Deniz: A Robust Bidding Strategy for Negotiation Support Systems
No full textThis paper presents the Deniz agent that has been specifically designed to support human negotiators in their bidding. The design of Deniz is done with the criteria of robustness and the availability of small data, due to a small number of negotiation rounds in mind. Deniz’s bidding strategy is based on an existing optimal concession strategy that concedes in relation to the expected duration of the negotiation. This accounts for the small data and small number of rounds. Deniz deploys an adaptive behavior-based mechanism to make it robust against exploitation. We tested Deniz against typical bidding strategies and against human negotiators. A Survey of Decision Support Mechanisms for Negotiation
No full textThis paper introduces a dependency analysis and a categorization of conceptualized and existing economic decision support mechanisms for negotiation. The focus of our survey is on economic decision support mechanisms, although some behavioural support mechanisms were included, to recognize the important work in that area. We categorize support mechanisms from four different aspects: (i) economic versus behavioral decision support, (ii) analytical versus strategical support, (iii) active versus passive support and (iv) implicit versus explicit support. Our survey suggests that active mechanisms would be more effective than passive ones, and that implicit mechanisms can shield the user from mathematical complexities. Reyhan Şahin—also known as Lady Bitch Ray—earned her M.A. in Linguistics, German Literature, and Education in 2004 and her doctorate in Linguistics in 2012 at the University of Bremen. Her alter ego, Lady Bitch Ray is a rapper, performer, fashion designer, and author. The following interview introduces Şahin’s work as a performer and as an academic and sheds light on the negotiation of feminist politics in a neoliberal context as well as how the complex politics of difference play out in contemporary, digital feminisms in the German-speaking context. By speaking in two voices, the academic and the performer/artist, the interview emphasizes the playful possibilities of the urgently political.</p

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) mendeskripsikan presuposisi eksistensial dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman, (2) mendeskripsikan presuposisi faktif dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman, (3) mendeskripsikan presuposisi leksikal dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman, (4) mendeskripsikan presuposisi struktural dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman, (5) mendeskripsikan presuposisi nonfaktif dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman, (6) mendeskripsikan presuposisi konterfaktual dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman, dan (7) mendeskripsikan presuposisi yang dominan dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman dengan data penelitian berupa percakapan antartokoh dalam novel Mendayung Impian Karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik telaah dokumen. Langkah-langkah analisis data penelitian ini, meliputi menyeleksi data, menganalisis data, menyajikan atau menjelaskan data, dan menarik kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) presuposisi eksistensial yang ditemukan berupa presuposisi yang ditandai oleh nomina, frasa nominal, keterangan tempat, dan keterangan waktu, (2) presuposisi faktif yang ditemukan berupa presuposisi yang ditandai oleh verba, frasa verbal, adjektiva, dan frasa adjektival, (3) presuposisi leksikal yang ditemukan berupa presuposisi yang ditandai oleh ungkapan leksikal khusus yang menimbulkan presuposisi dengan pernyataan lain yang secara konsep tidak dinyatakan langsung di dalam tuturan, (4) presuposisi nonfaktif yang ditemukan berupa presuposisi yang ditandai oleh nomina, frasa verbal, frasa preposisional, dan konjungsi, (5) presuposisi struktural yang ditemukan berupa presuposisi yang ditandai oleh kata tanya, dan (6) presuposisi konterfaktual yang ditemukan berupa presuposisi yang ditandai oleh kata konjungsi yang menyatakan pengandaian. Presuposisi yang dominan adalah presuposisi eksistensial, karena banyak ditemukan penanda-penanda yang mengindikasikan munculnya presuposisi eksistensial pada percakapan dalam novel Mendayung Impian karya Reyhan M. Abdurrohman. Penanda-penanda yang sering muncul dalam presuposisi eksistensial adalah penanda nomina, frasa nominal, keterangan waktu, dan keterangan tempat
Bidding Support by the Pocket Negotiator Improves Negotiation Outcomes
No full textThis paper presents the negotiation support mechanisms provided by the Pocket Negotiator (PN) and an elaborate empirical evaluation of the economic decision support (EDS) mechanisms during the bidding phase of negotiations as provided by the PN. Some of these support mechanisms are offered actively, some passively. With passive support we mean that the user only gets that support by clicking a button, whereas active support is provided without prompting. Our results show, that PN improves negotiation outcomes, counters cognitive depletion, and encourages exploration of potential outcomes. We found that the active mechanisms were used more effectively than the passive ones and, overall, the various mechanisms were not used optimally, which opens up new avenues for research. As expected, the participants with higher negotiation skills outperformed the other groups, but still they benefited from PN support. Our experimental results show that people with enough technical skills and with some basic negotiation knowledge will benefit most from PN support. Our results also show that the cognitive depletion effect is reduced by Pocket Negotiator support. The questionnaire taken after the experiment shows that overall the participants found Pocket Negotiator easy to interact with, that it made them negotiate more quickly and that it improves their outcome. Metrics for Evaluating Explainable Recommender Systems
No full textRecommender systems aim to support their users by reducing information overload so that they can make better decisions. Recommender systems must be transparent, so users can form mental models about the system’s goals, internal state, and capabilities, that are in line with their actual design. Explanations and transparent behaviour of the system should inspire trust and, ultimately, lead to more persuasive recommendations. Here, explanations convey reasons why a recommendation is given or how the system forms its recommendations. This paper focuses on the question how such claims about effectiveness of explanations can be evaluated. Accordingly, we investigate various models that are used to assess the effects of explanations and recommendations. We discuss objective and subjective measurement and argue that both are needed. We define a set of metrics for measuring the effectiveness of explanations and recommendations. The life and sufi thought of Abd al-Rahim Reyhan
No full textAbdurrahim Reyhan, Erzincan'da yetişmiş, İstanbul'da bulunmuş ve orada vefat ettikten sonra Erzincan Terzi Baba Mezarlığına defnedilmiştir. Kendisi Nakşibendiyye Tarikatı Haldîyye Kolu'nun Teveccüh icazetine sahip önemli bir şahsiyettir. Çağdaş mutasavvıflardan olup tasavvufi anlayışını ortaya çıkmasına vesile olması için böyle bir çalışma hazırlanmıştır. Tezimiz, bir giriş, iki bölüm ve bir sonuçtan oluşmaktadır. Çalışmamıza temel kaynak olarak, Reyhan Efendi'nin başta olmak üzere kaleme alınmış dört ciltlik tasavvuf sohbetleri "Gülden Bülbüllere", "Teveccüh Sohbetleri" ve hayatı hakkında yapılan röportajlardan istifade edilmiştir. Girişte, Abdurrahim Reyhan'nın yaşadığı devrin siyasî, dinî ve tasavvufî ortamı hakkında özetle bir bilgi verildikten sonra kullanılan kaynaklar hakkında kısa bir değerlendirilme yapılmıştır. Birinci bölümde Abdurrahim Reyhan'nın nesebi, gençliği, şahsiyeti, çocukları, hocaları, silsilesi, halifeliği ve vefatı gibi hususlar konu edilmiştir. İkinci bölümde, Abdurrahim Reyhan'nın tasavvufî kavramlara yaklaşımı incelenmeye tahsis edilmiştir. Burada İbadetlere genel bir bakışı ardından seyr u sülûk'la ilgili kavramlardan cihad, sabır, bela, terk, şuğul, teslim, tevazu, takva, vuslat, râbıta, hizmet, cezbe, gaflet, irşat, ruh-nefs, kalp, kabz-bast, aşk, şeyh-mürşit-veli ve teveccüh başlıkları altında ayrı ayrı ele alınmıştır. Kavramların Kur'an ve Sünnette nasıl geçtiği izah edildikten sonra bazı mutasavvıfların bu kavramlara yaklaşımı ile Reyhan Efendi'nin görüşleri incelenerek verilmiştir. Sonuç kısmında ise Abdurrahim Reyhan'nın tasavvuf görüşleri hakkında genel bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır
Abd al-Rahim Reyhan, grew up in Erzincan, and also lived in Istanbul and was buried in Erzincan Terzi Baba Mezarlığı. He is an important figure in the Haldîyye school of the Naqshbandiyya Sect, with a permisson for "Teveccüh". This study has been prepared in order to reveal one of the modern sufists and his understanding of Sufism. This thesis consists of an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion. We benefited for our study as the main source, the four volumes of Reyhan Efendi's Sufi sohbets, wich were written by his students especially of, "Gülden Bülbüller", "Teveccüh Sohbetleri" and interviews about his life. At the introduction, after a summary information about the political, religious and mystical environment of the period where Abd al-Rahim Reyhan lived, there was also a brief evaluation made about the resources wich were used. In the first part were issues related to the subjects such as the purpose, youth, personality, children, teachers, caliphate and death of Abd al-Rahim Reyhan. In the second part, Abd al-Rahim Reyhan's approach to sufi concepts is devoted to analysis. Here, after a general view of his understanding of worshipping and the concepts related with seyr u sülûk are discussed separately. After explaining how the concepts passed in the Qur'an and Sunnah, the views of Reyhan Efendi were given by examining the approach of some other sufis to these subjects. And in the conclusion, a general evaluation has been made about the Sufi views of Abd al-Rahim Reyha
