    Recursos tecnológicos e geometria plana na revitalização de um ambiente hospitalar

    A presente dissertação aborda a utilização dos softwares Sweet Home 3D, Apprenti Géomètre 2, a plataforma PhET Interactives Simulations e uma sala de espera de um hospital para a construção de conhecimentos geométricos. O problema que fundamentou essa pesquisa foi: Como a utilização de uma proposta de intervenção pedagógica utilizando os softwares educacionais Sweet Home 3D, Apprenti Géomètre 2 e Phet Interactive Simulations e a revitalização de uma sala de espera da UTI Neonatal e Pediátrica de um hospital pode contribuir na aprendizagem de conceitos geométricos, especialmente perímetro e área, em uma turma do 8o ano do Ensino Fundamental? O estudo foi realizado em uma instituição de ensino privada do município de Santa Cruz do Sul, com o público de 37 estudantes do 8o ano do Ensino Fundamental. Os objetivos específicos, que fundamentaram o estudo foram: desenvolver uma proposta de intervenção pedagógica utilizando softwares e a sala de espera da UTI Neonatal e Pediátrica de um hospital para a exploração de conteúdos geométricos; construir uma proposta de revitalização da sala de espera da UTI Neonatal e Pediátrica, com a finalidade de melhor atender a comunidade; identificar quais evidências de aprendizagem surgiram no decorrer das atividades propostas quanto aos conteúdos geométricos, em particular área e perímetro. A pesquisa possui natureza qualitativa. Para coleta de dados foram utilizados: vídeos, gravações, fotos, registros no diário de campo, softwares e atividades realizadas com os alunos para verificação de medidas da sala de espera e cálculo de área e perímetro. Na análise de dados, foi identificado indícios de aprendizagem de área e perímetro com a utilização de softwares e o espaço do hospital, tendo em vista os resultados apresentados pelos estudantes. Os aprendizes participantes se mostraram engajados, motivados e predispostos a trabalhar as atividades propostas. Após a realização das atividades, percebeu-se uma melhoria significativa na motivação dos alunos pela aprendizagem, os quais, após a experiência, mostraram-se mais críticos, elaborando questionamentos e trazendo para a sala de aula situações de seu cotidiano. Também durante o processo de instrumentação, notou-se que os estudantes apresentaram diferentes esquemas de utilização, para a resolução de uma mesma tarefa, que permitiu observar uma diversidade de procedimentos utilizados por meio das diferentes ferramentas presentes nos menus de cada software e que são pertinentes para o trabalho com área e perímetro. Por fim, conclui-se que o envolvimento dos alunos com a construção da proposta da sala de espera e a utilização de softwares foi importante para o processo de abstração dos conceitos de área e perímetro. Desta maneira, os resultados analisados sinalizam que o uso de softwares pode apresentar-se como um recurso potencializador no ensino dos conteúdos, e ainda no reconhecimento das representações geométricas intrínsecas nesta área da Matemática.The present dissertation addresses the use of the Sweet Home 3D software, Apprenti Géomètre 2, the PhET Interactives Simulations platform and a hospital’s waiting room for geometric knowledge construction. The problem that based this research was: How the use of a pedagogical intervention proposal using the educational software Sweet Home 3D, Apprenti Géomètre 2 and Phet Interactive Simulations and a hospital’s Neonatal and Pediatric ICU waiting room revitalization can contribute in the learning of geometric concepts, especially perimeter and area, in an Elementary School’s 8th grade? The study was carried out in a private educational institution of the Municipality of Santa Cruz do Sul, with 37 students from the 8th grade of Elementary School. The specific objectives of the study were: to develop a pedagogical intervention proposal using softwares and a hospital’s Neonatal and Pediatric ICU waiting room for the exploration of geometric contents; to build a proposal to revitalize the Neonatal and Pediatric ICU waiting room, in order to better serve the community; to identify which learning evidences appeared in the course of the proposed activities regarding the geometric contents, in particular area and perimeter. The research has qualitative nature. Videos, recordings, photos, field diary records, softwares and activities performed with the students to verify the waiting room dimensions and area and perimeter calculation were used as data collection. Taking into consideration the results presented by the students, evidences of area and perimeter learning with the use of softwares and the hospital’s space were detected in the data analysis. The participating learners were committed, driven and inclined to work on the proposed activities. After carrying out the activities, it was observed a significant improvement in the students' motivation for learning, who, after the experience, showed themselves to be more critical, elaborating questions and bringing to the classroom situations of their daily life. Also during the instrumentation process, it was noticed that different ways to solve the same task were presented by the students, which allowed to observe a variety of procedures used through different tools presented in each software menu and which are pertinent for working with area and perimeter. Finally, it was concluded that the students' involvement with the waiting room construction and the use of softwares were important for the concepts of area and perimeter’s analysis process. In this way, the analyzed results indicate that the use of softwares can be introduced as a potential resource in contents teaching, and also in the recognition of the intrinsic geometric representations in this area of Mathematics

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
