Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. CARTAS DE LICENCIANDOS DE LETRAS DA UFERSA: ENTRE PERCALÇOS E PERCURSOS NA FORMAÇÃO DOCENTE
Full text linkO que contam licenciandos de suas vivências na universidade? Como se apresentam a
si mesmos no futuro? Quais projeções fazem de si? O que destacam em suas escritas? Essas
escritas podem nos ajudar a pensar a formação docente? São indagações que envolvem a
tessitura deste trabalho. Tais questionamentos impulsionam o presente estudo, que tem por
objetivo primordial identificar e categorizar, a partir da escrita de si dos discentes das
Licenciaturas em Letras Inglês, Libras e Português, elementos que contribuam para
compreender seus percursos vividos na Universidade, os desafios enfrentados e as perspectivas
profissionais. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa em educação (ANDRÉ; LÜDKE, 2015), o
corpus de análise são 8 (oito) cartas escritas por graduandos dos três Cursos de Letras do Centro
Multidisciplinar de Caraúbas, escritas no semestre 2018.1, durante a participação no
componente curricular, de caráter obrigatório, Psicologia da Educação. Para a realização deste
trabalho levamos em consideração toda uma prática de leitura, textos, reflexões, diálogos,
comentários, prática de escrita, diálogos com diferentes autores com o fim de um
aprofundamento teórico, metodológico e que possa trazer efetivas contribuições para a
formação desses graduandos. Dos achados destacamos quatro categorias: 1. Jornada
acadêmica: dificuldades em acompanhar o curso, desafios, obstáculos e inseguranças; 2.
Família: entre motivações e desmotivações; 3. Docência: sonho de ingressar e de finalizar a
graduação; 4. Projeções: um futuro de sonhos. Com relação a primeira categoria observamos
nas narrativas dos licenciandos suas jornadas acadêmicas, suas trajetórias, suas dificuldades,
percalços e percursos como também desafios, obstáculos e inseguranças. Na segunda categoria
que trata sobre família: motivações e desmotivações, tivemos memórias familiares como o
suporte emocional ou como desmotivações a partir de críticas pela escolha do curso. Tivemos
como motivações o desejo de mudanças e transformações na educação, como desmotivações
foram indicadas, principalmente, as críticas feitas por parte de pessoas queridas, limitações,
frustrações e dificuldades. A terceira categoria, por sua vez, apresenta questões relacionadas à
docência: sonho de ingressar e finalizar a graduação. As narrativas nos demonstram que os
graduandos estão compreendendo a docência em suas vivências e experiências na universidade,
como início em uma nova língua, seja ela Portuguesa, Inglesa ou a Língua Brasileira de Sinais,
bem como elementos culturais destas e dos seus usuários, assimilação e atuação de si mesmo,
como, futuros profissionais em formação. Na quarta categoria temos as projeções profissionais
e um futuro de sonhos. Nessa categoria os colaboradores da pesquisa projetam o caminho que
vão trilhar e um futuro com grandes realizações e promessas cumpridas. Acreditamos que as
narrativas autobiográficas ajudaram ao licenciando a se projetar em um futuro não muito
distante e se projetar num futuro de sonhos e superações. Por fim, entendemos que as escritas
de si são mecanismos profícuos na formação docente e contribuem, por um lado, para estimular
a autoria na universidade, e, por outro, para processos de ressignificações da própria vida, pela
narrativa de si.41 p
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Full text linkWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Children s Narratives: Tell us what Children their Experiences in Hospital and Class Hospital?
No full textThis dissertation focuses on the narratives of children hospitalized with chronic diseases. The overall goal is to deduce, from the look of the child health care, hospital class contributions to the process of school inclusion. The research is part of the qualitative ethnographical approach and is based on the principles and research methods (auto)biographical in education and schooling in hospital. Participated in the investigation 05(five) children, aged between 06 (six) and 12 (twelve) years of age, treated at the Center for Children s Onco-Hematology, Varela Santiago Children s Hospital in Natal-RN. The corpus used for the analysis comprises five (05) narrative interviews, 03 (three) drawings made by children as well as records in the researcher s field diary. The sources were collected during the months of August 2010 to February 2011. The analysis revealed that the inclusion of the hospital class, and ensure the right to education, contributes to the construction of strategies for coping with illness and hospitalization, as it promotes autonomy, comfort, playfulness and self-knowledge, the rand the world, easing the stress of hospitalization. The figure of the teacher took the class hospital in the voices of children, a reliever and minimizing the role of double exclusion that cause illness and hospitalization, showing the contributions to (re) construction of identity and subjectivity constitution strengthened. The children interviewed said that the hospital class leave the hospital more cheerful. The playfulness and learning experiences in the hospital are seen by children as actions that go beyond the physical treatment of the disease, since it provides them with acceptance and understanding of hospitalization and illness, to give them affective security and emotional. In conclusion, the narratives of children confirm that the service class hospital ensures continuity of schooling, but they reveal, namely, that this service provides them socialization among peers and with adults, strengthening the emotional, social and cognitive biopsychosocial perspective of attentionCoordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorEsta dissertação tem como foco as narrativas de crianças hospitalizadas com doenças crônicas. O objetivo geral é depreender, a partir do olhar da criança em tratamento de saúde, as contribuições da classe hospitalar para seu processo de inclusão escolar. A pesquisa se insere na abordagem qualitativa de cunho etnográfico e fundamenta-se nos princípios e métodos da pesquisa (auto)biográfica em educação e nas teorias da escolarização hospitalar. A figura da professora da classe hospitalar assumiu, nas vozes das crianças, um papel apaziguador e minimizador da dupla exclusão que o adoecimento e a hospitalização provocam, evidenciando as contribuições para a (re)construção de identidades fortalecidas e a constituição de subjetividades. As crianças entrevistadas afirmam que as classes hospitalares deixa o hospital mais alegre. A ludicidade e as aprendizagens experienciadas no hospital são vistas pelas crianças como ações que vão além do tratamento físico da doença, uma vez que lhes proporciona a aceitação e a compreensão da hospitalização e do adoecimento, ao transmitir-lhes segurança afetiva e emocional. Em conclusão, as narrativas das crianças ratificam que o serviço da classe hospitalar assegura a continuidade da escolarização, mas elas revelam, notadamente, que esse serviço proporciona-lhes a socialização entre pares e com os adultos, fortalecendo os aspectos emocionais, sociais e cognitivos, numa perspectiva de atençã

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
