Janosch e a “arte de viver”
Freudian “art of living” is applied here to study German children’s literature author Janosch. The purpose is mainly focused studying this writer from an analytic perspective in Civilisation and Its Discontents by Sigmund Freud. It is selected a corpus of the Germanauthor, where previously is study the concepts of pleasure and displeasure in Freud work. Thus, it is suggested how Janosch works propose a different choice to overcome the discontents against the traditional libidinal economy. The analysis shows how the charactersbuild their own strategies, which allow to speak regarding the “art of living” as an intransitive desire; that jeopardizes traditional logic, a revaluation of the other from solidarity and aradical option for pleasure over culture. The results display a renewed and complex vision of an author of children’s literature. The creation by Janosch questions the values of thecontemporary society and appeals to the reader to review its hierarchies. Kilka uwag o powieści Janoscha z perspektywy imagologicznej
The following article is an attempt to re-read the famous novel Cholonek albo dobry Pan Bóg z gliny by Janosch. Contrary to popular opinions that the novel shows the true image of the Upper Silesia and its residents, the author tries to find a different point of view. The analysis focuses on the auto- and heterostereotypes of the Upper Silesians, the narrative perspective and the aesthetics of the text. The conclusion is that the technics of unreliable narrator, repetition and hyperrealism undermine the realism and question the suggested compatibility of the story with the regional reality
This thesis analyses ironic elements in the text corpus of Janosch's adaptions of the Grimm's Fairy Tales. Chapter 2 suggests various definitions for the term "irony" and examines to what extent it can be distinguished from terms like "sarcasm" or "cynicism". The origins of irony in ancient Greece will be addressed whereby Sokrates's maieutic will play a major role. Furthermore, the importance of irony in literature will be discussed. Chapter 3 deals with Janosch's 54 tales and their relation to the original versions of the Brothers Grimm and gives a detailed biography of the author, which serves as a point of reference in the analysis of the ironic expressions. Chapter 4 first investigates ironic elements from a paratextual viewpoint, before focussing on certain intratextual signals of irony that can be found in the text. Moreover, three tales are examined in detail in respect of innuendo-irony. Especially intertextuality and contextuality are important here and the findings will be compared with the original versions where useful. Janosch's illustrations are dealt with separately in chapter 5, where colour symbolism and depth psychological theories are applied. The pointedly use of colours by the artist resulting in successfully conveying highly complex messages or symbolising the core meaning of a tale testifies to Janosch's genius. Chapter 6 presents psychological studies that prove that children up to the age of six are not able to decode ironic expressions. Also older children need to be provided with clarifying nonverbal signals to fully understand ironic structures. Due to the childlike presentation of Janosch's tales with his colourful illustrations children might enjoy the book, even if they cannot understand the hidden ironic structures. Because of the socio-critical and contemporary historical innuendos and Janosch's unique writing style this book can moreover equally provide an enjoyable reading experience for adultsvorgelegt von Johannes KernGraz, Univ., Dipl.-Arb., 2012Zsfassung in dt. und engl. Deciding the existence of a cherry-picking sequence is hard on two trees
Here we show that deciding whether two rooted binary phylogenetic trees on the same set of taxa permit a cherry-picking sequence, a special type of elimination order on the taxa, is NP-complete. This improves on an earlier result which proved hardness for eight or more trees. Via a known equivalence between cherry-picking sequences and temporal phylogenetic networks, our result proves that it is NP-complete to determine the existence of a temporal phylogenetic network that contains topological embeddings of both trees. The hardness result also greatly strengthens previous inapproximability results for the minimum temporal-hybridization number problem. This is the optimization version of the problem where we wish to construct a temporal phylogenetic network that topologically embeds two given rooted binary phylogenetic trees and that has a minimum number of indegree-2 nodes, which represent events such as hybridization and horizontal gene transfer. We end on a positive note, pointing out that fixed parameter tractability results in this area are likely to ensure the continued relevance of the temporal phylogenetic network model
Male biased sex ratio in the offspring of roe deer
The file "metafor_roe_sex.csv" was used for the meta-analysis regarding the sex ratio of roe deer juveniles. It contains the columns:
Author (author(s) of the publication, Country (country were the study was publised), Location (specific location, in case that the data set contains several different locations the term "divers" is used), Year (year(s) were the sex of roe deer offspring were documented), Pub-Year (Year of publication) , N (number of offspring), N_female (number of female offspring), Sex ratio (primary - P or secondary - S sex ratio), Habitat conditions (F - free ranging, I - Island conditions, C - captive), Proportion female (proportion of female juveniles), Low_95 (lower boundary for the proportion of females using an exact binomial test with a 95% confidence interval), High_95 (upper boundary for the proportion of females using an exact binomial test with a 95% confidence interval), d (effect size), d_se (standard error of the effect size), North (Latitude), East (Longitude)
The file "sex_bw.csv" contains information about roe deer juveniles tacked in Baden-Württemberg. The columns read as: Year (year were the juvenile was tacked), sex (the sex of the juvenile, m- male; f- female), and Hasl (elevation in m)
The file "temp_data_comma_sep.csv" contains the montly mean values for temperature (Temp) and precipitation (NDS) for the months January, February, March, ..., December for the German federal state Baden-Württemberg (Source German Weather Service).
All data sets were used for analysis presented in: Evidence for a male-biased sex ratio in the offspring of a large herbivore: the role of environmental conditions in the sex ratio variation. For the analysis presented in Ecology and Evolution we merged the files "sex_bw.csv" and "temp_data_comma_sep.csv". Afterwards we calculated the standard environmental lapse rate
