Thursday, September 27, 2012
Georgia Law regrets to announce the passing of Law School Association Professor of Law Emeritus John Bartow Rees Jr., who served as a faculty member at the law school from 1959 to 2002. In addition to his role as a professor, Rees also served as assistant dean from 1964 to 1969, led the facilities committee that oversaw the design and construction of the law school\u27s 1967 expansion and generously endowed the John B. Rees Jr. Law Library Book Fund. This highly respected scholar and friend passed away on Sept. 26. He is survived by his wife Elinor, who lives in Athens, Ga., as well as by his five children, four grandchildren and two brothers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Law Library Book Fund in Rees\u27s honor.

Rees Park Marker, Americus GA
Rees Park Marker, Americus GA.
This marker is located on Elm Ave at entrance to Rees Park, Americus, Sumter County, GA.
The text on the marker reads as :
Dr. Albert Rees, a pioneer local physician, deeded the land for this park to the citizens of Americus in 1846. Two decades later, following the battlefield death of his son Lt. Lucius Gibson Rees, C.S.A. (1841-1864) near Petersburg, Virginia, this park was set aside as a permanent memorial. Lt. Rees, a member of Co. A, 11th Georgia Artillery of the Army of Northern Virginia, known as the Sumter Flying Artillery, participated in many of the major battles of the War Between the States, under the overall command of Gen. Robert  E. Lee. Against horrendous odds, an enslaved family servant, who accompanied him to war, single-handedly returned his body to his grieving family here in Americus for burial in nearby Oak Grove Cemetery.https://digitalcommons.unf.edu/historical_architecture_main/4699/thumbnail.jp
