    [THE INFLUENCE OF BOTANICAL INSECTICIDES BASED ON CROTON OIL AND DERRIS ROOT AGAINST BROWN PLANTHOPPER]. Brown planthopper (BPH) (Nilaparvata lugens Stall) is a serious pest in rice. Using synthetic insecticide to control BPH is harmful for human health and can caused environmental pollution. The objective of this research is to find out ecofriendly insecticide to control BPH. Research has been conducted at Entomological laboratory, Indonesian Spice and Medicinal Crops Research Institute (ISMECRI), Bogor. It was designed with CRD, 16 treatments and 3 replications. Treatments consisted of botanical insecticides based on Croton tiglium and Derris elliptica. Each material was extracted by water, methanol, and xylene, and then tested by individually and combination, so there were 15 formulas and 1 control treatment (water). Third nymph BPH and IR64 rice variety were used in this research. Research was done in two methods, i.e. contact application and residual application. The result shows that there are 11 formulas which are prospective to be further developed i.e aqueous extraction (6 formulas) and combination extraction (aqueous with xylene and methanol (5 formulas). The aqueous extraction maybe the most prospective formulation since the technique could easily be adopted by farmers. Botanical pesticide based on Croton tiglium and Derris elliptica are very promising, therefore the research should be continued to find out the best formula of botanical insecticides for controlling BPH)

    Potency of Medicinal and Aromatic Crop Extracts to control Golden SnailResearch aimed to evaluate potency of some medicinal and aromatic plants as raw materials of molluscicides to control the golden snail has been done in the En-tomological Laboratory of Medicinal and Aromatic Crops Research Institute, Bogor, Indonesia from February to October 2008. The study used factorial ith rando-mized block design basis. The first factor is three levels dipping time of 5, 10, and 20 hours. The second factor is 14 kinds of extracts to be tested i.e. extracts of clove, the crown of god, seraiwangi, turmeric, physic nut, pig nut, legundi, chili java, ba-badotan, brotowali, bitter, kenikir, noni, and rerak. Research initially conducted by dissolving 5% tween 80 in water. After that into the 1 l of solution is placed 5 g of extract to be tested so that the concen-tration of extract in the solution to be tested is 0.5%. After that the snails were put into the solution and were fed with ta-ro leaf (Colocasia giganteum). In the con-trol treatment the snail only be soaked in water containing 5% tween 80. Soaking performed for 5, 10, and 20 hours in glass jars 9 x 15 cm2 diameter. After soaking snails then were transferred into the bottle containing clean water and then given a taro leaf size ~100 cm2 as food. Each tre-atment used 10 snails and repeated 3 times. Observations were made at 1, 2, and 3 days after application of the golden snail mortality by counting the number of snails that died after treatment and of inhibition of eating by noting the eaten leaf area. The results showed that the clove, the crown of god, Cintronella oil, and tur-meric are the most effective extract with 100% mortality rate and percentage of >90% inhibition of eating. Among the plants tested, clove most prospective to be developed as a controlling golden snail due to its high yield and the most immediate cause of death of the snail test.

    PENGARUH PEMUPUKAN N, P DAN K TERHADAP PRODUKTIVITAS DAN MUTU MINYAK Mentha arvensis

    Mentha arvensis is an annual herbaceous plant that produces cornmint oil used for  pharmaceutical and food industries. As a source of menthol and dimentolized oil, M. arvensis has a profitable opportunity to be cultivated in Indonesian agroclimate. The research was conducted to obtain the optimal dosages of N, P and K fertilizers, for increasing the yield and oil quality of M. arvensis, planted in Cicurug Research garden (latosol soil, 550 m asl.), by using randomized block design, with two factors, arranged factorially, with 3 replications.  First factor was M. arvensis promising number (Mear 0010 and Mear 0012), and fsecond factor was NPK fertilizer, included:  a). control, b). 69 kg N + 54 kg P2O5 + 94,5 kg K2O, c). 69 kg N + 72 kg P2O5 + 94,5 kg K2O, d). 69 kg N + 90 kg P2O5 + 94,5 kg K2O, e). 92 kg N + 90 kg P2O5 + 126 kg K2O, f). 92 kg N + 72 kg P2O5 + 126 kg K2O, and g). 138 kg N + 90 kg  P2O5 + 126 kg K2O per ha.  Variables observed were plant height, number of leaf and branch, biomass weight, oil content, free menthol content, and total menthol content.  The results showed that application of 92 kg N + 72 kg P2O5 + 126 kg K2O/ha equivalent to 200 kg Urea+ 200 kg SP-36 + 200 kg KCl/ha to M. arvensis, resulted better herb biomass, oil content, total menthol content and oil yield at first harvest compared with other fertilizer treatments.  At first harvest, oil and menthol yield were 41 and 25 kg / ha. The uptake of N, P, K nutrients were N > K > P, respectively.

Pengendalian wereng batang cokelat (WBC) masih ditekankan pada penggunaan varietas tahan dan insektisida. Perlu upaya alternatif menggunakan cara pengendalian yang lebih ramah lingkungan, diantaranya agens hayati, seperti cendawan entomopatogen &lt;em&gt;Beauveria bassiana&lt;/em&gt; dan pupuk organik cair (POC). Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan campuran cendawan entomopatogen &lt;em&gt;B. bassiana&lt;/em&gt; dan POC terhadap hama WBC. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium dan Rumah Kasa Balai Penelitian Tanaman Rempah dan Obat (Balittro) Bogor sejak Juli sampai September 2015. Penelitian terdiri atas dua kegiatan. Kegiatan pertama adalah percobaan kompatibilitas yang dirancang secara Acak Lengkap (RAL), empat perlakuan dan diulang lima kali. Perlakuan yang diuji adalah tiga  konsentrasi larutan POC (5, 10 dan 20 ml.l&lt;sup&gt;-1&lt;/sup&gt;), dan air sebagai kontrol. Pengujian dilakukan terhadap pertumbuhan cendawan &lt;em&gt;B. bassiana&lt;/em&gt; pada medium yang mengandung POC. Kegiatan kedua adalah pengujian keefektifan cendawan &lt;em&gt;B bassiana &lt;/em&gt;untuk mengontrol WBC di rumah kasa, dirancang menggunakan RAL, lima perlakuan dan diulang lima kali. Perlakuan yang diuji adalah &lt;em&gt;B. bassiana &lt;/em&gt;(kerapatan spora 10&lt;sup&gt;8 &lt;/sup&gt;ml&lt;sup&gt;-1&lt;/sup&gt;)&lt;em&gt;; &lt;/em&gt;&lt;em&gt;B. bassiana&lt;/em&gt; + POC (10 ml.l&lt;sup&gt;-1&lt;/sup&gt;); minyak seraiwangi (5 ml.l&lt;sup&gt;-1&lt;/sup&gt;) dan minyak cengkeh (5 ml.l&lt;sup&gt;-1&lt;/sup&gt;) sebagai pembanding, serta air (kontrol). Aplikasi dilakukan dengan cara menyemprotkan larutan perlakuan dengan konsentrasi 5 ml.l&lt;sup&gt;-1&lt;/sup&gt; pada nimfa instar 2 WBC yang diinfestasikan pada tanaman padi dalam polibag. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa POC menghambat 46,64% pertumbuhan &lt;em&gt;B. bassiana&lt;/em&gt; secara &lt;em&gt;in vitro&lt;/em&gt;. Namun, keefektifan&lt;em&gt; &lt;/em&gt;campuran &lt;em&gt;B. bassiana&lt;/em&gt; + POC sama baiknya dengan &lt;em&gt;B. bassiana &lt;/em&gt;secara tunggal. Hal ini menunjukkan POC dapat diaplikasikan berselang-seling dengan &lt;em&gt;B. bassiana&lt;/em&gt; untuk mengendalikan WBC pada padi.&lt;/p&gt;</jats:p

    Effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on early growth, root colonization, and chlorophyll content of North Maluku nutmeg cultivars

    This study aimed to investigate the agronomic traits of nutmeg transplanting by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation. The low-fertility soil of Sofifi North Maluku was subjected to a slow early growth stage of nutmeg cultivars. A completely randomized design was used in the experiment. The first factor was three different AMF doses: 0, 4, and 8 g seedlings−1. The second factor consisted of three cultivars: “Ternate 1,” “Tobelo 1,” and “Makian.” Root colonization and agronomic traits were measured 28 weeks after inoculation and transplantation. Results showed that AMF inoculation increased the AM colonization by 2.5–39.0%, significantly increased the leaf area (LA) (p < 0.01) in all cultivars, and interacted with cultivars to increase chlorophyll a (Chl a) (p < 0.05), chlorophyll b (Chl b) (p < 0.01), and total Chl (p < 0.01). Cultivars “Makian” showed the highest Chl (188.4%) at 8 g seedling−1 doses of AMF that were significantly (p < 0.01) different from the cultivar “Tobelo 1” at the same dose. The largest mycorrhizal response was found in the cultivar “Ternate 1” (biomass increase of 30–37.0%). The cultivar “Ternate 1” produced the largest LA (36.7–106.9%) and shoot dry weight (27.8–45.8%) that were significantly (p < 0.01) different from the other cultivars. The percentage of AM colonization was strongly determined (R 2 = 0.88) by Chl a, Chl b, and K content in leaves. This technology is a breakthrough to increase LA and plant biomass in the early growth stage of nutmeg cultivation

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa POC menghambat 46,64% pertumbuhan B. bassiana secara in vitro. Namun, keefektifan campuran B. bassiana + POC sama baiknya dengan B. bassiana secara tunggal.     COST OF PRODUCTION AND FEASIBILITY STUDY OF ORGANIC SITRONELA AGRIBUSINESS

    The cost production and business feasibility is useful in determining the price cost, and decision making for future business development of organic citonella. The research was conducted at the PT. Pemalang Agro Wangi in Jonggol - Bogor Regency in April 2019.  Analysis of the cost of production was carried out by the full costing method. The feasibility test was carried out with several investment feasibility criteria, namely B/C ratio, NPV and IRR.Data collection was done by interviewing key informants, namely: producers and farmers of organic citronella using snowball sampling. The results showed that price cost of seeds, herbs and oil of organic  sitronela were Rp.103,00/cuttings, Rp662,00/kg and Rp205.757,00/kg. The Organic sitronela nursery and herbs were feasible, at 7% / year interest rates,  each  produced Net B/C ratio were 4,7% and NPV Rp289.386.802,00 per ha, and B/C ratio of 1.05, NPV of Rp49.024.781,00 and IRR 17,92% for eleven ha Organic citronella cultivation produced essential oil content of 0.35% to 0.7% lower than inorganic cultivation &gt;1%, thus impact on higher cost of product. In order for the cultivation of organic citronella to develop, the selling price of oil should be more expensive than inorganic citronella oil.Keywords: Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendl, organic, cost price, business feasibility AbstrakANALISA BIAYA POKOK DAN KELAYAKAN AGRIBISNIS SERAI WANGI ORGANIKPerhitungan harga pokok dan kelayakan usaha sangat bermanfaat dalam menetapkan harga jual, dan pengambilan keputusan untuk pengembangan usaha serai wangi organik. Penelitian dilakukan di kebun PT. Pemalang Agro Wangi di Jonggol – Kabupaten Bogor pada bulan April 2019. Analisis harga pokok produksi dilakukan dengan metode full costing. Uji kelayakan dilakukan dengan kriteria kelayakan investasi yaitu B/C ratio, NPV dan IRR. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode wawancara kepada informan kunci yaitu: produsen serai wangi organik dan petani penggarap menggunakan metode bola salju (snowball sampling). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan usaha agribisnis serai wangi organik menghasilkan harga pokok benih, daun dan minyak masing-masing sebesar Rp103,00/stek,  Rp662,00/kg dan Rp205.757,00/kg. Usahatani benih dan daun serai wangi organik layak diusahakan, pada suku bunga 7%/tahun. Untuk usaha benih diperoleh B/C 4,7 dan NPV Rp289.386.802,00 per ha, serta untuk usaha daun diperoleh B/C 1,05, NPV Rp49.024.781,00 dan IRR 17,92 % per delapan ha. Budidaya serai wangi organik menghasilkan kadar minyak atsiri 0,35-0,7% lebih rendah dari pada budidaya anorganik (&gt;1%), sehingga berdampak pada harga pokok produk yang lebih tinggi. Agar budidaya serai wangi organik berkembang, harga jual minyak seharusnya lebih mahal dari minyak serai wangi anorganik.Kata kunci: Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendl, organik, harga pokok, kelayakan usah
