Dynamic relationship between sector-specific indices and macroeconomic fundamentals / Jaafar Pyeman and Ismail Ahmad
This study focuses on the issue of long-run and short-run relationships between sector-specific indices of Bursa Malaysia and macroeconomic variables. The traditional variable under observation in analyzing stock market performance has been an aggregate stock market index. However, the application of an aggregate index could lead to misleading interpretation on the actual performance of each sector in Bursa Malaysia. Therefore, the main objective
of this study is to analyze the dynamic properties of the relationship between
sector-specific indices of Bursa Malaysia and macroeconomic variations.
The sectoral indices of Bursa Malaysia selected for this study are namely,
Construction, Plantation, Consumer Product, Finance, Industrial Product,
Mining, Hotel, Property and Trading and Services. The macroeconomic
variables are represented by real economic activity, interest rate, inflation
rate, money supply and exchange rate. The monthly data series of the
macroeconomic variables and stock market indices are obtained for the
period from 1993 to 2006. This study has identified various trends of responses
among the sector-specific indices towards the innovation in macroeconomic
variables. The results suggest that unanticipated changes in macroeconomic
variables could lead to similar patterns in some of the sector-specific indices
with the effects differing mainly in terms of speed of adjustments towards
equilibrium level in the long-run

Research Problem: Despite of its significance, current state of logistics cost accounting and management in Malaysia has not properly addressed and the issues surround logistics cost measurement remains incoherent.
Aim of research: The purpose of this study is to give an overview of the current state and issues of logistics cost accounting and management in Malaysia.
Research Method: This study used content analysis as a qualitative research tool, and supported by literature material with regards the concerned research tool.
Findings: This study has found the importance of having standard logistics cost accounting measurement, which plays a vital role in determining the accuracy of the logistics cost and ascertain the efficiency level of logistics industry in Malaysia.
Implication: This study leads to trigger the awareness of current state and issues of logistics cost accounting and management in Malaysia
The influence of macroeconomic factors on the Malaysian equity market / Jaafar Pyeman and Abdullah Sulaiman
This study explores the influence of macroeconomic variables towards the stock market performance by utilizing the regression and correlation analyses on the movement of the indices at Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. The performance of the stock market will be measured based on the level of the indices stated by KLSE. This study was carried out for the period of five years from the year 1998 until 2002, a period where the Malaysian economy was experiencing various economic situations from booming economy up to the economic (financial) crisis. Now it has recovered from a recurrence of the 1997-1998 Asian economic crisis. The variables that were analyzed in this study are the macroeconomic variables as independent variables and the stock market performance as the dependent variable. There are three sub-variables under the macroeconomic factor in this analysis namely gross domestic product (GDP), interest rate and inflation rate. According to previous researches done, the gross domestic product, interest rates and the inflation rates were considered the most common elements that were taken into consideration. As compared to the previous studies on the impact of economic variables (gross domestic product, interest rate and inflation rate) on the stock market performance, there are some similarities or consistencies in terms of the findings. The results of this study suggest that tire macroeconomic fundamentals in Malaysia i.e., gross domestic product (GDP), inflation rate and interest rate influence the stock market performance differently. The major findings are (1) The gross domestic product is the most important determinant of the Malaysian stock market performance (2) The inflation rate is also the predominant force on the performance of share price in the market and (3) The interest rate has least impact on stock market performance. However, this study does not indicate a clear relation on the impact of inflation rate and interest rate on the stock market performanc
Long run cointegration between sector-specific indices and macroeconomic fundamentals / Jaafar Pyeman and Ismail Ahmad
This paper has analysed the dynamic reactions between sector-specific indices of Bursa Malaysia and macroeconomic variables. This study shows that stock prices and macroeconomic variables tend to evolve as well as elaborate together in the long run. This study has identified various trends of responses among the sector-specific indices towards the innovation in macroeconomic variables. The share prices respond intensively to a shock in GDP in the long run particularly KLSECON, KLSEIND and KLSEFIN. The variances of share prices explained by innovation in GDP remain substantial for more than 20% in the long run for KLSECON and KLSEPROP. INFL has been identified to contribute
great shock in KLSEFIN during short run and the share prices shocks for KLSEPROP towards innovation in INFL decrease in the long run. Furthermore, KLSEIND responds intensively to a shock in INFL and the effect has remained
substantial in the long run. The innovation in INT has also contributed to great impact on the share prices especially KLSEFIN and KLSEIND during short run, KLSEIND has shown consistent responses to one standard deviation shock in INT for most of the quarters in this study. The results suggest that unanticipated changes in macroeconomic variables lead to similar patterns in some of the sector-specific indices with the effects differing mainly in term of the magnitude as well as the persistent of the responses that occur following the shocks
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
