Comparing consortial repositories: a model-driven analysis
This study aims to provide a comparative assessment of different repository consortia as a reference to inform future work in the area. A review of the literature was used to identify repository consortia, and their features were compared. Three models of consortial repositories were derived from this comparison, based on their structure and aims. The consortial models were based around either: creating a shared repository for the members, developing a repository software platform or creating a metadata harvesting service to aggregate content. Using case studies of each type of repository consortium, each model was assessed in terms of its particular strengths and weaknesses. These strengths were then compared across the models to enable those considering a consortial repository project to assess which model, or combination of models, would best address their needs and to aid in project planning
Energy gaps and interaction blockade in confined quantum systems
We investigate universal properties of strongly confined particles that turn out to be dramatically different from what is observed for electrons in atoms and molecules. For a large class of harmonically confined systems, such as small quantum dots and optically trapped atoms, many-body particle addition and removal energies, and energy gaps, are accurately obtained from single-particle eigenvalues. Transport blockade phenomena are related to the derivative discontinuity of the exchange-correlation functional. This implies that they occur very generally, with Coulomb blockade being a particular realization of a more general phenomenon. In particular, we predict a van der Waals blockade in cold atom gases in traps

Defining the base configuration for the THeMIS
Käesolevas lõputöös uuris autor võimalust määratlemaks ettevõtte Milrem AS toote THeMIS baaskonfiguratsiooni.
In this thesis, the author explored the possibility of defining the base configuration of the product THeMIS of the company Milrem AS. The author set the goal of the thesis to define a new base configuration for the THeMIS, which would also take into account the sales configuration modules and include the components required for their installation during the early stages of assembly.". The aim was to achieve cost savings in production and to offer the customer a more convenient way to modify their purchased vehicle with additional modules at a later stage.
To achieve this goal, the author established a multi-step process. In the first stage, the author reviewed relevant literature and identified the main issues that needed to be addressed to solve the research problem. The next step was to map the current situation, including both the base configuration and the sales configuration modules. For this purpose, the author gathered information from the company's ERP system, conducted observations in production, and, as a supporting activity, discussed the issue with the production manager, who directed the author to the appropriate internal sources of information. As a result of this activity, the author substantiated the research problem. This led to an overview of the current situation, which served as a basis for further analysis to identify those sales configuration components that would be reasonable to include in the base configuration. As the final step, the author carried out an economic analysis of the proposed solutions for each sales configuration module. The author was able to answer all the research questions posed in the thesis.
As a result, the author proposed two possible solutions: a primary solution and a secondary solution. The primary solution would be a gradual transition to an updated base configuration, module by module, based on the volume of additional modules sold. An immediate and complete change to the base configuration would be economically harmful to the company's production. The secondary solution would be to review the existing design, which could potentially lower the product’s cost price and thereby reduce the break-even point.
The author considers the results and conclusions of the thesis to be good. Unfortunately, the feasibility of the plan is not immediate, but over a longer period, it would certainly be profitable. These changes would reduce the internal workload of the company, make after-sales service more flexible, and improve the public image of Milrem AS in the eyes of customers. This thesis also enables further research in the future, particularly in the direction of the secondary solution proposed by the author
Optimization of Expenses and the Improvement of the Efficiency of the Management of the Distribution Services of HRX AS’s Eastern-Estonian Region
Diplomitöö kirjutamise aluseks on võetud ettevõte HRX AS. This thesis is based on the company HRX AS. Intense competition caused by the excessive amount of transportation enterprises forces companies to optimize their expenses and improve their work efficiency. The aim of this thesis is to discover a solution to help HRX reduce their expenses and improve the efficiency of the transportation service management. In the theoretical part of this thesis, the author discovered important key issues which affect the efficient management of transportation. These are regular services, distribution services (pick-up and delivery) and the terminal. Additionally, the author presented the theoretical basis and the importance of supportive functions which simplify the management of transportation services, such as IT-solutions, customer service and strategical management. The author of this thesis used the case-study research method. To collect the necessary data, the author interviewed the transport manager of HRX, a sub-contractor’s driver, and collected data from the company’s documents. The sources indicated that the company’s biggest problems are the lack of flexibility and high expenses in the Eastern-Estonian service area. The analysis of the current transportation management showed that the expenses are high due to the fact that the company is using two transport vehicles on the route from Tabasalu to the Eastern-Estonian service area and two vehicles on the route from the Eastern-Estonian service area back to Tabasalu. As a result of the analysis, the author developed proposals for the optimization of the expenses and the improvement of the efficiency of the distribution services. The author proposes to start using a local distribution terminal and to carry out regular services, using one vehicle, and carry out local distribution, using two vehicles. As a result of this thesis, the author developed a proposal and compared it to the current transportation service by creating two simulations. One of them compared the expenses and the transportation capacity reserve according to the current amount of clients, the other simulation compared the expenses in the situation of maximum customer service capacity. As a result, the author discovered that with the current amount of clients, it is more profitable for the company to use the current transportation management system. If the company wishes to increase their market share in the Eastern-Estonian service area, the proposal given by the author should be implemented. The author of this thesis is of the opinion that under the circumstances of market growth, HRX AS will be able to optimize their expenses and offer an efficient and flexible transportation service by implementing the given proposal
Training for Entrepreneurship and New Businesses
An important part of governmental industrial policy is to support entrepreneurship and the creation of new businesses through various programmes. These are often organized at regional or local level by support organizations such as innovation centres (at universities), regional development funds and science parks. Earlier studies of business support structures have focused mainly on the ‘demand’ side; that is, on participants' perceptions of the usefulness of taking part in different support programmes. These studies have shown that there is a mismatch between the supply and demand side in business support activities. This paper deals with the supply side's view of organizing support activities for entrepreneurs and new businesses. The author analyses the responses to a questionnaire survey of business support organizations in Sweden. The results show that the support organizations are well aware of the problems the participants have – relating to, among other things, time, educational methods, finance, priorities, and access to information. At the same time, the support organizations disagree with suggestions that they are too theoretical in their teaching, lack experience in the problems of small businesses, offer inflexible programmes, have problems communicating, or lack teaching expertise (in, for example, training programmes). This paper discusses the gap in perception between the suppliers and their market and addresses the policy issues it raises. The implications for training for entrepreneurship and new businesses are also addressed. </jats:p
