    Location Identification of the Individual based on Image Metadata

    AbstractNow-a-days an individual is directly or indirectly attached to many smart devices. One can find his or her whereabouts if we monitor the devices they are using by collecting the metadata of the photos posted by them in the social media. Some social media websites have a feature to post the place of their recent past. To provide a simple Android application, this will be using the feature of Geo tagging available with most of the smart phones. We can use this location based data to track the people based on longitude and latitude of Global positioning system(GPS). We can use this to collect the photos posted by individuals and to analyze them to know their present position. The proposed article verifies the metadata associated with image and track the individual country, city, route and street based on the GPS Altitude, GPS Latitude, GPS Longitude and GPS position

    Āyurveda science has a very scientific methodology for diagnosing disease but the skill to adopt that methodology is vanishing day by day. Though various modern diagnostic techniques are evolved in modern medical science, all of them cannot be directly adopted for diagnosis in Āyurveda. In this article, problems associated with use of modern investigatory techniques for diagnosis of diseases in Āyurveda has been discussed. Physiology and Pathology of Āyurvedaare quite different from that of modern medical science. In diagnosing pathologies associated with anatomical abnormalities, these modern investigatory techniques can be adopted easily but the diagnostic tools based on biochemical changes in body cannot be adopted in Āyurveda unless one has proper understanding of basic principles of Āyurveda

    Studies on Thin Films of Antimony Vacuum Evaporated from a Knudsen-Type Source

    A Knudsen-type evaporation source was used for the deposition of thin films of antimony to study their growth and microstructure under different rates of evaporation and substrate temperatures when vacuum evaporated onto air-cleaved KC1, mica, amorphous carbon and doped KCl substrates. The crystallisation of these films on exposure to an electron beam of moderate intensity inside the electron microscope was studied, and the orientations of the crystallised films wrt the substrate were established. It has been concluded that antimony films prepared by this source compare well with those prepared by other sources of vacuum evaporation

    Implications of Human Resource Practices and Other Structural Factors on Commitment of Public Medical Professionals in India

    In this paper we focus on often neglected issue and inadequately studied area of commitment of public sector health professionals and some of the issues surrounding human resources as its determinants. The paper argues that success or failure of new initiatives in health sector critically hinges on the commitment of the staff. This paper is based on the questionnaire study and focused group discussion of 175 doctors working as district medical officers at district level and holding key administrative positions at state level in four states in India. These four Indian states account for nearly 22 per cent of India’s population. The findings provide some important insights that would be useful in drawing future agenda of strengthening health sector and involving all stakeholders in implementation process. The study finds critical linkage between human resource (HR) practices and commitment of doctors working in the government. Specifically, following HR practices are found critical in influencing organizational commitment: transparency in selection/postings, supportive training and capacity strengthening climate, recognition of performance and regular performance feedback. Further, results suggest that certain work environment and structural factors facilitate these practices. Health officials’ roles need to be redefined and given complexity of coordination at various levels, officials need to be allocated higher responsibilities. There is also a need to improve interpersonal relations within departments and coordination among agencies and officials at various levels. It is also observed that the structural rigidities in the system leading to obstruction in information sharing across various levels needs to be addressed to ensure effective healthcare delivery. This study highlights the criticality of administrative and structural issues for reforms of healthcare sector in India. Addressing human resources issues is critical for ensuring commitment from staff in implementing new initiatives or health reform agenda. National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) also identifies the human resources and capacities as an important challenge. Institutions that are critical vehicles to implement the NHRM would remain weak owing to low commitment of people. It would be important to focus on HR issues before any new initiative is proposed and implemented. The departments of health across states need to broaden and deepen the understanding of HR management and planning issues. For this purpose they may need to set-up HR division having appropriate competency and skill-mix to address the issues and work towards making the right changes. The papers discusses that these changes will be required at both strategic and operational levels.

    Formulation and evaluation of dental gel of Curcuma longa and Phyllanthus emblica loaded Silica nanocomposite as dental plaque inhibitor

    The current research aimed to formulate a dental gel with an antibacterial action against Streptococcus mutans (the predominant cause of dental plaques) and a gel with antiplaque action by dissolution of plaque dextran. Ethanolic extracts of two medicinal plants Phyllanthus emblica and Curcuma longa were prepared and loaded onto silica nanoparticles synthesized from rice husk to obtain a silica-plant extract nanocomposite. The latter was analysed for their antibacterial action against Streptococcus mutans by agar well diffusion methods and plaque dissolution properties by phenol sulphuric acid methods in vitro. Finally, a dental gel with antibacterial and antiplaque effects was formulated using the above plant extracts, silica nanoparticles, and chitosan as key ingredients. The zone of inhibition of different components of the formulated gel indicated that individual components of Curcuma longa, and Phyllanthus emblica gave promising antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans as compared to the chloramphenicol and an increase in antibacterial role was observed in the extract combinations, with silica nanoparticle-loaded extracts giving the best activity. The percentage of dissolution of dextran was found to be higher in the silica-incorporated dental formulation, and the release of dextran was found to increase in a time-dependent manner of 70.321 mg% at 15 minutes. The formulation was noted for its antibacterial, plaque dissolution and ideal gel properties to be a suitable dental gel for plaque control. To our knowledge, this is the first report on a dental formulation gel with both antibacterial and plaque dissolution properties

    Morphological And Molecular Marker Contributions To Disentangling The Cryptic Hermeuptychia Hermes Species Complex (nymphalidae: Satyrinae: Euptychiina)

    The genus Hermeuptychia is common and widespread through the Americas, from Argentina to the southern United States of America. All eight recognized species within Hermeuptychia are small and brown, with very similar interspecific external morphologies and intraspecifically variable ocelli patterns that render taxonomic identification based on morphology difficult. In our study, we surveyed variability within Hermeuptychia, and evaluated species boundaries based on molecular data (sequences of the 'barcode' mitochondrial DNA COI gene) and morphology (mainly male genitalia), using a phylogenetic approach. We found eight DNA-based and 12 morphological groups in our sampling. Species names were assigned based mainly on comparisons with male genitalia morphology descriptions corresponding to name-bearing type specimens. Morphological and DNA variability were highly congruent, with the exception of group H, the Hermeuptychia cucullina complex. Also, the barcode region showed a clear threshold for intra- and interspecific mean distances around 2%. Based on these results, we circumscribe the species boundaries in the genus Hermeuptychia and discuss conflicts between mitochondrial genes and classic morphological approaches for identifying and delimiting species.     Meta-analyses identify 13 loci associated with age at menopause and highlight DNA repair and immune pathways

    To newly identify loci for age at natural menopause, we carried out a meta-analysis of 22 genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in 38,968 women of European descent, with replication in up to 14,435 women. In addition to four known loci, we identified 13 loci newly associated with age at natural menopause (at P < 5 × 10(-8)). Candidate genes located at these newly associated loci include genes implicated in DNA repair (EXO1, HELQ, UIMC1, FAM175A, FANCI, TLK1, POLG and PRIM1) and immune function (IL11, NLRP11 and PRRC2A (also known as BAT2)). Gene-set enrichment pathway analyses using the full GWAS data set identified exoDNase, NF-κB signaling and mitochondrial dysfunction as biological processes related to timing of menopause
