Pansharpening Techniques: Optimizing the Loss Function for Convolutional Neural Networks
Pansharpening is a traditional image fusion problem where the reference image (or ground truth) is not accessible. Machine-learning-based algorithms designed for this task require an extensive optimization phase of network parameters, which must be performed using unsupervised learning techniques. The learning phase can either rely on a companion problem where ground truth is available, such as by reproducing the task at a lower scale or using a pretext task, or it can use a reference-free cost function. This study focuses on the latter approach, where performance depends not only on the accuracy of the quality measure but also on the mathematical properties of these measures, which may introduce challenges related to computational complexity and optimization. The evaluation of the most recognized no-reference image quality measures led to the proposal of a novel criterion, the Regression-based QNR (RQNR), which has not been previously used. To mitigate computational challenges, an approximate version of the relevant indices was employed, simplifying the optimization of the cost functions. The effectiveness of the proposed cost functions was validated through the reduced-resolution assessment protocol applied to a public dataset (PairMax) containing images of diverse regions of the Earth’s surface
Optical Disk Archive of Line-by-Line IUE images
With the intent to provide a testbed fo the Hubble Space Telescope Archive, the Space Telescope European Coordinating Facility started in October 1987, a project to put the data corresponding to the images of the low resolution spectra of the IUE in an optical disk archive, where
they could be easily accessed by the astronomers who need them. Optical disk storage was selected, and conversion of
data from the NASA-SPEC formatto the FITS-like optical disk format started. We explain in -this paper the criteria fo!lowed, the formats and procedure used, and the way we pian to allow data access and retrieval

Motherhoods: Feminist Solidarity and Fear Rhetoric
As we work to understand and achieve feminist solidarity, we must explore the complex and political experience of motherhood. The language of popular media narrowly defines the experience of motherhood as one that is rooted in fear, perfectionism, and helplessness. This limiting and narrow rhetoric undermines feminist solidarity, pushing the diverse experiences of mothers outside of its scope. As feminists, we must celebrate multiple approaches to motherhood(s) that reject limited ideas about the roles and experiences of women-as-mothers

The procedure was hampered by the presence of endometrial cavity adhesions, obscuring left tubal ostium. By using microscissors the adhesions were progressively lysed. Since the procedure had become very painful, the patient required general anesthesia. Once adhesion lysis was completed, the tubal ostium was well visible. Both devices were then easily introduced into the fallopian tubes. At the end of the procedure, five coils were visible on the right side and five coils on the left side, as recommended. Results: The 3-month hysterosalpingogram follow-up suspected abdominal migration of the left device. Laparoscopy confirmed the device displacement in the left lower abdominal quadrant. Both fallopian tubes and the uterus appeared normal. No signs of perforation were detected. The device was embedded into the omentum, but it was easily removed. Bilateral tubal sterilization was performed by bipolar coagulation. Conclusion: There are only 13 cases, including the present, of Essure abdominal migration in the literature. In most cases, abdominal displacement of the microinsert is asymptomatic and does not induce tissue damage. However, in some cases, it may cause a severe adverse event, requiring major surgery. Therefore, removal of the migrated device should be performed as soon as possible. Moreover, during presterilization counseling, the patient should also be correctly informed about the risk of this rare but relevant complication, as well as about the surgical interventions that could be required to solve it.
