(DIPF/Orig.)This article discusses the ecology of time as an integrative perspective of the discourse on Sustainable Development. Dealing with the subject of sustainability in the context of education as and entry point, the ecology of time is founded within socio-/politic-economic, general education and within the didactics of politics. Seven thesis are presented in the end. The author hopes to offer a further well-grounding for Education for Sustainability respectively Global Learning. (DIPF/Orig.
Shaping sustainable work: the importance of time wealth, working from home and trade union education
Against the backdrop of planetary boundaries being exceeded and increasing ecological challenges, this dissertation examines how gainful employment can be organised sustainably and focuses on three approaches: the development of time wealth, the possibility of working from home and trade union education. In the theoretical framework, labour is understood not only as an economic factor of production, but also as a mediating instance between internal and external nature that contributes significantly to socio-ecological transformation.
Three inter- and transdisciplinary research projects integrate a variety of empirical approaches: A representative survey records the influence of potential time rebound effects on subjectively perceived time wealth and sustainable consumption. A discrete-continuous choice experiment analyses how different home office regulations influence the choice of work location and the resulting CO₂ emissions. In addition, qualitative interviews and the evaluation of educational formats are used to investigate the role of trade union education programmes as a space for transformative learning processes in the work context.
The results suggest that time rebound effects can reduce time wealth and that targeted working time policy innovations, such as different home office models, can contribute to CO₂ reduction. At the same time, it shows that trade union educational work as a collective learning space can effectively contribute to initiating transformative learning processes in the labour context. The dissertation thus makes an interdisciplinary contribution to socio-ecological labour research and offers practical recommendations for shaping a sustainable, future-proof world of work.BMBF, O1UT1708A, Zeit-Rebound, Zeitwohlstand und Nachhaltiger Konsum (ReZeitKon
The concept of time in environmental education. A replique to Helmut Heid and Gerd-Jan Krol
(DIPF/Orig.)The article is written in response to two contributions by Heid (1/92) and Krol (4/93) published in this Journal. Both agree on the fact that environmental [education] has to be backed up by a theory of society. Their approaches, however, counter this intention in that they refrain from linking their analyses to other lines of discourse and, furthermore, Krol\u27s approach is not pluralistic enough. The author sketches a paradigm which would be broad enough to cover all object areas relevant to a well-grounded pedagogy of environment. This paradigm links the basic idea of ecology, i.e., an economical use of resources, with insights on time scales and rhythms. On this basis, a pedagogy of "taking one\u27s time" is demanded: time in a methodological sense as the individual time rhythm of a learner and as a contextual category regarding the systematic view of the past, the present, and the future relationship between nature and society. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
