Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Impiego di "Ex prodotti alimentari" nell'allevamento di Tenebrio molitor: aspetti nutrizionali e microbiologici
Il lavoro condotto ha valutato in modo quanti-qualitativo le differenze che diversi substrati alimentari possono comportare nell’allevamento di Tenebrio molitor. I substrati utilizzati per la crescita degli insetti sono stati differenziati fin dal principio e mantenuti tali per tutta la durata del lavoro.
È stato effettuato un continuo controllo sui fattori necessari all’allevamento come l’alimentazione, l’abbeveraggio e il mantenimento dell’umidità e delle temperature necessarie monitorando settimanalmente la sopravvivenza degli adulti, l’andamento di crescita delle larve, il loro consumo di acqua e, a partire dalla decima settimana, il loro incremento ponderale.
Dopo circa 150 giorni dalle prime deposizioni di uova da parte degli adulti di T. molitor, sono state effettuate analisi per la valutazione di parametri chimico-nutrizionali quali l’analisi centesimale (sostanza secca, estratto etereo, proteine grezze e ceneri) e analisi microbiologiche al fine di determinare la carica batterica mesofila e quantificare eventuali microrganismi patogeni o alteranti tra cui germi sporigeni, enterobatteri, enterococchi, stafilococchi, batteri lattici, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas, lieviti e muffe.
Le larve di T. molitor hanno un profilo nutrizionale interessante e adeguato ai fabbisogni alimentari animali e umani. Lo studio ha evidenziato come il contenuto dei principali macronutrienti sia funzione del substrato di crescita utilizzato per l’allevamento delle larve stesse. Si evince infatti che le larve allevate su trebbie di birra (LT) esprimono una percentuale di proteine pari a 49,07% su sostanza secca (SS), significativamente superiore a quelle allevate su solo pane (37,48% SS).
Per quanto riguarda gli acidi grassi, le diete a base di monosubstrato hanno riportato medie più basse (37,20 e 38,96% SS) rispetto ai substrati composti da mix di trebbie di birra e pane mediamente pari a 41,89% SS.
Per quanto riguarda il profilo microbiologico, sebbene le larve di T. molitor siano caratterizzate da cariche microbiche in alcuni casi anche elevate, esse possono tuttavia essere considerate alimenti sicuri dal punto di vista igienico-sanitario e non contaminati dai principali microorganismi patogeni

Exploring Assisted EVOLution approaches for improving SEAgrass restoration and for enhancing the resilience of restored populations (AEvol-Sea)
In this research, I explored non-invasive assisted evolution strategies on seagrasses to establish effective protocols for (i) pre-conditioning genotypes to increase their stress-tolerance and (ii) identifying genotypes that are already stress-adapted. The identification of high-performing genotypes is useful to improve seagrass-based ecosystem restoration. In Chapters 2 and 3, I provided evidences that the primed state (i.e stress memory) acquired by seedlings of Posidonia oceanica after a first stress exposure is not permanent, but rather temporary adjustment that helps the plant to respond more quickly to recurrent stress. In the second study, new data related to genes associated with transcriptional memory were provided. In Chapter 4, I observed that the phenotypic screening tests on seeds of P. oceanica are important for identifying seeds that enhance seedling viability in the early months, leading to more successful transplantation (i.e. larger-seeded seedlings showed faster and stronger growth than smaller seed seedlings). However, further research is needed to assess the role of seed reserves in preventing heat stress, as larger-seeded seedlings do not demonstrate increased resistance to heat stress. In Chapter 5, I investigated differences in temperature resilience between Zostera marina populations from areas characterized by different thermal regimes (shallow/warm and deep/cold). The identification of locations with thermal tolerant populations at a small spatial scale is important to identify sources of stress-resistant seagrasses for active restoration, through Assisted Gene Flow, and conservation measures within the same distribution region. scenarios. The analyses for this project are still ongoing; however the preliminary observations offer an initial idea of how the tested populations responded to the experimental conditions.
This thesis offers pioneering insight into the efficacy of non-invasive strategies of assisted evolution technologies in providing genotypes or identifying seagrass genotypes with a critical capacity to adapt at a pace closer to that of current climate change trajectories
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
