Local well-posedness and wave breaking results for periodic solutions of a shallow water equation for waves of moderate amplitude

We use an approach proposed by Kato which is based on semigroup theory for quasi-linear equations. basically means the verbalisation of a visual object, and it has become a literary tool
in time. Since the description of Achilles‘ shield in Homer‘s İlliad, ekphrasis has
been a frequently used literary practice which writers, historians, art critics apply.
Ekphrasis can be applied as the description of visual art objects through the fictional
forms such as poetry and novel as well as it occurs in the prose concerning history,
art criticism and travelogues; it is studied in order to analyse writer's handling with
the description of the object. Ekphrasis studies enable to capture the writer's
relationship between objectivity and subjectivity, the elements of his/her expressed
subjectivity, through literary tools. This study will examine Evliyâ Çelebi's
"ekphrastic" approach in describing mosques, churches and monasteries, paintings
and sculptures in Seyahatnâme (The Book of Travels), especially focusing on how
the subjective factors determining the writer‘s aesthetic appreciation occur in his
literary practice. What kind of a fictive language does ekphrasis, which is essentially
the act of making the silent image talk, show in Evliyâ Çelebi's representation? What
are the characters of the new images created by this language, which is independent
from the original objects, in other sense the images which Evliyâ created on his own
way? How does the reflection of personal taste and cultural positioning affect
aesthetic view of Evliyâ Çelebi‘s "ekphrastic" narrative? This questioning aims to
observe how the aesthetic view of Seyahatnâme's author takes shape and to be a
model of an approach to put forth the new literary qualities of Seyahatnâme's in the
light of ekphrasis study. The problem of "ekphrasis" enables Seyahatnâme which has
been already a study topic for various social sciences, to be evaluated in the
discipline of fiction more widely. As the issue concerns basically the relationship
between visuality and writing, it would bring a new interdisciplinary approach to

Management of acute renal colic in the UK: A questionnaire survey
Background
There is great variation in the Accident and Emergency workload and location of Urology services in UK hospitals. This study investigated the relationship of the initial management of acute renal colic with the department workload plus local facilities including location of X-ray and urology services in UK Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments.
Methods
A&E departments in each of the 11 UK Deanery regions were stratified based on departmental workload, namely <30,000 (small); 30,000 to 50,000 (medium); 50,000 to 80,000 (large) and >80,000 (very large) patients per year. One third of departments were selected in each group leading to a sample size of 106. A questionnaire was administered. Associations between categorical variables were investigated using the chi-squared test and when not valid, Fisher's Exact test was employed. Differences between groups in ordinal variables were investigated using the Mann-Whitney test.
Results
All questionnaires were returned. Twenty-nine units (27.4%) did not perform any radiological investigation on renal colic patients. The number of radiological investigations that were available to departments was associated with workload (P = 0.003); with 57.1% of the small departments performing none and at least 82.8% of units in the other categories performing at least one. Of those departments with X-ray facilities in or adjacent to the department, 63% performed an intravenous urography (IVU) compared to 25% of those departments without (P = 0.026). Of those departments with on-site urology services, 86% performed at least one radiological investigation compared to 52% of units without such services (P = 0.001). Department workload was associated with the first choice analgesia (NSAIDs or parenteral opiates) (P = 0.011). Of the small departments, 64.3% used NSAIDs, 21.4% used parenteral opiates and 14.3% used neither. In comparison, NSAIDS were used by at least 87%, and opiates by at most 12.5% of units in each of the other three categories of department workload.
Conclusions
Over a quarter of UK A&E departments did not perform any radiological investigations and some departments do not even offer renal colic patients any analgesia. Patient management was associated with departmental workload, location of X-ray and Urology services. National guidelines are needed to ensure optimum care for all patients

Multiplayer game frameworks for crowd-aware co-design of environment
This paper proposes two frameworks in the field of Games in Research. • Proposal1 Architectural design decisions stand to benefit by accounting for the presence and activities of human crowds that inhabit these spaces. Computational methods for simulating synthetic crowds provide a cost-effective means of exploring and analyzing the design search space. However, the crowd-aware architectural design is a complicated combinatorial decision process, where small changes in the design solution may affect crowds and their flow patterns in unexpected and potentially unintuitive ways. Existing solutions rely on expert intuition or automation, but are unable to account for much contradicting, and often subjective properties while optimizing designs. A single solution approach may also miss potential design solutions that achieve the desired objective specifications while meetingsubjectivecriteria. Weproposeameansofcombiningthesemethodsinagamified framework. Using our system, “players" (novice users or experts) can rapidly iterate on their designs while soliciting feedback from computer simulations of crowd movement, as well as the designs of previous players. Our approach affords a new way of thinking of the solution space in that it inherently supports competitive co-design and crowdsourced solutions. We evaluate our framework through a user study and demonstrate the potential ii of crowd-aware co-design of environments using simulation guided multiplayer games. • Proposal2 Games in research is a modern trend in the world of research. Games are being used to simulate, monitor and test occurrences in reality. However, Game development knowledge is the initial requirement to use games in research either in any non-technical or technical field. Besides, availability of existing games suited to research is very meager. Also, attracting and reaching out to enough users for proper user study is a difficult task. We propose a connected real-time website and desktop-based game application. The website is themed as a social network which will help connect researchers with gamers and keep them updated. Our application also allows a researcher to choose and modify a few configuration parameters to change the game according to his requirement as well as dedicated ownership to the collected data. Studies on rearing performances of mulberry silkworm (Bombyx mori Linnaeus, 1758) in hooghly district of West Bengal (India): A newly explored area

Exploration of four breeds of mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori (Linnaeus, 1758), popular in West Bengal (viz., two multivoltine breeds – Nistari Plain and Nistari Marked, One Bivoltine breed – SK6 X SK7 hybrid and one F1 Hybrid from cross between Nistari Plain and SK6 X SK7 hybrid) have been conducted in the Sericulture Research Laboratory, Post Graduate department of Zoology, Hooghly Mohsin College, Chinsurah, Hooghly, West Bengal, India, for three consecutive years (2016-2019) for various rearing parameters (viz., larval duration, matured larval weight, cocoon weight, shell weight, shell ratio , effective rate of rearing , absolute silk content and yield) along with common meteorological data (viz., average temperature, average relative humidity, photoperiod). The study reveals Hooghly district to be very conducive for mulberry sericulture with the multivoltine breeds to be most suitable, although rearing of F1 hybrid and bivoltine breeds should also be promoted for their better economic value. Among the seasons, late Autumn (Oct.-Nov.) and early Spring (Feb.-Mar.) are found to be most suitable commercial rearing seasons for almost all the breeds, whereas the extended summer months including Spring, Summer and rainy season (Mar.-Aug.) are unfavourable, indicating deleterious effect of temperature and humidity on the rearing performance of these breeds, for which remedies such as sub-lethal heat shock can be explored.Keywords: Silkworm rearing, cocoon weight, absolute silk content, yield, effective rate of rearing, commercial rearing seasonReferencesCHANDAN, R., SANCHARI, R. Why Are Students Not Engaging In Online Learning? A Lecturer’s Reflection
The poster is a reflective account of practice on the author’s experiences of student engagement within online learning during Semester One of the 2020/21 academic year (September to December 2020). This was the first semester many universities prepared for a fully online semester, as opposed to the quick transition to online teaching experienced in the first UK lockdown of March 2020.
The learning and teaching practices used this semester were based on practices developed for transactional distance. Despite these adoptions, the author experienced a lack of student engagement with online learning. Student engagement is viewed as an integral part of the learning process. Further, online learning is likely to remain a core component as universities move towards hybrid teaching and learning practices post-pandemic. Thus, a better understanding of student engagement in an online learning context is needed. This will enable universities to develop curriculum design and learning and teaching approaches better suited to online and hybrid learning.
Accordingly, the author reflected on the issues impacting upon student engagement and established three key problem areas, which were related to curriculum design and learning and teaching approaches. These problem areas will be examined in the poster and the author will offer recommendations to overcome these challenges.</p
Interactive Model Explanations for Greater Intelligibility
As AI is progressively incorporated into several spheres of society. This rapid growth has also brought a lot of challenges such as discriminating or skewed results and a lack of accountability. To address these challenges, there is a growing interest in Human-AI teams where AI-assisted decision-making includes humans in the loop. This approach has been widely explored to address the issue regarding transparency, reliability, and trustworthiness.However, the essential premise of Human-AI teams in critical applications is that humans must comprehend the reasoning behind an AI system’s decisions. Because of the opaqueness of the AI systems, it has been proved very challenging for humans. The field of explainable AI, is promoted as the link that permits human comprehension of AI systems. A wide range of machine learning explainability techniques have been created. However, standalone explanation techniques have been found to have limited success in ensuring a coherent understanding of AI systems. The primary cause is the insufficient interactivity, absence of actionable human feedback, limitation to specific information, and lack of personalization. Other approaches, such as XAI Dashboards that provide users with multiple standalone explanations have been found to cause information overload. Recent studies suggest that an overload of information can lead to suboptimal AI reliance and understanding. Additional studies also show that XAI dashboards because of their limited interactive nature, the information interchange is mostly unidirectional. Further studies pointed out that XAI dashboard may fail due to unidirectional information exchange, which hinders active user exploration. This may result in an incoherent understanding of the AI system.Delivering explanations through conversations (conversational XAI) can be a potential solution to address the research gap. Recent studies have shown that the interactive exchange of information may promote a better understanding and uncertainty awareness of AI systems. Additionally, the ability to selectively answer user-specific queries may help users create a better mental model of the AI system and hence improve appropriate trust and reliance. Finally, the personalized conversation may also help in higher perceived trust and address user information need about AI systems.In this research work, we performed an empirical study (𝑁 = 245) to evaluate the impact of conversational XAI on the understanding, trust and reliance of the AI system. The interface for conversational XAI is built with a rule-based approach. To understand how the impact varies compared to widely adopted alternatives — XAI Dashboard, we compared the understanding, trust, and reliance of AI systems with a between-subjects setup. Additional effects of user-specific personalization of conversational XAI were also studied.Overall, we found that participants with explainer interfaces showed improved trust and reliance compared to the control condition (i.e., no XAI). However, such increased reliance are not necessarily appropriate reliance. The experimental results observed a clear over-reliance on the AI system for participants with XAI. Additionally, no significant difference was observed in user understanding, trust and reliance between XAI dashboard and conversational XAI interface. Our results and findings may provide useful guidelines to future work about conversational XAI interface and XAI-assisted decision-making.Electrical Engineering | Embedded System
State Estimation and Optimal Control for Racing Drones: In search of control algorithms for competing against human pilots
The e-sport of drone-racing involves human pilots to race against time. Recently, drone races have also gone fully-autonomous. As a result, these agile robotic platforms not only pose challenges of flying fast to the participating pilots but also create challenges for the flight control computers. As a result, the concept of autonomous drone racing has gained significant attention from research groups around the world. These races aim to push the boundaries of perception and control algorithms, while simultaneously mitigating the real-world uncertainty of execution on autonomous systems. While perception algorithms face challenges due to limited feature detection, high motion blur and computational requirements, control algorithms face challenges of convergence to the desired trajectories that are planned out in the race arena. This thesis addresses the challenge of control for racing, which is responsible for guiding the drone to design and track desired trajectories for fast flights. The control sub-modules of racing drones are responsible for generating trajectories for fastest possible flights and also for obeying these generated commands. Additionally, the requirement of limited algorithm complexity is added to match the philosophy of computationally efficient algorithms at the Micro Air Vehicle Laboratory. However, to address the requirements of these control sub-modules, the prerequisite of accurate state estimation always persists. Assigning control actions to a robot without information on the current state of the robot is rather unwise. As a result, this thesis first aims to perform accurate state estimation before designing controllers for time-optimal trajectory tracking. Again, another constraint of using only a single sensor (i.e. the Inertial Measurement Unit) is added to make the drone race in GPS denied environments. As a result, the goal of the thesis is two-fold i.e. making accurate state estimators while using limited sensors and designing optimal controllers for taking the quickest trajectory through the arena. To achieve the goal of accurate state estimation, existing techniques are studied. Several features from each of these methods are selected to design a new estimator. To achieve the goal of time-optimal trajectory generation, firstly, the flaws of traditional control methods are pointed out. A new optimal-control technique is proposed, which makes use of fundamental principles dating back several decades. This principle is then fused along with present-day optimization solvers. Finally, the proposed state estimation and control algorithm are compared against prior (benchmarked) techniques in the area.
