On isomorphism of the space of continuous functions with finite p-th variation along a partition sequence

We study the concept of (generalized) p-th variation of a real-valued continuous function along a general class of refining sequence of partitions. We show that the finiteness of the p-th variation of a given function is closely related to the finiteness of p-norm pound of the coefficients along a Schauder basis, similar to the fact that H & ouml;lder coefficient of the function is connected to B infinity-norm of the Schauder coefficients. This result provides an isomorphism between the space of ca-H & ouml;lder continuous functions with finite (generalized) p-th variation along a given partition sequence and a subclass of infinite-dimensional matrices equipped with an appropriate norm, in the spirit of Ciesielski.

To upgrade the known avifaunal assemblages of adjoining coastal areas of Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal, India, opportunistic survey were carried out during January 2020 to August 2022. The survey yielded additions of 36 bird species in 10 orders and 17 families to the coastal area of Purba Medinipur district, based on photographic evidences. Among these recorded birds, 30 species were classified as Least Concern, two species were Near Threatened (Aythya nyroca, Calidris canutus), one species was Vulnerable (Aythya ferina), two species were Endangered (Calidris tenuirostris, Rynchops albicollis) and one species was Not Assessed (Porphyrio poliocephalus). Details of all the records are given here

Concerning the need to choose the most convenient species to cultivate in order to implement aquaculture in Portugal, the author draws the attention to the deleterious consequences of introductions and transfers of aquatic animals.Caixa Geral de Depósito

SARS-CoV-2 spike fusion peptide trans interaction with phosphatidylserine lipid triggers membrane fusion for viral entry

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike is the fusion machine for host cell entry. Still, the mechanism by which spike protein interacts with the target lipid membrane to facilitate membrane fusion during entry is not fully understood. Here, using steady-state membrane fusion and single-molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer imaging of spike trimers on the surface of SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirion, we directly show that spike protein interacts with phosphatidylserine (PS) lipid in the target membrane for mediating fusion. We observed that the fusion peptide of the spike S2 domain interacts with the PS lipid of the target membrane. Low pH and Ca2+ trigger the spike conformational change and bring fusion peptide in close proximity to the PS lipid of the membrane. The binding of the spike with PS lipid of its viral membrane (cis interaction) impedes the fusion activation. PS on the target membrane promotes spike binding via trans interaction, prevents the cis interaction, and accelerates fusion. Sequestering or absence of PS lipid abrogates the spike-mediated fusion process and restricts SARS-CoV-2 infectivity. We found that PS-dependent interaction for fusion is conserved across all the SARS-CoV-2 spike variants of concern (D614G, Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron). Our study suggests that PS lipid is indispensable for SARS-CoV-2 spike-mediated virus and target membrane fusion for entry, and restricting PS interaction with spike inhibits the SARS-CoV-2 spike-mediated entry. Therefore, PS is an important cofactor and acts as a molecular beacon in the target membrane for SARS-CoV-2 entry

The majorly preferred marketing channel by respondents in the study area is Channel 2. In channel 1, total marketing cost is Rs.25, total marketing margin is Rs 595, marketing efficiency of channel 1 is 2.58% and Price spread seen in channel 1 is Rs.550. In channel 2, total marketing cost is Rs.255, total marketing margin in channel 2 is Rs. 800, marketing efficiency of channel 2 is 1.71% and Price spread seen in channel 2 is Rs.755.00

Redox-Responsive Nanocapsules for the Spatiotemporal Release of Miltefosine in Lysosome: Protection against Leishmania

Leishmaniasis, a vector-borne disease, is caused by intracellular parasite Leishmania donovani. Unlike most intracellular pathogens, Leishmania donovani are lodged in parasitophorous vacuoles and replicate within the phagolysosomes in macrophages. Effective vaccines against this disease are still under development, while the efficacy of the available drugs is being questioned owing to the toxicity for nonspecific distribution in human physiology and the reported drug-resistance developed by Leishmania donovani. Thus, a stimuli-responsive nanocarrier that allows specific localization and release of the drug in the lysosome has been highly sought after for addressing two crucial issues, lower drug toxicity and a higher drug efficacy. We report here a unique lysosome targeting polymeric nanocapsules, formed via inverse mini-emulsion technique, for stimuli-responsive release of the drug miltefosine in the lysosome of macrophage RAW 264.7 cell line. A benign polymeric backbone, with a disulfide bonding susceptible to an oxidative cleavage, is utilized for the organelle-specific release of miltefosine. Oxidative rupture of the disulfide bond is induced by intracellular glutathione (GSH) as an endogenous stimulus. Such a stimuli-responsive release of the drug miltefosine in the lysosome of macrophage RAW 264.7 cell line over a few hours helped in achieving an improved drug efficacy by 200 times as compared to pure miltefosine. Such a drug formulation could contribute to a new line of treatment for leishmaniasis.A.
