Acculturation Chinese Symbol on Madura Batik Motif
Ong Mia Farao Karsono, Lintu Tulistyantoro
Abstract
This study has two chief purposes. Firstly, to introduce the Madurese Batik from Indonesia which has not yet been widely studied, and secondly, to show the acculturation of the Chinese culture in the motif of Madurese Batik. Research method employed in this study was descriptive qualitative, because our topic involves cultural and humanity sciences. The writers interview batik makers from the towns of Pamekasan, Tanjung Bumi, Sumenep, and Sampang, as research informants. We take two batik makers as representatives of each town. The four towns are selected because those towns are the centers of batik in Madura. To crosscheck the information obtained from the batik makers, also interview two collectors of Madurese batik who have good knowledge of Madurese batik. The data from the interviews and the photographic documentation of Madurese batiks are sorted and then analyzed by relating them to the theories about Madurese culture, acculturation process, and Chinese culture. The discussions and conclusions of the analyses correspond with the hypotheses proposed at the beginning of the study, which states that there are acculturations of the symbols on Madurese Batik motifs, which can be seen in the paintings of phoenix, butterfly, fish, bamboo trees on the batik, and that the acculturation process occurs naturally without conscious knowledge of the Madurese
E-cadherin and Vimentin as Predictors of Resistance to Preoperative Systemic Therapy in Patients with Advanced Breast Cancer
E-cadherin and Vimentin as Predictors of Resistance to Preoperative Systemic Therapy in Patients with Advanced Breast Cancer
Loss of E-cadherin and increased vimentin expression are associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition andcancer stemness which are responsible for treatment resistance. The study aims to evaluate the role of E-cadherin andvimentin as predictors of resistance to preoperative systemic therapy in patients with advanced breast cancer. This wasa cross-sectional analytical study in patients with stage III-IV breast cancer in Dharmais Cancer Hospital and dr. CiptoMangunkusumo National Hospital from July 2015 to April 2016. Patients had biopsy specimens embedded in paraffinblocks. Expressions of E-cadherin and vimentin proteins were done immunohistochemically. Treatment response wasevaluated histopathologically using Miller-Payne criteria on mastectomy specimens. A total of 65 patients were enrolled.Five patients with invasive lobular carcinoma were excluded. Thirty one had chemotherapy and 29 had hormonaltherapy. After treatment, 46 patients were eligible for mastectomy. E-cadherin and vimentin were positive in 28 (60.9%)and 11 (20.3%) of specimens. Twenty-three (50%) patients showed no response. Treatment resistance were associatedwith type of therapy (OR=4.4; 95% CI=1.27-15.41; p=0.017) and vimentin expression (OR=6.75; 95% CI=1.27-30.02;p=0.016). Hormonal therapy (ORadj=6.26; 95%CI=1.59-24.6; p=0.009) and positive vimentin (ORadj=8.75; 95%CI=1.43-57.4; p=0.019) were independent predictors of treatment resistance. In conclusion, E-cadherin and vimentin can beused as predictors of resistance to preoperative systemic therapy in patients with advanced breast cancer

Dialogic Elements of Bakhtin in the Novel Siddhartha
This article analyzes the voices of the characters which are intertwining into dialogic forms. The voices did not demonstrate its own power, but rather let other voices have its own characteristic while remaining there
until the end of the story. For example, Siddharthas parents voices remained a Brahmin . Govinda’s voice remained a Samana . Mikhail Bakhtin called such characteristic dialogue as Internally Persuasive Discourse
.
Apparently this novel is loaded full of Bakhtins carnival behavior, because the composition and the plot of the story, or the position of the author as well as the dialogue, a hallmark of Socratic Dialogue or Menippean Satire
.
Unveiling Bakhtin’s carnival stage, a variety of scandals, eccentric behaviors, ethic violations, sharp contrasts appear. The polyphony nature in this novel is in the form of counterpoint models voices intertwined together without negating each other, similar to the Weltemperklavier by Johan Sebastian Bach in the Baroque music era
CREATING THE OPEN SPACE’S SENSE OF PLACE Case Study: Deli’s Sultanate Area
Creating the open space that possesses sense of place is a creative process which involves user, designer and open space’s management. The open space should be able to accommodate the daily activities, experiences and possess diversity. The open space should be context with the environment, give a special sense and safe for people.
In this paper, ‘creating sense of place’ means to establish and create a ‘place’ which possesses special sense belonging to the site (example: history, culture, tradition, aesthetic value, social, economy, function, climate and physical). It is also important to analyze the sense of the past, the interest of present day and its relation to the future.
The purpose of this paper is to improve and enhance the image of Deli’s Sultanate area which has three significant objects, such as: Maimun Palace, Al Mashun Grand Mosque, and Sri Deli Park. To generate new open space elements and space order that could be a special ‘place’ for the user, author has carried out the identification, analysis, and re-arrangement study of the open space in the site of case study area.

Role of Estrogen Receptor Alpha rs3798577 Polymorphism in Breast Carcinoma Risk Determination
BACKGROUND: Interaction between estrogen and estrogen receptor (ER) takes part in the regulation and differentiation of breast tumorigenesis. Some ERα polymorphisms, including ERα rs3798577, are reported to be associated with the risk and aggressiveness of breast carcinoma since the site was reported to be targeted by microRNA, which can further modulate the ERα expression. Hence, this study was conducted to disclose the possible role of ERα SNP rs3798577 on breast carcinoma patients.
METHODS: Samples were taken from the post-mastectomy breast carcinoma tissues of female patients and screened based on the completeness of medical and histopathological records. DNA isolation was proceeded using real time-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) then analyzed for high resolution melting (HRM). The nucleotide base sequence was then analyzed based on rs3798577 ERα polymorphism. ER immunohistochemistry test was carried out and counted quantitatively based on the staining intensity and the percentage of the stained cells.
RESULTS: Out of 65 samples, there were 33 samples as wild type and 32 samples as variant type. Most variant and wild type had >80% ERα percentage. Most variant type had middle ERα intensity, while wild type had strong ERα intensity. Higher percentage of variant type (52.2%) was found with weak ERα histoscore, meanwhile higher percentage of wild type (52.4%) was found with strong ERα histoscore, but not significant (p=0.725).
CONCLUSION: ERα rs3798577 variant type had a lower ERα intensity and weaker ERα histoscore compared to the wild type, suggesting that ERα rs3798577 polymorphism might play a role in breast carcinoma risk determination
Association of Expression of miR-21, miR-200c and response of Neoadjuvan Systemic Therapy in Patients with Breast Cancer Treatment failure in advanced stage breast cancer has been associated with expression of microRNA e.g. miR-21 and miR-200c. To know the association between response neoadjuvant systemic therapy and the expressions of miR-21 and miR-200c in breast cancer patient, a cross-sectional study has been conducted in Dharmais Cancer Hospital and dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital National (CMHN) from July 2015 to April 2016. Patients had fresh and paraffin-embedded tissues from biopsy specimens and have been treated adequately. MiR-21 and miR-200c were measured using qRT-PCR on fresh tissues. Results were expressed as cycle thresholds difference (ΔCt) against U6 snRNA. Relative expression was calculated as difference of two ΔCt values (ΔΔCt) and fold change (2-ΔΔCt). Treatment response was evaluated histopathologically using Miller-Payne criteria on mastectomy specimens. A total of 60 patients were enrolled, 31 had chemotherapy and 29 had hormonal therapy. After treatment, only 46 patients were eligible for mastectomy. Twenty-three (50%) patients showed no response (Miller-Payne grade 1) after treatment. ΔCt miR-21 and ΔCt miR-200c were not significantly different between responsive and not responsive patients. However, patients with no response showed increased expression of miR-200c (FC=2.375). Based on type of neoadjuvant , in chemotherapy group expression of miR-21 and miR-200c were high(FC=3.67 and 6.16 respectively) but in hormonal group expression miR-21 FC=0.11 and miR-200c FC=1.25). In conclusion, expressions of miR-21 and miR-200c cannot be used to predict treatment response
