Multiparameter measurement of biogeochemical properties of the sea surface microlayer (SML), 0.5-meter depth, underlying water (ULW) at 1-meter depth and near surface ocean at 1.5-meter depth during cruise FK1911120 onboard RV Falkor. The pH, temperature and conductivity were measured both in the SML and ULW with two VWR model MU 6100H. The salinity values were calculated from the conductivity and corrected with discrete water samples measured with a salinometer in the lab. The temperature reported comes from the conductivity sensors. The pH (0m) and pH (1m) were measured in surface and bulk water (approximated 0.5 and 1.5 m depth) with a flowthrough sensor manufactured by SubCtech and with two AMT pH sensors. Fluorescent dissolved organic matter (fDOM) in SML and ULW was measured with two TriOs MicroFlu sensors. All the meteorological data comes from a Davis Instrument Vantage Pro2 located on the top of the sea surface scanner (S3) mast. Discrete samples for surfactants analysis were taken with the S3 and analysed in the laboratory with voltammetry. More details about the S3 and the sensors on it are described in Ribas-Ribas et al., 2017 (https://doi.org/10.1175/JTECH-D-17-0017.1). The S3 was deployed during 17 stations between the 20 November 2019 and the 17 December 2019 in the Pacific Ocean

Abstract : Small-scale agriculture is primarily responsible for food supply, emerging as an option to ensure food security and sovereignty, with a productive occupation of the rural workforce. The Agrarian Reform, by creating family production units, arises in this scenario. INCRA - National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform, being manager of the national land reform policy, is responsible for installing and consolidating those family units, built into the land reform program, which in 2015, reached a total of 957,000 families occupying 89 million hectares. The INCRA efforts have been facing significant limitation, as the dominant model of agriculture in the country can be barely be adjusted to the peculiarities of family farming. This hegemonic model, focused on the use of technologies highly dependent on agrochemicals, pesticides and transgenic seeds, establishes a logic of monoculture for export, which depends on production scales that are incompatible with the size of the family production units. To illustrate this, we consider that while soybean crops become economically viable as of 200 hectares of crops, settlers farmers receive lots of 20 hectares. Considering this, it is up to INCRA to stimulate the adoption, in the settlements, of technological matrices better adjusted to family farming. Among these possibilities, we point out matrices of agroecological basis, which have strong autonomous growth, and that are now placed under the protection of PLANAPO - National Policy on agroecology and organic production. The implementation of these matrices requires coordination between various instruments, involving credit support, market, and especially technical assistance teams and rural extension. This study examines the impact of the INCRA efforts, through these and other instruments, seeking the expansion of the emblematic experience with ecological rice in Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, we conducted interviews with farmers who develop this technology, comparing them to other farmers, who do not adopt it, and that are established in neighboring settlements, created in the same period in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. We also conducted interviews with INCRA agents, from the Rural Extension, local leaders, cooperatives and federations of cooperatives involved with production of ecological rice.We concluded that the migration to agroecological matrix is technically, economically, environmentally and socially viable. We concluded that, although the feasibilities, it requires investments that exceed the families' capabilities, depending on INCRA's contributions. More than that, it also requires the incorporation of knowledge distant from thereality of the settlers, and close coordination between the agrarian reform policy and other state policies, such as PAA, PNAE, More Food, production credits, individual and collective, and especially technical assistance. In other words, the INCRA initiatives are required however inadequate and, in view of its discontinuity, the initiative of ecological rice becomes threatened. On the other hand, the experience of ecological rice emerges as an important element of search for alternatives to farmers established in other regions, where one should seek a key culture, such as rice, which allows progress towards the implementation of agroecology in the settlements, according to each biome's characteristics and culture. The study presents effective contribution elements to the National Policy on Land Reform ? PNRA, in RS and other regions, also suggesting their differentiation according to the most relevant environmental characteristics in each case

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
