Translation Strategies of Offensive Words Stated by The Characters In Deadpool Subtitle From English Into Indonesia
In the world of translation, a translator needs to look carefully at all aspects of the source language before carrying out the translation process, one of them is the offensive language in it. Translating offensive language also requires extensive knowledge of the culture in the source and target language. In addition, offensive language also has its own types and has several strategies in translating it. In this research, the writer analyzes the translation strategy used by the translator in translating offensive words in Deadpool movie. In this study, the author analyzes the types of offensive words by Cabrera (2016), dysphemism, orthophemism, euphemism by Allan and Burridge (2006), and translation strategy by Davoodi (2009). The results show that there are insults, cursing, exclamatory swear word/phrase, and derogatory tone and all four are included in dysphemism. The translator also uses different strategies in each type of offensive word. For insult, cursing, and exclamatory swear word/phrase, the translator mostly uses taboo for taboo strategy, while for derogatory tone, the translator mostly uses applying euphemism strategy. There are some strategies that the author feels are not suitable enough, however, overall the translator is able to deliver the emotion and context of the source language to the target language
A Unit Shift Analysis of Dick’s Dialogues in Famous Five: Five Have Plenty of Fun by Enid Blyton
This study aimed to systematically examine the Unit Shift found in FamousiFive: Five Have Plenty of Fun, especially taken from Dick’s dialogue. This study contributes to the advancement of translation science by providing valuable insights also strengthening the understanding of unit shift translation for both readers and the author themselves. This research gives a description in translating the unit shifts, so it is expected to be very helpful for many students, especially for students interested in studying more about unit shifts in translation. The method of this research is qualitative-descriptive. This research uses Catford's classical theory about translation shift to find and describe the Unit Shift. All the data would be included in the comparative table to make it easier to compare the changes from source text (ST) to target text (TT). The researcher concludes that from 24 data in total, 21 data are accurate and well-done translated as no meanings are reduced nor omitted in the target language Bahasa Indonesia. Meanwhile, the other 3 are less accurate because of reducing even changing the meaning and the researcher gives suggestions for the closest possible equivalents
The Effectiveness of Translating Figurative Language from English into Indonesia in the Book ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul; Answered Prayers’
The problem of translating figurative language: idiom, to the target language is not major but if it is not paid attention well enough, it can mislead readers on what the author’s messages. Small problem or mistake are often being ignored, when the reader understand what they are reading. In the book “Chicken Soup for the Soul: doa - doa yang terkabul” wrote lots of inspiring stories that based on true stories every time they released it. All the stories that the author wrote are all from people who like to share their experience with others and not some fictional stories that are just made up. This research aims to show what kind of idioms and phrases that had been used in a translation book. The book that the writer use is a non-fiction universal, it is not overtly Christian except for the ones that are. The methods that the writer will use are usually library research. The theory behind this project is that the writer will use the same approach for the book. The data that is used is in form of a sentence and phrase from 10 chapters of Chicken Soup for the Soul: doa - doa yang terkabul. The idiom that is the writer going to be using is from both of the books and language. Furthermore the translated idioms will be correct based on eight translation strategies by Mona Baker. To see how the idiom had been translated and if it suits the other language so that can be understand by the reader of that language. Authors usually write about people who are like them. By having such minor mistakes, they want to make sure that their readers can easily understand their work
The Translation Procedure of Culture Words from Indonesian Into English in "The Years of the Voiceless": The Translated Version of Madasari's Entrok
Pramesti, Hapriliana. “The Translation Procedures of Culture Words from Indonesian into English in “The Years of the Voiceless: The Translated Version of Madasari’s Entrok.” Salatiga: Translation Study Major. Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, Salatiga.
Language is such a vital instrument in our daily life. In the scope of literary translation, there are many kinds of literary products included; poetry, manuscripts, and novels that have been translated into other languages. This phenomenon caused the translation process to become quite challenging since the translator should consider various actions before deciding the translation of the source language since it will also deal with the cultural differences between the two different countries, especially when it comes to a novel translation. this research aims to analyze the translation of culture words in a novel entitled ‘Entrok’ which was originally written by an Indonesian author named Okky Madasari and is translated into English by Nurhayat Indriyatno Mohamed in its English version novel entitled “The Years of The Voiceless” This research is classified into qualitative research. Data on this research is collected through a close reading performed by the researcher. The finding of this study resulted in 893 datums of culture words and the 76 of the data is displayed as a comparison as well as some of them are being discussed to its translation procedure based on the Newmark’s Theory
Layered V-B-O polyoxometalate nets linked by diethylenetriamine complexes with dangling amine groups
Two layered V-B-O contained polyoxometalate (POM) net structures, denoted as SUT-12 and SUT-13, are reported here. SUT-12 was synthesized by the boric acid flux method, and it represents the first 2D structure constructed from the V6B20 vanadoborate cluster. SUT-13 was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and constructed from V12B6P12 vanadium borophosphate clusters. In both structures, the vanadoborate or vanadium borophosphate clusters were linked through in situ formed Zn(DETA)(2) or Cu(DETA)(2) complexes. Surprisingly, for all DETA molecules in the two metal complexes, there is one dangling amine group when it is coordinated to the metal. The phenomenon of the dangling amine group feature is abnormal and the Cu(DETA)(2) complexes in SUT-13 were taken as an example and studied by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations in order to understand this unusual feature.Chemistry, Inorganic & NuclearSCI(E)[email protected]; [email protected]
Effect of the curing agent DETA and its interaction with a rare earth carboxylate as corrosion inhibitor in a hybrid silica-epoxy formulation
Publisher Copyright: © The Author(s) 2024.Sol–gel based coatings are used to protect metals from corrosion. They offer a barrier to the electrolyte penetration, but they do not provide active corrosion protection. Therefore, corrosion inhibitors are often added to sol–gel formulations to improve the overall corrosion behavior. Sol–gel-based coatings typically require relatively high temperatures to be properly cured, which supposes high energy consumptions and might damage some of the precursors of the formulation, including corrosion inhibitors incorporated to improve the coating’s properties. In this study, the effect of diethylenetriamine (DETA) as a curing agent, and yttrium 4-hydroxy cinnamate [Y-(4OHCin)3] as corrosion inhibitor, on the chemistry and corrosion performance of a hybrid silica-epoxy formulation are investigated. Solid nuclear magnetic resonance and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy are carried out to analyze the influence of the curing agent and the corrosion inhibitor on the chemical structure of the coating. The corrosion performance is assessed by means of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and the results are evaluated considering the chemical study and the interaction between the different compounds.Peer reviewe
Removal of Cd (II) by polystyrene-base chelating resins: adsorption properties and experiences of industrial wastewater treatment
This study involved the adsorption removal of Cd (II) by "green" chelating PS-DETA resins and its application in a column mode for industrial wastewater treatment. An initial factorial design of experiments showed that factors such as pH of the solution, agitation speed, and contact time were important. Competing adsorption of Cd (II) and Zn (II) onto the PS-DETA resins in binary system showed that the adsorption affinity may be in the following order: Cd (II)>> Zn (II). The adsorption kinetics for Cd (II) was found to follow pseudo-second-order reaction. Isotherm studies conducted at 5-500 mg/g of initial Cd (II) concentrations provided the maximum adsorption capacities of 92.1 mg/g for the PS-DETA resins. The Langmuir isotherm model was found to describe adsorption well indicating the monolayer adsorption process. It was evident from results of the desorption studies that desorption efficiency larger than 99.6% could be obtained for Zn (II) and Cd (II) with 0.1 M HCl or HNO3. Data from a column study using PS-DETA resins for Cd (II) and Zn (II) from industrial wastewater showed that after approximately 760 BV, removal of Cd (II) achieved 50%. Hence, it was concluded that it was effective to remove Cd (II) from industrial wastewater with the column operation although the adsorption capacity of the PS-DETA resins for Cd (II) and Zn (II) was found to be less than the adsorption capacity obtained in the batch study.Engineering, ChemicalWater ResourcesSCI(E)[email protected]
