Get PDFDTU Bibliotek markerer sit 75-års jubilæum med bl.a. dette jubilæumsskrift, med en udstilling, en film og et event den 23. november 2017. Hovedparten af materialerne findes for eftertiden på bibliotekets hjemmeside: www.bibliotek.dtu.dk Ved tidligere jubilæer blev der udgivet fine, trykte jubilæumsbøger. I vores digitale tidsalder har vi valgt et elektronisk jubilæumsskrift. Det knytter smukt an til den generelle digitale transformation, som er kendetegnende for de seneste 25 år af DTU Biblioteks historie. Jubilæumsskriftet er i sin stil kortere og lettere end dens trykte forgængere. Fokus er, hvor DTU Bibliotek er nu, og hvor vi bevæger os hen. Dette med behørig hensyntagen til historien, som indgår i et af temaerne. De øvrige temaer er nedslag på centrale punkter gennem de seneste 25 år, skrevet af en freelance journalist, Rasmus Højmark Ravn, på baggrund af interviews med nøglepersoner, med tilknytning til DTU Bibliotek.Fortællingen om DTU Bibliotek starter med et bibliotek, der i sit udgangspunkt har rødder tilbage til etableringen af Den polytekniske Læreanstalt, nu DTU, i 1829. Et samlet teknisk bibliotek blev først skabt i 1942 ved en fusion mellem Teknisk bibliotek og Industriforeningens bibliotek. Ved indvielsen af dette nye bibliotek i 1942 var der en markant restriktion for de studerende, som ikke måtte læse medbragte bøger i bibliotekets læsesal. Virkeligheden anno 2017 ser heldigvis anderledes ud. I dag er de studerende velkomne til både at læse medbragte bøger, bruge deres egen computer, arbejde i grupper, tale sammen, spise og drikke efter behov etc. Nutiden adskiller sig bl.a. fra fortiden ved, at bibliotekssalen ikke længere er udsmykket med forbudsskilte, at møblementet indbyder til både afslapning og hygge.I dag kaldes biblioteket et ”Smart bibliotek”, fordi teknologiens muligheder finder fuld anvendelse for både DTU’s forskere og studerende. Dette falder i tråd med 1990’ernes spirende digitale udvikling, som netop var lige så revolutionerende som det smarte bibliotek er i dag. Således kan DTU Bibliotek bryste sig af at være vejen til viden og innovation.Den teknologiske udvikling har også ført til et paradigmeskift i relationen mellem bibliotekarer på den ene side og forskere og studerende på den anden side. Et skift fra en datidig ”andægtighed” til en nutidig ”ligefremhed”. Et moderne søgesystem betyder, at den studerende og forskeren kan finde megen litteratur selv. I stedet bruger de bibliotekaren til mere specifikke og komplicerede problemstillinger.I fremtiden kommer DTU Bibliotek til at bevæge sig længere og længere ind i kernen af undervisningen og forskningen på DTU. Biblioteket engagerer sig både i nye undervisningsformer som co-creation og yder en betragtelig indsats på hele Open Science området. Her kræver Open Access og forskningsdatamanagement nye og forandrede indsatser, som DTU Bibliotek allerede har taget hul på. Fremtiden banker på, og DTU Bibliotek vil fortsat være et førende brugerfokuseret og innovativt forskningsbibliotek, som understøtter DTU’s forskning, uddannelse og samarbejde. DTU Bibliotek har gennem historien vist sig klar til at gribe forandringer og tage udfordringer op; det gør vi også de kommende 25 år.Amongst other things, DTU Library marks its 75th jubilee with this jubilee publication, an exhibition, a film and an event on 23 November 2017. In our digital times, we have chosen to issue an electronic jubilee publication. It seems appropriate to the general digital trans-formation which marks the past 25 years of DTU Library’s history.This jubilee publication is briefer and lighter in style than its printed predecessors.Focus is on where DTU Library stands today and in what direction we are moving. This with due regard to the history, which is included as one of the themes. The other themes are probes into central issues over the past 25 years, written by freelance journalist Rasmus Højmark Ravn based on interviews with key persons associated with DTU Library.The story about DTU Library begins with a library whose roots go back to the establishment of The Polytechnic College, now DTU, in 1829. In 1942, a fusion took place between Technical Library and the library of the Industrial Association. At the inauguration of this new library in 1942, there were significant restrictions for the students, who were not even allowed to read their own books in the library’s reading room.Today, in 2017, the reality fortunately looks quite differently. Today, students are encouraged to bring their own books, use their own computer, work in groups, chat to each other, eat and drink as they wish etc. The present time differs from the past as the library hall is no longer adorned with prohibition signs and the furniture is comfortable and creates an atmosphere of relaxation and “hygge”Today, the library is called a “Smart library” because DTU’s researchers as well as students are able, fully, to take advantage of the technological possibilities. This is in keeping with the budding digital development in the 1990s, which was exactly as revolutionary as the smart library is today. Thus, DTU Library can proudly claim to be the path to knowledge and innovation.The technological development has also brought about a change of paradigm in the relation between libraries on the one hand and researchers and students on the other. A shift from a former “awe” to a present “straightforwardness”. A modern search system means that the student and the researcher can find much literature by themselves. Instead, they use the librarian for more specific and complicated problems.In future, DTU Library will be moving further and further into the core of teaching and research at DTU. The library involves itself in new forms of education, such as co-creation, and makes a serious effort in the Open Science area. Open Access and research data management require new and different efforts, which DTU Library has already begun to tackle.The future is already knocking on our doors, and DTU Library will continue to be a leading user-focused and innovative library which supports DTU’s research, education and cooperation. Throughout its history, DTU Library has proved to be ready to grasp changes and meet challenges; and we will continue to do so over the coming 25 years.<br/
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
