamento destes com base em freqüências, média e moda, consideradas adequadas e suficientes para o que se desejou analisar. Os principais resultados da pesquisa apontaram que o setor turístico de Itajaí/SC não se constitui uma rede interorganizacional, tampouco possui iniciativas de ações cooperadas com médias baixas em todos dos atributos pesquisados. Embora não se constitua uma rede, considerou-se ao longo do estudo a fim de torná-la real a partir de seu engajamento à estrutura de cooperação proposta. A estrutura de cooperação foi adaptada para Itajaí-SC e sugeriu-se sua aplicação. Legitimou-se a estrutura de cooperação, bem como a sugestão de aplicação, junto a um grupo de especialistas a partir de critérios pré-estabelecidos. Ao final, conclui-se que a estrutura de cooperação, voltada às redes interorganizacionais do turismo permitirá o fortalecimento de iniciativas de cooperação das Regiões Turísticas que já estão estabelecidas por meio do Programa de Regionalização do Turismo Roteiros do Brasil, bem como das demais localidades, embora não contempladas pelo Programa, mas que buscam uma maior integração entre os atores de sua rede turística, sejam destinos principais ou complementare

Latino begins the interview giving a detailed history of how he started at the bottom in the Colombian textile industry and worked very hard to move up to mechanic. He discusses his jobs in textiles in Colombia and talks of different factories and working conditions. Latino tells of how he emigrated to the United States, going to work in textiles in Rhode Island. Later, because of crime in the area, he decided to move to Greenville, SC, and he tells of his journey there, and how he started there in textiles. Latino compares working in Colombia to working in Greenville, and he talks about the differences in Rhode Isalnd and Greenville. Latino mentions American Spinning, Monaghan, and the Woodside companies. He tells about life in Greenville with friends, family, and work. Estudo da prevalência de alterações posturais em escolares do ensino fundamental do muicípio de Florianópolis/SC

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação Física.Este estudo, do tipo descritivo-exploratório de corte transversal, objetivou investigar a prevalência de alterações posturais em escolares de 7 a 10 anos de idade, matriculados no ensino fundamental da rede municipal de Florianópolis/SC e, mais especificamente, estimar o índice de correção postural (ICP), traçar o perfil postural dos escolares, identificar o tipo de alteração postural prevalente, comparar os resultados referentes à análise postural encontrados entre os gêneros e faixas etárias e relacionar o ICP com a faixa etária, gênero e índice de massa corporal (IMC) dos escolares. Foram analisadas 256 crianças, utilizando o método de avaliação postural da Portland State University (PSU) com o auxílio de imagens fotográficas e de um software gráfico. Na avaliação observou-se os segmentos cabeça, ombros, coluna, tronco, tórax, abdômen, quadril, joelhos, pés e impressão plantar de cada indivíduo na vista lateral e na vista posterior. Os dados foram tratados empregando-se a estatística descritiva, o teste de Wilcoxon para amostras independentes e o coeficiente de correlação de Spearman (com nível de significância de p<0,05). Nos escolares em geral, na vista lateral, houve uma prevalência de alterações acentuadas nos segmentos da cabeça, ombro e lombar. Já na vista posterior, em ambos os gêneros houve uma prevalência de alterações acentuadas no segmento dos joelhos. Comparando os escolares de ambos os gêneros na vista lateral, observou-se que as meninas apresentaram significativamente maior prevalência de alterações de cabeça do que os meninos e que os meninos apresentaram uma prevalência significativamente maior do que as meninas no caso dos joelhos. Na vista posterior, as meninas apresentaram uma prevalência significativamente maior do que os meninos tanto no que se refere à cabeça quanto aos ombros. As alterações posturais apresentaram-se em todas as idades com índices variados, o mesmo acontecendo com o IMC. Conclui-se que os meninos tendenciam a apresentar uma melhor postura corporal do que as meninas. This descriptive-exploratory traverse cut type of research objected to investigate the postural alterations prevalence in scholars from 7 to 10 years old, enrolled in middle school from the public system of Florianópolis/SC and, more specifically, to estimate the index of postural correction (IPC), to identify the scholars' postural profile, to identify the postural alteration prevalence type, to compare the results regarding the postural analysis found between the genders and age groups and to relate IPC with age group, gender and body mass index (BMI) of the scholars. It was analyzed 256 children using the method of postural evaluation from Portland State University (PSU) with the help of photographic images and a graphic software. For the evaluation it was observed the segments from head, shoulders, column, trunk, thorax, abdomen, hip, knees, feet and plant impression of each individual from lateral and dorsal view. The data were statically treated by using the descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon test for independent samples and the correlation coefficient of Spearman (with significant level of p<0,05). The scholars, in general, from the lateral view, presented a prevalence of accentuated alterations in the head, shoulder and lumbar segments. Thus from the dorsal view, in both genders there was a alternation prevalence accentuated in the knees segment. Comparing the scholars from both genders by the lateral view, it was observed that girls presented a significant larger alternation prevalence on the head than the boys and boys presented a significant larger prevalence on the knees compared with the girls. In the dorsal view, the girls presented a significant larger prevalence on the head and shoulders than boys. The postural alterations was presented in all age groups with varied indexes and BMI. Therefore, this study indicates that boys tend to present a better corporal posture than the girls

No full textIn this paper a high-resolution extension of CLEAN-SC is proposed: HR-CLEAN-SC. Where CLEAN-SC uses peak sources in “dirty maps” to define so-called source components, HR-CLEAN-SC takes advantage of the fact that source components can likewise be derived from points at some distance from the peak, as long as these “source markers” are on the main lobe of the Point Spread Function (PSF). This is very useful when sources are closely spaced together, such that their PSFs interfere. Then, alternative markers can be sought in which the relative influence by PSFs of other source positions is minimised. For those markers the source components better agree with the actual sources, which allows for better estimation of their locations and strengths. This paper outlines the theory needed to understand this approach and discusses applications to 2D and 3D microphone array simulations with closely spaced sources

Ca-modified Al–Mg–Sc alloy with high strength at elevated temperatures due to a hierarchical microstructure
No full textAl-Mg alloys are normally prone to lose part of their yield and tensile strength at high temperatures due to insufficient thermal stability of the microstructure. Here, we present a Ca-modified Al–Mg–Sc alloy demonstrating high strength at elevated temperatures. The microstructure contains Al4Ca phases distributed as a network along the grain boundary and Al3(Sc,Zr) nano-particles dispersed within the grains. The microstructure evolution and age-hardening analysis indicate that the combination of an Al4Ca network and Sc-rich nano-particles leads to excellent thermal stability even upon aging at 300 °C. The tensile strength of the alloy for temperatures up to 250 °C is significantly improved by an aging treatment and is comparable with the commercial heat-resistant aluminum alloys, i.e., A356 and A319. At a high temperature of 300 °C, the tensile strength is superior to the above-mentioned commercial alloys, even more so when expressed as the specific strength due to the low density of Ca-modified Al–Mg–Sc alloy.
