Farmer direct selling: the role of regional factors

This paper studies the factors affecting the decision of farmers to sell their products directly to consumers using micro-data on the entire farm population in Italy. The empirical setting of the analysis reflects a focus on the geographical determinants of farmers’ choices as the model is estimated by adopting a multilevel approach and also including spatially lagged variables. The results support the idea that the diffusion of direct sale is a localized process of social innovation, based on knowledge sharing among actors. Policy design should consider the nature of this process in supporting more sustainable forms of supply chain

Direct selling and alternative evolutionary patterns in the Italian agri-food systems

In the last twenty years the study of alternative food networks (AFNs) gained growing attention and many scholars argue that this is part of a deep transformation of our agri-food systems towards sustainability (Goodman, 2003; Sonnino and Marsden, 2006; Tregear, 2011). In this paper, we study the on-farm and regional factors affecting the farmer's choice to partecipate to AFNs in Italy. Differently to previous studies (Aguglia et al., 2011) we use data on the entire farms’ population, in Italy which is available from the Census of Agriculture carried out by Istat (Istituto Nazionale di Statistica) in 2010 (about 1,653,000 farms). The research questions that this paper follows to answer are then: among the whole universe of Italian farms, which are those that started the transition? Which farm and/or farmer characteristics’ increase the probability to operate on AFNs? Which regional context do positively affect the spread among farmers of a direct marketing with consumers? Some preliminary results are presented at the end of the paper

A Joint Study between the University of Bologna and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Codifying, enhancing and communicating academic and university heritage beyond musealisation has become a stimulus for the creation of new knowledge networks, as well as urban and international cultural itineraries, helping to raise awareness of the role the university has played in the evolution of the city and beyond, among authentic and legendary geo-historical elements. In particular, this paper presents a preliminary experimental activity carried out in the academic year 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 within the framework of two geography courses at the University of Bologna and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia with the aim of investigating students’ knowledge of the heritage of their university. The contribution concludes with some preliminary reflections on the evolution of the project due to system variations in response to the complexities linked to the Covid-19 pandemic

Riordino amministrativo e Covid-19: sistema sanitario e contagio in Lombardia

After mentioning the adoption of the law 56/2014, relating to administrative reorganization, and its application in Lombardy, the paper focuses on the dynamics of the relationship between the State and the Regions, with particular regard to the epidemic phenomenon in progress. The contribution illustrates the spread of Covid-19 in the Lombard context, which has been analyzed and shown through the aid of mapping. The organization of the Lombardy regional health system, which proved to be a territorial fragility during the emergency, will then be presented, together with the example of the management of viral spread in the Municipalities of Alzano Lombardo and Nembro, among the first to be affected by the virus and identified as an outbreak in the province of Bergamo

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

In the middle” territories and urban management demand. ;e territorial reorganization in Italy, between reforms (approved or failed) and partial implementation, has been subject of re,ection also in terms of territorial governance for some time. ;e institution of Metropolitan Cities is an administrative reorganization with innovative effects on the spatial planning instrumentation of metropolitan areas, and it deserves three kinds of in-depth analysis: a)"Metropolitan Cities present marked di-erences between them raise a question of relevance/e-ectiveness in the use of a single instrumentation for governing the territory. b)"Provincial areas corresponding to the Metropolitan Cities present situations that require forms of joint government; they contain territories “in the middle” between metropolitan realities and internal areas, which concern dynamic contexts in signi!cant transformation. c)";e selection/delimitation carried out by Law 56/2014 leaves dense urban areas uncovered (i.e. Salerno, Brescia, Bergamo); it poses a complex demand for urban governance, with evident difficulties of coordination between “metro” and “no metro” provinces. ;e objective of this paper is to analyse the urban/metropolitan areas that have remained “uncovered” outlined above, in order to recognize the e-ectiveness of the available planning and territorial governance tools (especially for these areas), and to investigate the usable space for an integration of territorial policies of the metropolitan city with the contiguous “in the middle” territories

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
