'Controversies of Authentic Adolescent Realism in Isabel Quintero’s Gabi, a Girl in Pieces (2014) and Louise O’Neill’s Asking For It (2015)'
This chapter analyses the controversies surrounding authentic adolescent representation in two contemporary works of young adult (ya) realism: Gabi, a Girl in Pieces (2014) by Mexican American author Isabel Quintero and Asking For It (2015) by Irish author Louise O’Neill. The context and circumstances of these two texts are similar: both authors explore the injustices and hypocrisies of gendered expectations and social stigmas around perceived acceptable sexual behaviour for adolescents. Whereas Quintero takes an experimental approach to realism with Gabi, a Girl in Pieces, O’Neill’s Asking For It is more conventionally typical of the genre of “the problem novel.” Despite
this contrast, both novels have been received and celebrated as particularly realistic and authentically representative of youth culture and adolescents. In each case, literary elements that contribute to the novels’ realist status work in tandem with other aspects that construct a sense of authenticity around the fictional narratives, such as the author’s personal experiences—revealed in the peritext, reviews of the works, and
author interviews. This chapter argues that these novels’ reputation for authenticity deserves further analysis and highlights a need for sustained critical attention to be given to how ya authors shape realist narratives
Archives for a new world : revolutionary personal records in the Filipino-Canadian diaspora
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between personal records and politics in members of the Filipino diaspora living in Canada. The author conducted semi-structured interviews with their mother and three fellow activists, and used qualitative coding and personal writing as methods of analysis. The thesis applies archival theories of haunting, imagined records, corollary records, personal records, community archives, and other social justice-oriented archival theories through the lens of historical materialism to conclude that: (1) records, as items and aggregations, are embodied records of class struggle; (2) custody over and access to records is a form of political power; and (3) records are created in and by historical contexts of contradiction.Arts, Faculty ofiSchool (Library, Archival and Information Studies)Graduat
Hubungan Usia dengan Benign Prostate Hyperplasia dan Adenokarsinoma Prostat di Rumah Sakit Bethesda Yogyakarta
Age is a risk factor for the occurrence of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate adenocarcinoma. The prevalence of BPH increases as the size of the prostate gland itself increases in older men. Prostate adenocarcinoma is the most common type of prostate cancer. In 2020, the incidence of prostate cancer is fifth in the male sex. Older men show an increased incidence of BPH and prostate adenocarcinoma compared to younger men. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between age with BPH and prostate adenocarcinoma in Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta. The design of this study was cross-sectional using 62 medical records belonging to Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta in 2015-2019 which were taken using the consecutive sampling method. Data were analyzed using Fisher Exact Test and obtained p value=0.048 (p<0.05). The results of this study indicate there is a relationship between age and BPH and prostate adenocarcinoma.

Through this document, the final activity corresponding to the Diploma in deepening Psychosocial Accompaniment in Violence Scenarios is presented, offered by the National Open University and Distance UNAD, where the thematic developed from the Narrative Approaches in which the Psychosocial intervention is presented applied in the proposed cases that evidence the reality lived during the armed conflict and the after-effects of the post-conflict in Colombia.
From the proposed case of Jennifer Pinzon, the importance of narratives is retaken as a system of arguments that explain the violent events experienced in Colombia during the armed conflict. In Colombia, there was an armed confrontation in which political actors confronted each other, who sometimes supported themselves by terrorist means and financed through illicit activities, such as drug trafficking, extortion and kidnapping, among others. This confrontation is of a civil nature as soon as civilians become the most important piece, because not only are they victims, but they are the play pieces of the conflict; Poverty, the marginalization of development and the inability of the State to govern the territory led to the non-state armed actors in many areas of the country assuming the regulation of the social, economic and political relations of the communities.
This work made it possible to give a new meaning to psychosocial accompaniment where resilience, subjectivities, voices, etc., generated an impact that gives us the possibility of reconstructing a new chapter in the lives of people from a social, critical and creative practice that generates a significant change on reality.
With each of the activities carried out, it was possible to confirm the importance of the professional work of the Psychologist where the Psychosocial Approach refers to social interaction understood as the relationship between the individual and society. Some aspects in which we must prioritize to do the Psychosocial accompaniment is to be conscious in the decision-making, to contribute knowledge where a better intervention is achieved, emphasized in the welfare of the affected population as well as for our country; promote the capabilities of people by strengthening their resources to face each of the situations that arise.
With the above, we can have a different vision of the realities, of the approach, of the psychosocial intervention, the violence, causes and consequences in the affected population and victim of the armed conflict in Colombia.

The dissertation consists of seven chapters, structured into two parts (Volume I), and twenty appendixes (Volume II). Part I (Chapters I to IV) shows that the arte de canto, until now generally overlooked or undervalued in music historiography, was produced in print runs of thousands of copies and sold for a low price; it had a broad circulation in the Iberian Peninsula and the New World, contributing to the spread of musical literacy in distinct didactic contexts (churches, universities, private settings) and among social groups until then excluded from learning the rudiments of music. The little known Juan Martínez’s Arte de canto llano (Seville, 1530) emerges as the most circulated music book in the Hispanic world during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The aim of Part II (Chapters V to VII) is to approach the musical life of the sixteenth-century Iberian world through the exploration of women’s contributions, thus broadening the field of historical research. The study of some connections between music books and women shows that the points of overlap between the private and the public spheres, on the one hand, and the written and the oral music transmission, on the other hand, not only make women’s musical practices visible, but also offer new vistas on the popular culture of the age. Through a variety of source materials (artes de canto, conduct manuals, Inquisition records, literature, letters and inventories of goods, among others) it has been possible to document the musical activities of women such as Catalina de Zúñiga, VI Countess of Lemos, Isabel de Plazaola, and Isabel de Aragón, IV Duchess of the Infantado. Combining methodologies from traditional musicology with those borrowed from book history and popular culture, this dissertation analyzes music in the culture of the Renaissance Iberian world through the prism of double Otherness involved in studying the ‘other’ music books –that is the undervalued artes de canto– and their connections to women of that period
Perceptual expertise as a shift from strategic interference to automatic holistic processing
Holistic processing was initially characterized as a unique hallmark of face perception but later was argued to be a marker of general perceptual expertise. More recently, evidence for holistic processing-measured by interference from task-irrelevant parts-was obtained in novices, raising questions for its usefulness as a test of expertise. Indeed, recent studies use the same task to make opposite claims: One group of researchers found more interference in novices than experts for Chinese characters, while another found more interference in experts than novices with objects. Offering a resolution to this paradox, our work on the perception of musical notation suggests that expert and novice interference effects represent two ends of a continuum: Interference is initially strategic and contextual but becomes more automatic as holistic processing develops with the acquisition of perceptual expertise. © The Author(s) 2011.link_to_subscribed_fulltex
Identity and consumption practices of Northamptonshire Caribbeans c.1955-1989
The objective of this thesis is to delineate and analyse Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumption c.1955-1989. Author-collected and other oral histories alongside complementary primary and secondary references dovetail to unearth and analyse aspects of Post-War Caribbean consumption in a British provincial location that have been significantly unexplored previously. Central to the argument is the contention that identity is fundamentally significant in comprehending and analysing Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumption. Various conceptualisations of identity facilitated development of consumer materialisations and aspirations. This thesis explores how multiple forms of identity as Caribbean, Black and British people were significant in shaping local Caribbeans' consumption. The succeeding pages address and analyse how these multiple identities influenced consumption and how provincial consumer behaviour was shaped by Caribbeans' relative co-ethnic isolation in Northamptonshire. Chapter 3 delineates and analyses consumer practices and practicalities of Northamptonshire Caribbeans. Integral within these consumer practices and practicalities are changes in consumption over time, intergenerational differences in consumption, as well as aspects of consumption that could be considered 'typical' and/or 'atypical' Northamptonshire Caribbean consumption; all of which are incorporated within this chapter. Chapter 4 connects identity and consumption through enhancing understanding of Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumer networks. These networks interacted with the combination of identities local Caribbeans psychologically felt part of within various Caribbean, Black and British permutations. Furthermore, such identities varied more widely amongst the younger generation than their co-ethnic elders, a concept which is also addressed. Education and cultural currency are two novel strands through which to analyse connections between consumption and identity. The final two chapters deploy these concepts in an innovative manner creating and developing greater understanding of Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumption. Chapter 5 expounds on the concept that education can be used as consumption whilst shaping future consumer behaviour, both ideas significantly under-explored previously. Chapter 6 introduces the theory of cultural currency, the idea that aspects of culture have finite, but changing, values and must be shared to have value similar to monetary currencies having exchange values for other monetary currencies. This chapter demonstrates how Northamptonshire Caribbeans shared aspects of Caribbean culture as cultural currency, fostering co-ethnic strength whilst gaining inter-ethnic respect for Caribbeans. Through comprehending Caribbean identity, correlations between empirical and social history, local consumption, as well as educational and cultural circumstances that stimulated and inspired Northamptonshire Caribbeans, this thesis distinctively illuminates how local Caribbeans' consumption interacted with various permutations of Afro-Caribbean, Black and/or British identities whilst representing idiosyncratic local nodes within these larger amalgamations
