Political Influence on Theatre Historiography: Jewish Memory Topics in Lithuania
The article discusses the question of the memory of Jewish history and culture in Lithuania in regard to the cultural and political debates that are actually taking place in Lithuanian society. Historical facts, concerning Jewish cultural life in Lithuania before the Second World War, were eliminated from the research field conducted by historiographers during the Soviet and the early post Soviet times. The article argues that this was due to political aspirations of the country; they play the crucial role in defining what type of memories the society would carry on and defend. In regard to the research done by sociologists Maurice Halbwachs, Jan and Aleida Assmanns notions of collective memory, functional and stored memory are discussed. Examples of the recent media persecutions of cultural personas such as Rūta Vanagaitė and Marius Ivaškevičius are discussed in order to illustrate the memory war that is still taking place in the actual Lithuanian society

The dissemination of communication genres of contemporary culture in Lithuania: possibilities and consequences of mediatization
The concept of culture is variable and perceived individually. The reasons for that are different values, social and historical contexts. This phenomenon reaches every individual in one or
another way. Culture communication disseminates in various ways, which reflects aims and functions of communication. During mediatization the dissemination of culture is changing and responds to the needs of consumers, who are also affected by this process. Consumers of press change media repertoires, become more involved and feel the need to receive news faster. It is noted that, due to mediatization and the changing needs of users of culture dissemination, attitude to culture is more superficial, mass culture is more communicated and dissemination of culture is moving to Internet.
The problem of research. Is culture given the same attention as other news? Are elite and mass cultures communicated to the same extent? How is cultural media and its use changing during
mediatization? How culture users needs are met?
The object of research. The dissemination of culture communication in Lithuania during mediatization.

Lithuanian National Drama Theater examination of the situation: crisis management model and change options
2. Ištirti valstybės finansuojamo teatro krizių diskursą ir susidarymo priežastis. 3. Atlikti visuomenės poreikių ir sisteminių kaitos galimybių analizę. Atsižvelgiant į šiuos išsikeltus uždavinius, darbas yra skirstomas į tris skyrius: Apibendrinant gautas išvadas, pateikiamos rekomendacijos. Atkreipiamas dėmesys į būtinus sisteminius pokyčius, bei jų reikšmę teatro veikimo mechanizmui. Before starting to take systemic transformation , it is useful to look over the current situation and raise problematic components. War and culture: Lithuanian theatre during the Nazi occupation
This study aims to reconstruct the activities of Lithuanian theatre during the Nazi occupation of Lithuania between June 1941 and July 1944 and thus to define the role theatre and cultural society played in the formation of public discourse. Theatrical life was exceptionally vibrant and intense during the period mentioned, so the first question that the researcher asks is: why this period been erased from the cultural memory of Lithuanian society? A deeper insight into this ambivalent epoch allows us to conclude that for many intellectuals and cultural actors, wartime activities were not always comfortable in creating a consistent image that they wished to maintain either in Soviet Lithuania or in exile after the war. Our research shows that, although the political system changed three times (Lithuania became Soviet in 1940, then part of the German Reich in 1941, and then again Soviet in 1944), many intellectuals and cultural workers continued their careers and adapted themselves to the given conditions, thus serving both totalitarian regimes. The research is grouped into four thematic topics. The first chapter is dedicated to the introduction of the methodological approach, which is based on the analysis of totalitarian regimes. Hannah Arendt’s concept appears to be the most relevant for this topic because it reveals the behavior models of such social groups as intellectuals and artists and shows their impact on the dissemination of totalitarian ideas in society. One of the most influential instruments in this was the awakening of national aspirations in society and using them as a tool against other nations and races. To construct a solid national identity, many intellectuals, including Lithuanians, spoke against other nations, especially Jews, and thus contributed to the dissemination of totalitarian ideology. In her book The Origins of Totalitarianism, Arendt shows how this racist discourse spread in different countries in the 19th and first half of the 20th century and, consequently, what damage it did when used for colonization purposes. As the second chapter of the book reveals, culture played a crucial role in the dissemination of German National Socialism. It allowed the leaders of the movement to consolidate dispersed bourgeois groups and use them for their purposes. The Nazis succeeded in creating a cultural web that covered the entire country and, consequently, the colonized ones. This web promoted culture based on the idea of Volksgemeinschaft and excluded everything that would be considered “modernist Jewish-Bolshevik” art, also called degenerate. The main Nazi leaders were interested in various art fields and supported the flourishing of art. Theater was one of the most important elements in consolidating the nation; therefore, it benefited from special attention from the designers of the new society. Opera, drama, operetta, ballet, modern dance, cabaret, variety shows, and open-field performances—all were used to consolidate the nation and make it believe in its uniqueness. Unlike in the Soviet Union, the indoctrination of the country was achieved not by direct propaganda but by more subtle cultural means that aligned with bourgeois mentality.[...]Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas / Vytautas Magnus UniversityMenų fakultetas / Faculty of ArtsTeatrologijos katedra / Department of Theater Studie
Theatre and creative communication during covid-19 pandemic: the case of national Kaunas drama theatre, Lithuania
The article deals with the questions of digital communication and theatre during the lockdown in 2020-2021. With the example of the National Kaunas Drama Theatre, Lithuania, it is revealed that COVID-19 pandemic forced the cultural sector to experiment and use digital products in new conceptual ways. National Kaunas Drama Theatre proposed their audience an online platform Theatre Onl1ne TV (originally in Lithuanian: Teatras Onl1ne TV), and developed performances which were adapted to the digital environment of the lockdown period: some of the performances were transmitted on Zoom Video Communications platform, especially those for children and adolescents, some of them, such as The Flickering, tested new ways of integrating audiences digitally into theatrical action. The latter performance was created for Facebook users, lasted for four evenings and invited them to become co-creators of the story. The analysis reveals that digital theatre communication attracted audiences of younger generations and can be a useful creative tool in developing a relationship with the new generation of theatre-goers. Front Theatre and Variety Theatre in Lithuania During World War II
This article reveals how theatre on small stages functioned in Lithuania during World War II and what was its impact on different audiences. It discusses two topics: 1) specificities of the front theatre intended for German soldiers and their administration; 2) specificities of variety theatre intended to all kinds of audiences. Front theatres in the Third Reich were a well-structured and well-financed organisation that served not only German soldiers and army officials but was an attractive job place for artists. Shows were given in all the occupied territories and thus the morale of the German army was supposed to be maintained. Variety theatres, that is small stage performances, were dedicated to lower class audiences; these shows demanded no intellectual effort and were meant to entertain. Journalists, writing about this type of theatre, avoided to criticise it, because it nevertheless fulfilled its duty to stimulate citizens’ optimism and to make them more loyal to the Nazi government
