Some Lines of Philosophy of History in Arendt-Jaspers Dialogue
In my speech I discuss some lines of the philosophy of history in the dialogue between Arendt and Jaspers. I discuss the following themes which allow us to recognize a small philosophy of history in Arendt and Jaspers. The themes are: historical judgment, independent thought, universal history, and the politics of citizenship
Hannah Arendt, "Humanitas mundi. Scritti su Karl Jaspers"
"It's like coming home": this is what Hannah Arendt felt every time she visited Karl Jaspers in Basel on her returns to Europe. First a bond of discipleship, then an intellectual fellowship, and finally a profound friendship: these are the stages of a unique human and spiritual encounter that lasted more than forty years and was sometimes tested by bitter controversies, such as those on the "German essence" in the 1930s and on the "question of guilt" in the 1940s. Expression of this singular philosophical friendship between a man and a woman, even before that between two great personalities of the 20th century thought, are the three contributions by Arendt dedicated to Jaspers, presented here for the first time to the Italian public: "Jaspers, citizen of the world?" (1957), which proposes a reading of Jaspers' universal history from a cosmopolitan point of view; "The Future of Germany" (1967), in which Arendt, in the wake of Jaspers, denounces the risks of post-war German democracy; and finally "Jaspers at eighty-five" (1968), a touching portrait of the philosopher a year before his death, from which two vibrant Arendtian testimonies emerge on the exemplary virtues of "fidelity" and "gratitude"
The current text aims at explaining Karl Jaspers' existential freedom. Although freedom has always been a widely discussed topic in the philosophical tradition, Jaspers' perspective has gone almost unnoticed
in recent decades, this situation is proved by the absence of bibliography on the subject, both in spanish, english and german. Additionally, there have been interpretations of the subject that do not seem to match
Jaspers' thinking, so it seems really important to review Jaspers' perspective and try to clarify what he understands by existential freedom. Having these claims in mind, the monographic text deals with
explaining the subject in the most detailed way possible, with the purpose of clarifying the understanding about it and elaborating a series of objections to the interpretations from two authors in regards to
central aspects of existential freedom.Índice.

Responsibility for Future Generations: Karl Jaspers and Nuclear Technology
In his treatments on the atomic bomb, Karl Jaspers identified new dimensions for the concept of responsibility by relating it to the issue of the new weaponry. The paper discusses what meanings it implies for Jaspers by acknowledging the discourses on the nuclear technology of the nineteen fifties, the etymology and conceptual history of responsibility, the notion of responsibility within politics and international relations. The presentation rounds up by indicating the long-term dimensions of responsibility as presented by two philosophers who beside atomic bombs also stress environmental threats, and by underlining present timeliness och the concept
«Un doloroso ingorgo della storia europea». Croce, Jaspers e la «questione tedesca»
This paper aims to analyze Croce’s references to Jaspers by following a few main directions: the framework of the so-called “German question,” in which Jaspers’ guilt question is examined; the definition of historicism, in which Croce shows his distance from Jaspers’ Universal History
Jaspers and neuroscience
In this chapter, Jaspers' views on neuroscience and its relationship to psychopathology are described. Firstly, there will is a brief historical discussion of neuroscience and its place in the first biological psychiatry of the late nineteenth century, showing how Jaspers' concerns fit into wider worries of his near contemporaries around 'brain mythology'. Secondly, the chapter offers a detailed exegesis of Jaspers' views on the psyche and neuroscience in the translated 1959 edition of General Psychopathology, including his views on the unity of the psyche and soma and the importance of both psychopathology and neurology as modes of investigation in psychiatry. Thirdly, a brief survey of Jaspers later general views on science and pluralism is presented. The chapter argues that Jaspers is not by any means opposed to a neuroscientific approach in psychiatry, but rather criticises the view that neuroscience is the only means to study mental disorder.</p
Gesinnung bei Kant und Existenz bei Jaspers
The purpose of this article is to analyze the meaning and function of the concept "Gesinnung" in Immanuel Kant's philosophy and to compare it with one of Karl Jaspers' key philosophical terms, "Existenz." In the first part, the author clarifies the meaning of "Gesinnung" alongside concepts such as "Augenblick" and "Entscheidung." This is followed by a critical analysis of the formative nineteenth-century concept of "Character," before exploring Jaspers' interpretation of "Existenz." Through numerous examples, the author highlights important similarities between "Gesinnung" and "Existenz," demonstrating that both philosophers, despite using different terms, seek to articulate similar fundamental human experiences. The purpose of this article is to analyze the meaning and function of the concept "Gesinnung" in Immanuel Kant's philosophy and to compare it with one of Karl Jaspers' key philosophical terms, "Existenz." Philosophical implications of nuclear war. Karl Jaspers' Perspective
Licenciado en FilosofíaPregradoThis monograph reconstructs the philosophical perspective of the nuclear threat in Karl Jaspers and to make such a reconstruction it is necessary to account for both the Jasperian philosophy of existence that encompasses three aspects: the individual with metaphysical roots, the politics in which totalitarianism is broken down and democracy and history that accounts for the influence of the individual on events such as making an analysis of the author's way of arguing that I have called the disjunctive movement. Consequently, at first he realizes the concepts of the first aspect: self-doing, reason, intelligence, the limit situation, among others. In a second moment, the concepts of totalitarianism and democracy are realized and a historical context is given that accounts for the nuclear threat. Supported by these two moments, the third moment picks up Jaspers' proposal in the face of the nuclear threat and here appears the figure of the reasonable statesman, the community of reasonable men and immortality. Finally, in the analysis of Jaspers' argument, this reconstruction subscribes to one of the four possible ways of linking all the aforementioned concepts, thus supporting the argument that, if Jaspers had been in charge of atomic weapons, he would have activated the mechanism that would lead to the death of humanity as long as there had been an invasion of totalitarian rule.Filosofía polític
Jaspers' try of the rehabilitation of the idea of university
Author is into discussion of Jaspers' perception of the crisis idea of university and his try to mane a rehabilitation of his idea in his texts from 1923 and 1945. Author shows that Jaspers in his discussing idea of university count on while derive from implicit sociology German idealism. For Jaspers the institutions are forms of objective spirit which can function only in live form of the achievement of idea which is interesting. As soon as spirit disappear, institution starts to fossilize in something which is soul, which decay in dead substance
Karl Jaspers: Politics and Metaphysics
<p>This book sets out a new reading of the much-neglected philosophy of Karl Jaspers. By questioning the common perception of Jaspers either as a proponent of irrationalist cultural philosophy or as an early, peripheral disciple of Martin Heidegger, it re-establishes him as a central figure in modern European philosophy.
</p>
<p>Giving particular consideration to his position in epistemological, metaphysical and political debate, the author argues that Jaspers's work deserves renewed consideration in a number of important discussions, particularly in hermeneutics, anthropological reflections on religion, the critique of idealism, and debates on the end of metaphysics.</p>
