Letter from Frances K. Hashimoto, 1982 General Chairperson, Nisei Week Japanese Festival, to Jim Matsuoka, regarding Nisei Week. The Jim Matsuoka Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress Collection includes brochures, meeting notes and agendas, publications, booklets, and other material related to the Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress (NCRR), formally known as the National Coalition for Redress/Reparations. The National Coalition for Redress/Reparations was officially formed on July 12, 1980, and included members of the Los Angeles Community Coalition for Redress/Reparations (LACCRR), Japanese Community Progressive Alliance (JCPA), Tule Lake Committee, Nihonmachi Outreach Committee, the Asian/Pacific Student Union, and other members of the community. The material was collected by Jim Matsuoka, a founding member of the organization. Matsuoka also served on the board and was the treasurer. In addition to the NCRR material, the collection also contains event flyers and Day of Remembrance material. For issues of the Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress newsletter "Banner" published after 2007, visit the NCRR website at https://ncrr-la.org/

"Focal thyroid inferno" on color Doppler ultrasonography: A specific feature of focal Hashimoto's thyroiditis
Purpose: To evaluate color-Doppler features predictive of focal Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Materials and methods: A total of 521 patients with 561 thyroid nodules that underwent surgeries or gun biopsies were included in this study. These nodules were divided into three groups: focal Hashimoto's thyroiditis (104 nodules in 101 patients), benignity other than focal Hashimoto's thyroiditis (73 nodules in 70 patients), and malignancy (358 nodules in 350 patients). On color Doppler sonography, four vascularity types were determined as: hypovascularity, marked internal flow, marked peripheral flow and focal thyroid inferno. The chi(2) test was performed to seek the potential vascularity type with the predictive ability of certain thyroid pathology. Furthermore, the gray-scale features of each nodule were also studied. Results: The vascularity type I (hypovascularity) was more often seen in focal Hashimoto's thyroiditis than other benignity and malignancy (46% vs. 20.5% and 19%). While the type II (marked internal flow) showed the opposite tendency (26.9% [focal Hashimoto's thyroiditis] vs. 45.2% [other benignity] and 52.8% [malignancy]). However, type III (marked peripheral flow) was unable to predict any thyroid pathology. Importantly, type IV (focal thyroid inferno) was exclusive to focal Hashimoto's thyroiditis. All 8 type IV nodules appeared to be solid, hypoechoic, and well-defined. Using "focal thyroid inferno" as an indicator of FHT, the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were 7.7% and 100% respectively. Conclusions: The vascularity type of "focal thyroid inferno" is specific for focal Hashimoto thyroiditis. Recognition of this particular feature may avoid unnecessary interventional procedures for some solid hypoechoic thyroid nodules suspicious of malignancy. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Catestatin and Advanced Glycation End-Products: Potential Indicators of Cardiovascular Risk in Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
Accumulating evidence suggests that overt hypothyroidism is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis, thereby increasing the risk for major cardiovascular events. The present study aimed to investigate the associations between serum catestatin levels and advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), indicators of vascular health, in individuals with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis compared to healthy controls. A total of 100 female patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and 100 age-matched healthy controls were included in the study. Serum catestatin levels (10.2 (6.5–15.8) vs. 6.4 (4.1–9.3) ng/mL, p < 0.001) and tissue levels of AGEs (2.21 ± 0.55 ng/mL vs. 1.89 ± 0.56, p < 0.001) were both significantly higher in the Hashimoto’s group compared to the healthy age-matched controls. A positive correlation was observed between catestatin and AGEs in the overall population (r = 0.489, p < 0.001) and within the Hashimoto’s group (r = 0.457, p < 0.001). Additionally, weak positive correlations were noted between catestatin and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, as well as anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (r = 0.277, p = 0.005 and r = 0.229, p = 0.024, respectively). All of these associations were confirmed through multivariate analyses. The present analysis indicates that catestatin might be implicated in cardiovascular consequences of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. However, future research should focus on longitudinal studies to explore if the causal relationship exists
Letter From Hideo Hashimoto to friends
Letter written from Fresno Assembly Center to friends in the "outside" world describing the harsh effects of incarceration including quotes from the letters of incarcerees in other camps as well as from cited publications. Lists ways and actions to help the incarcerees. Also includes descriptions of recreation, education, and church activities. The Japanese American Relocation Collection is composed of ephemera related to the relocation program during World War II. Items include the official government report of Manzanar Relocation Center, a photo album, post-war activism materials related to preserving and remembering the camps, various clippings, and documents. The strength of this collection is found in its many perspectives on the controversial relocation program and how it has been presented since World War II
Choroba Hashimoto — aspekt genetyczny i środowiskowy
Chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, which is also known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition. Pathogenesis of this disease is determined by impaired immune system and breakedown of immunological self-tolerance, associated with lymphocytic infiltration of thyroid follicles resulting in autoimmune glandular destruction and hypothyroidism. This article discuss new aspects of etiopathogenesis both genetic and environmental factors as the cause of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Main focus is on the iodine surplus and selenium deficiency in the diet.Przewlekłe limfocytarne zapalenie tarczycy typu Hashimoto to choroba o podłożu autoimmunizacyjnym.
