Corporality and Citizenship in Mexico: Don Justo de José Gómez Robleda (1940-1950)
No full textEl texto aborda parte de la investigación sobre José Gómez Robleda de 1940 a 1950 en México sobre el cuerpo, la ciudadanía y la educación. El análisis interpreta la relación entre cuerpo y ciudadanía a través de la novela: Don Justo de José Gómez Robleda. Metodológicamente, se vincula el cuerpo y la ciudadanía como contenidos centrales de análisis a través de una investigación cualitativa, histórica y documental apoyada en fuentes primarias y secundarias. El trabajo coloca la importancia del cuerpo a través del biopoder en Foucault y el análisis de Michel de Certeau sobre los aparatos de su encarnación. El entramado analítico comprende la biotipología de José Gómez Robleda y la forma en que definió la corporalidad en la civilidad, la ciudadanía y la escuela. Las conclusiones principales del texto apuntan: a) al cuerpo como eje rector en la conformación ciudadana mexicana a mediados del siglo XX; b) la explicación racial corporal de la modernidad y la actividad laboral como ejes de la ciudadanía mexicana de mediados del siglo XX, en lo individual y social.The text approaches part of José Gómez Robleda’s investigation on the body, citizenship and education, from 1940 to 1950, in Mexico. The analysis interprets the relationship between body and citizenship through the novel Don Justo, by José Gómez Robleda. Methodologically, the body and citizenship are linked as the core content of analysis through a qualitative, historic, and documental investigation in primary and secondary sources. The work positions the body’s importance through Michel Foucault’s biopower and Michel de Certeau’s analysis of its incarnation apparatus. The analytical framework comprehends the biotypology of José Gómez Robleda and the way it defined the corporality within civility, citizenship, and the school. The main conclusions of the text point at a) the body as the guiding axis of the Mexican citizenship formation in the mid-twentieth century; b) The racial corporal explanation of modernity and the labor activity as the axis of twentieth-century Mexican citizenship, individually and socially
Computational vision in UV-Mapping of textured meshes coming from photogrammetric recovery: Unwrapping frescoed vaults
No full textSometimes it is difficult to represent "on paper" the existing reality of architectonic elements, depending on the complexity of his geometry, but not only in cases with complex geometries: non-relief surfaces, can need a "special planar format" for its graphical representation. Nowadays, there are a lot of methods to obtain tridimensional recovery of our Cultural Heritage with different ranges of the relationship accuracy / costs, even getting high accuracy using "low-cost" recovery methods as digital photogrammetry, which allow us easily to obtain a graphical representation "on paper": ortho-images of different points of view. This can be useful for many purposes but, for others, an orthographic projection is not really very interesting. In non-site restoration tasks of frescoed vaults, a "planar format" representation in needed to see in true magnitude the paintings represented on the intrados vault, because of the general methodology used: gluing the fresco on a fabric, removing the fresco-fabric from the support, moving to laboratory, removing the fresco from the fabric, restoring the fresco, gluing back the restored fresco on another fabric, laying the restored fresco on the original location and removing the fabric. Because of this, many times, an unfolded model is needed, in a similar way a cylinder or cone can be unfolded, but in this case with a texture included: UV unwrapping. Unfold and fold-back processes, can be especially interesting in restoration field of frescoed vaults and domes at: chromatic recovery of paintings, reconstruction of partially missed geometries, transference of paintings on surfaces, etc

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

The Right to Strike under the United States Constitution: Theory, Practice, and Possible Implications for Canada
No full textAnswering critics of the Canadian Supreme Court's judgment in B.C. Health, the author argues that the Court laid the foundation for a principled and durable doctrine protecting constitutional labour rights, one that goes directly to the heart of the matter — the inequality of workers’ power in the employment relation. In the author’s view, two paths could lead from B.C. Health to the recognition of Charter protec- tion for a right to strike: one that treats the right as an accessory to col- lective bargaining, and one that upholds the right directly on the basis of the Charter values of equality and participation. The author supports the latter approach, contending that constitutional rights should be defined in relation to fundamental values, in a way that is not contingent on time-bound or fact-sensitive assessments about the role of strikes within a particular collective bargaining regime. Although a Charter right to strike may involve the courts in difficult choices about when to defer to legislative policy decisions, and courts may lack the institutional capac- ity to deal effectively with labour law issues, the author points out that judges can look to ILO standards for expert guidance. Noting that the U.S. experience in this area might be of considerable use to Canadians, the author concludes by providing an overview of American case law concerning a constitutional right to strike.Peer reviewe
G-Rank: Unsupervised Continuous Learn-to-Rank for Edge Devices in a P2P Network
No full textRanking algorithms in traditional search engines are powered by enormous training data sets that are meticulously engineered and curated by a centralized entity. Decentralized peer-to-peer (p2p) networks such as torrenting applications and Web3 protocols deliberately eschew centralized databases and computational architectures when designing services and features. As such, robust search-and-rank algorithms designed for such domains must be engineered specifically for decentralized networks, and must be lightweight enough to operate on consumer-grade personal devices such as a smartphone or laptop computer. We introduce G-Rank, an unsupervised ranking algorithm designed exclusively for decentralized networks. We demonstrate that accurate, relevant ranking results can be achieved in fully decentralized networks without any centralized data aggregation, feature engineering, or model training. Furthermore, we show that such results are obtainable with minimal data preprocessing and computational overhead, and can still return highly relevant results even when a user’s device is disconnected from the network. G-Rank is highly modular in design, is not limited to categorical data, and can be implemented in a variety of domains with minimal modification.
