Scepsi e mito in Remo Cantoni

    No full text
Skepticism and Myth in Remo Cantoni. The author examines three essays by Remo Cantoni (1914-1978), written in the 1940s, which focus on the relationship between skepticism and myth. The author argues that, for Cantoni, skepticism and myth represent two fundamental polarities of thought. The hypothesis that reason might ultimately overcome myth is, according to Cantoni, erroneous. Instead, the author emphasizes that Cantoni considers a phenomenology of myth essential for understanding it as a necessary dimension in the life of the spirit. According to the author, Cantoni is a philosopher who seeks to interpret the crisis of values and science, striving to remain within a rationalistic framework

    Resistant Nonparametric Smoothing with S-PLUS

    No full text
In this paper we introduce and illustrate the use of an S-PLUS set of functions to fit M-type smoothing splines with the smoothing parameter chosen by a robust criterion (either a robust version of cross-validation or a robust version of Mallows's Cp ). The main reference is: Cantoni, E. and Ronchetti, E. (2001). Resistant selection of the smoothing parameter for smoothing splines. Statistics and Computing, 11, 141-146.

    No full text
This essay aims to analyze the novel Conjunto vacío (2015) by the argenmex visual artist Verónica Gerber Bicecci, investigating the strategies chosen by the author to testify the trauma of argentine exile in Mexico in the aftermath of the last civic-military dictatorship. Starting with some considerations about the argenmex identity, it will be shown how exile turns into a “linguistic catastrophe” (Gatti), due to the representational impossibility it imposes on the word. The problem roots in the void of sense imposed by the exile trauma, which the word always tries to fill. To give account of this void, Gerber Bicecci recurs to the mathematical theory of sets, due to its ability to conceive the void without risking filling it. The mathematical categories of sets enter the text through their graphic representations: Venn’s diagrams drawn by the author. The universal reach of the graphic code allows the abstraction of the novel’s protagonist’s experience from this representational frame, which fits for the experience of every subject who suffered exile, creating a ‘community of exile’, which we will analyze through the theoretical proposals of the Italian philosopher Roberto Esposito. Finalmente, el estrecho vínculo entre palabra escrita y representación gráfica motivarán la calificación de Conjunto vacío en términos de ‘testimonio multimedia’.This essay aims to analyze the novel Conjunto vacío (2015) by the argenmex visual artist Verónica Gerber Bicecci, investigating the strategies chosen by the author to testify the trauma of argentine exile in Mexico in the aftermath of the last civic-military dictatorship. Large Transportation Project: Lessons Learned from Italian Case Studies

    No full text
This chapter is aimed to the analysis of typical issues occurring during the realization of megaprojects related to infrastructures and transportation services in Italy. As it possible to expect, the variety of transportation megaprojects is extremely broad. In the first section of this paper, the author will consider some of the most significant megaprojects in the area. During the second section of the analysis, the author will better describe the features of a successful megaproject, even if it did not result with the expected outcomes: the tramway in the Bergamo valleys. After a first not exciting period of existence, this megaproject can be defined as satisfying. However, also in this case, the preliminary technical and economic analyses turned out to be excessively optimistic. This project is interesting also because it was the object of an ex-post evaluation which allows to obtain a comparison between the effectively obtained results, especially in financial and economic terms, and the evaluations made by the sponsoring actors made during the preliminary planning phase and the request for public financing

"Doie parole".

We publish seven letters (1941-1942) from the Raffaele Viviani's unpublished epistolary to his wife Maria (1929-1947). These letters have an high documentary value for many research areas: the life and work of the author Neapolitan, theatrical (not only Neapolitan) history of the twentieth century; from a linguistic point of view the epistle writing, the sociolinguistic “continuum” of the early twentieth century. In the short linguistic examination we show the caracter of Viviani's epistle writing (which reflects the creative genius of the author): the constant changes of code (italian and dialectal language), the expressionism based on the plurilingualism and the spontaneous “talk” (for the proximity of the interlocutor). These letters represent a source for the “italiano regionale campano”
