Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. O processo de formação da estratégia na ótica dos estrategistas
No full textO planejamento estratégico é uma ferramenta importante para a gestão das organizações, sejam elas públicas ou privadas, pois possibilita a alocação dos recursos de forma a contribuir para o alcance de objetivos pré-determinados. Ocorre que muitas empresas não sistematizam esse processo, fazendo com que ocorram estratégias informais para a atuação no seu ambiente. Henry Mintzberg, grande referência na área de planejamento estratégico, chama as estratégias formais de deliberadas e as informais de emergentes. Associados a esses dois tipos de estratégias estão os processos de formulação de estratégias (formal) e de formação de estratégias (informal). O objetivo do presente trabalho foi identificar como ocorre o processo de formação da estratégia em uma empresa de economia mista do setor elétrico na ótica dos estrategistas desta organização. Essa pesquisa contribui para um setor relevante e estratégico da sociedade brasileira, que é o setor elétrico, pois aborda o seu panorama histórico e atual e a inserção da Eletrosul nesse ambiente cada vez mais competitivo e que requer gestão, organização e estratégias de superação dos desafios. Para alcançar o objetivo proposto, o levantamento dos dados foi feito por meio de entrevistas aos principais executivos da empresa. Procurou-se saber como ocorre o referido processo na ótica dos estrategistas, um dos pilares da ¿estratégia enquanto prática¿, que são os responsáveis por fazer a estratégia acontecer na organização e por tomar as decisões mais importantes. Os resultados das entrevistas permitiram identificar que as estratégias emergentes são mais presentes, embora se utilizem também das deliberadas. A presença dos dois tipos de estratégias se apresenta como positivo, porém, os entrevistados apontam a necessidade de melhorar o processo formal, uma vez que ele registra, mede e avalia as decisões e os caminhos por onde a empresa está seguindo.Strategic planning is an important tool for the management of organizations, whether public or private, since it allows the allocation of resources in order to contribute to the achievement of predetermined objectives. It happens that many companies do not systematize this process, causing occurring informal strategies to work in your environment. Henry Mintzberg, a great reference in the area of strategic planning, called the formal strategies deliberate and emergent informal. Associated with these two types of strategies are the processes of formulating strategies (formal) training and strategies (informal). The aim of this study was to identify how the process occurs strategy formation in a mixed economy company in the electricity sector from the viewpoint of strategists of this organization. This research contributes to a significant and strategic sector for Brazilian society, which is the electricity sector as it addresses your current and historical overview and insertion Eletrosul in this increasingly competitive environment and that requires management, organization and strategies for overcoming challenges . To achieve the proposed objective, the data collection was done through interviews with key executives of the company. We tried to find out how that process occurs under the focus of strategists, one of the pillars of "strategy as practice", which are responsible for making the strategy happen in organizing and taking major decisions. The results of the interviews allowed to identify emerging strategies that are more present, although the deliberate use also. The presence of both types of strategies is presented as positive, however, respondents point to the need to improve the formal process, since it records, measures and evaluates the decisions and paths where the company is heading

No full textCom o advento da economia baseada no conhecimento, o conhecimento e o aprendizado passaram a desempenhar papel impulsionador no desenvolvimento econômico. O conhecimento é tido como insumo fundamental no processo empreendedor e inovativo, que se encarrega de enfrentar a alta competitividade do mercado atual. Além disso, o desenvolvimento do empreendedorismo tem ganhado cada vez mais espaço dentre aqueles que possuem bons níveis de conhecimento e que aceitam correr riscos. Neste contexto, o papel das universidades vem adquirindo maior relevância, uma vez que ainda se apresentam como locus principal de geração de novos conhecimentos e formação de competências nos futuros profissionais. Nesta perspectiva, por meio de pesquisa descritiva, explicativa, com metodologia qualitativa e quantitativa e do tipo essencialmente documental, buscou-se analisar a performace do desenvolvimento de competências requeridas ao empreendedorismo inovador a partir das universidades de Santa Catarina com base nos resultados da segunda etapa do Programa Sinapse da Inovação do ano de 2012. A partir disso foi possilitado identificar as estratégias para fomentar o empreendedorismo inovador, mapeando as competências promovidas pela formação empreendedora propostas nas estratégias identificas, e ainda avaliando os resultados das estratégias desenvolvidas a partir dos projetos do Programa Sinapse da Inovação promovido pela FAPESC. Dessa forma pode-se entender que as universidades apresentam diversas estratégias para o desenvolvimento de competências empreendedoras. Elas encontram-se nos três pilares acadêmicos e certamente agregam muito a sociedade. Porém é coerente dizer que talvez nem todas as iniciativas sejam frutíferas, pois as vezes não é vontade do aluno, empreender. A universidade com maior representação de iniciativas tem sido a UFSC, e a área de conhecimento mais presente é a de ciências sociais aplicadas. No que tange aos dados estatísticos, estes não confirmaram relação entre as variáveis: universidades e o número de projetos aprovados. Entretanto, não se descarta uma associação, pois a mesma pode ser encontrada a partir de outros dados, como sugerido para trabalhos futuro. O tema justifica-se por relacionar o papel desafiante das Universidades com o desenvolvimento da sociedade, no que tange principalmente ao emprego correto do conhecimentonum cenário empreendedor

counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
