Since the nineteenth century Spain has been both a participant and a venue for universal exhibitions, confronting itself with an imagery dramatically divided between traditional representations and an advocated modernity. Despite being a country incapable of competing economically with other western imperial powers, the case of Spain has a particular interest because of its cultural diversity, nostalgia for a past great empire and presentation as an exotic frontier between West and East, North and South of the world. The research studies carried out here mostly focus on the international scope of exhibitions and cover different transnational phenomena, inserting different imagined communities in wider and more ambitious spaces in Europe and Latin America. Notably, some exhibitions convert into special instruments for shaping collective identities in an interconnected Hispanic world in which posimperial Spanish national identity is a reference to link countries and continents. Educasting: Podcasts for Educational Purposes, LGBTIQ+ Studies, and Recognition of Sex-Gender Diversities
No full textEste proyecto de innovación docente se propone crear una comunidad colaborativa, que incluya profesores/as del Máster en Estudios LGBTIQ+ y del Departamento de Historia, Teorías y Geografías Políticas, a estudiantes de grado y posgrado y docentes de Europa y América Latina, para la producción y postproducción de podcasts que se enfoquen con una innovadora perspectiva pluridisciplinar en el análisis crítico de los procesos históricos, políticos y socioculturales de construcción de las diversidades sexogenéricas y contribuyan a la divulgación de las investigaciones que dan visibilidad a toda diversidad. Además, los podcasts propuestos tienen un planteamiento interseccional, es decir promueven un enfoque que subraye la compleja interrelación entre sexo, género, etnia, clase y orientación sexual. Nuestro proyecto pone en relación el PDI de cinco facultades UCM (Facultad de Geografía e Historia – Giulia Quaggio; Facultad de Filología – Arno Gimber y Evangelina Soltero Sánchez; Facultad de Psicología – Marta Evelia Aparicio García; Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociología – José Luis Ledesma Vera y Facultad de Bellas Artes – Laura de la Colina Tejada), haciéndose eco del pionero carácter humanista multidisciplinar del Máster en Estudios LGBTIQ+. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Las mujeres* sáficas durante el segundo franquismo (1959-1975): historias de vida sobre cotidianeidad, represión y subversión
Full text linkA partir de 1959 comienzan a fraguarse en el segundo franquismo cambios sociales, políticos y económicos a raíz de las transferencias culturales entre España, Europa y Estados Unidos, tanto como de las tensiones sociales que en el país van despertando poco a poco. Es por ello una etapa de conflictos entre el régimen, la Iglesia y partes de la sociedad; a lo largo de todo ello se desarrollan el debate y la defensa de los derechos humanos que el franquismo no protege, y estas reivindicaciones sociales que provienen de la lucha por los derechos laborales, de las movilizaciones vecinales y del activismo de izquierdas obligan al franquismo (junto con la vigilancia constante de Europa) a intentar adaptarse a regañadientes a todas estas demandas.
En este contexto en el que se mezclan la inmovilidad y la evolución, las mujeres* sáficas viven su vida cotidiana afectadas por las represiones que agentes del régimen (como la educación, la familia, la psiquiatría, la ley y los medios de comunicación) ejercen sobre ellas, pero también son así capaces de generar subversiones hacia la hegemonía del régimen, en tanto que desarrollan sus vidas de acorde a su sexualidad y sus pensamientos políticos. Esta investigación trata de darles el protagonismo a ellas, partiendo de la metodología de historias de vida que permite recoger sus experiencias vitales a lo largo de estas dos décadas y observar en qué puntos el franquismo se cuela hasta lo más profundo de sus vidas y en qué puntos ellas son capaces de desarrollar sus identidades como mujeres* que aman a mujeres*, lejos de la mirada de la dictadura.Starting from 1959, Franco’s regime goes through social, political and economic changes that are born from cultural transfers between Spain, Europe and the United States and social conflicts that slowly awaken in the country; it is therefore a period of tensions between the regime, the Church and sections of Spaniards. Throughout all of this, debate and defense of human rights start to acquire strength: these social vindications coming from labor protests, neighbourhood mobilizations and leftist activism altogether push Franco’s regime (alongside Europe’s constant surveillance) to reluctantly adapt to all of these demands. In this context of coexistence of societal immobility and evolution, sapphic women* live their everyday lives affected by the oppression that the regime’s control mechanisms (such as education, family, psychiatry, law and mass-media) perform in their subjectivity, but they are also capable of
generating subversions to Francoist hegemony, since they live according to their sexuality and political ideas. This investigation is keen on giving them the leading role in their life through a qualitative methodology called life histories, which allows gathering their experiences all over these two decades, as well as observing in which points Francoism seeps into the most profound sides of their lives. Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
