"W stanicy" [In the stanitsa] - a Cossack "Pan Tadeusz" : Mickiewicz's structure of customs description as a model for Łobodowski
The author of the article presents the second part of Łobodowski's trilogy "W stanicy" [In the stanitsa] in the context of "Pan Tadeusz" by Adam Mickiewicz, focusing on the description of customs. From the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, typified social experience is giving way to existential truth, and knowledge about the increasingly better distinguished environments which writers identify with, serves to create individual worlds and artistic concepts. Józef Łobodowski clearly follows this trend. "Pan Tadeusz" was a literary reservoir of obsolete customs, it described the type of family relationships belonging to the past. Łobodowski's trilogy is another link in this farewell to the current order. The most important dimension of the customs presented in both works is placing them in a certain perennial ritual of tradition
Boże klauny (u)topione w tradycji romantycznej
The core of the cultural myth of madness is a special treatment of the cognitive perspective of a madman, who “walks before a poet,” destroys established mental conventions, widens the boundaries of cognition, and cuts connections between words and objects that restrain literature. Thanks to the work of Michel Foucault, the author shows changes in the understanding of madness and points out some interpretive shifts between Romanticism and modernity. The author argues that the volume Boże klauny [God’s clowns] by Przemysław Dakowicz is a devaluation of the romantic figure of the “Crazy for God” into a degenerated clown. Dakowicz eagerly refers to biographies of such heroes of the modern world who entirely engaged in issues of art, philosophy, or religion – and stood eye to eye with their own madness: Vaslav Nijinsky, the wife of Thomas Stearns Eliot, Blaise Pascal, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Gunther Liebchen. Importantly, the contemporary crazy-wise do not transcend to spiritual reality, as the romantics did. Therefore, the volume by Dakowicz is weighted down with a symbolic burden of absence, emptiness, and silence. The purpose of the article is to prove that the issue of divine madness in Boże klauny is expanding from a romantic foundation based on general, literary allusiveness, and it refers more to romantic modality than to specific examples.
"They marched into me violently" : "Shame" ("Rovigo")
The analysis of the poem begins from deliberations on the form of the verse - the elegiac confession. It is an internally dynamic genre, reflecting the spiritual transformation of the character, which also allows the author to emphasise his individualism and his views. Experiencing the loss of shame is an emotion, but its other consequences have an existential aspect - this feeling concerns the interpersonal and cultural relations. Herbert (alluding to his illness) draws attention to the objectification of the patient, reduced to mere object of tests and treatment, as well as the progressive crossing the border of human dignity. A painful invasion in the human body (described in the verse as "they marched into me violently increasing the humiliation") causes the speaker to lose his shame, but at the same time he is stripped of his subjectivity. In fact, the drama is based on the interference with the sacrum of a person
"There is no great genius without an admixture of madness" : the romantics and Przemysław Dakowicz about madness and poetry
The aim of the text is to present the issues of madness and body of work. "Madness and Insanity: History of Madness in the Classical Age" written by Michel Foucault served me to show the changes in comprehending insanity / madness and allowed to show some interpretative shifts between romanticism and modernity. The most important thought that I got from Foucault it is his claim that romanticism has changed the way of see madness, from contempt and humiliation of mind going towards the older translation, which is the recognition of madness as a not very nice gift, but still it as the saint's gift from the God. This thesis has been supported by examples of romantic works (e.g. "Romantyczność"). It was particularly important to choose texts equating the poet (also the artist in general) and the madman, their peculiar saint "vision". It was a bridge to Przemysław Dakowicz's view, who continues a romantic idea. Dakowicz is playing with romantic heritage. At his works poet/mad (similar to the philosopher), they all have some special insight into the essence of the world
Human, history, nature : Mikhail Sholokhov's "And Quiet Flows the Don" and Józef Łobodowski's "Trylogia ukraińska" (Ukrainian Trilogy) : an overview

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
