Book Review - Reviewing S. Prakash Sinha, What Is Law? (1989)
Book Review Extract:
The title of S.P. Sinha\u27s book, What Is Law?, is somewhat deceptive, for the author ambitiously tries to do more than merely define the concept of law in well under 300 pages. After the introductory historical and philosophical overview of his initial chapter, Sinha uses the balance of his book to summarize the major theories of law, including how law arises, how it is applied, and why it is important in society. The work is less of an original attempt by its writer to answer the question posed by the title than it is an effort to seek such an answer by means of surveying- albeit briefly in each instance -the views of the major thinkers in this field

Graciliano Ramos. ABSTRACT: This article presents a brief overview above Graciliano Ramos’ life, as well as some of his writing characteristics. From his works we focused on the São Bernardo and Vidas Secas novels’ general aspects. The main objective is to analyze how characters Madalena, from the São Bernardo novel, and sinha Vitória, from work Vidas Secas, and highlight the contrasts between the characters by Graciliano Ramos. Madalena and sinha Vitória are made up of humanism and generosity. The first one is presented as a cultured, intelligent, humanist woman, she reflects about various problems. Already the second has a dream that drives her to move forward in search of a better reality. Sinha Vitoria is also the most thoughtful of the retired group. For that, interpretive research was based on data submitted by Calheiros (2006), Magellan (2001), Santos (2009) studies, among the authors who white about the author and his works. We intend to emphasize the situation and the role of northeastern women, and reveal their value in the social context of each work. This work will expose the importance of northeastern women, their strength, courage and determination in facing the difficulties present in the northeastern backlands. It has been found that they are distinct women and that both characters are strong. Madalena is silenced so as not to lose her authenticity, while, sinha Vitoria is silent in respect to the patriarchal society that does not admit that women have an active voice.KEYWORDS: Madalena. Plastic Strain in Materials Under the Influence of Impulsive Load
Title: Plastic Strain in Materials Under the Influence of Impulsive Load, Author: Shailendra K. Sinha, Location: ThodeEquipment was designed for testing dynamic behaviors of materials subjected to impulsive load. Detail design of the equipment and experimental techniques have been described. Armco Ingot Iron with 99.8% purity was tested. Before testing, the material was fully annealled. "n" and "G(ε,t) (as occurring in the characteristic equation σm^n to K(n) = G (ε,t), for this material were evaluated. The material was found to ber very sensitive to strain rates.ThesisMaster of Engineering (ME
Essays on theories of value in the classical tradition
“This volume revisits the foundations of classical political economy and outlines on that basis a new research paradigm. Ajit Sinha presents an extremely ambitious and challenging work that opens new and invaluable vistas on classical economic theory and economics at large.”
Roberto Scazzieri, Professor of Economic Analysis, University of Bologna and National Lincei Academy, Italy.
“For a quarter of a century Ajit Sinha has worked on the classical theory of value, reinterpreting Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Karl Marx in terms of his own original, and often contested, interpretation of Piero Sraffa. This fascinating volume brings together several of Sinha's most perceptive and most contentious papers. Always scholarly, stimulating and provocative, it is essential reading for anyone with an interest in classical value theory.”
John King, Emeritus Professor, La Trobe University, Australia.
This collection of essays invites the reader to trace the intellectual journey of the author from his early incisive exploration and critique of key categories in Marxian economics, through his insights into classical economic theory, culminating in his pioneering and definitive reading of the economics of Sraffa. Where the author’s position has significantly changed he provides notations and explanations, and the addition of two new chapters written especially for this volume complete the scholarly journey. Following three decades worth of study, this book brings together a set of important contributions that not only give historical perspective but makes them convenient and accessible for students and researchers today
Modeling Neutron Damage in Silicon Detectors for High Energy Physics Experiments
Silicon detectors are expected to experience an unprecedented neutron flux in the future upgrades of the detectors at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The challenging radiation environment of these experiments will severely affect the performance of silicon detectors. An irradiation campaign is generally carried out, followed by measurements, to develop radiation-hard silicon detectors. Device modeling complements the measurement results for the detailed understanding of the silicon detectors. Our Group at the University of Delhi successfully developed the radiation damage model for proton irradiation. However, a similar model for neutron irradiation has been missing. In the present work, a Technology Computer-Aided Design (TCAD) simulation software—Silvaco, has been used to study the effects of neutron irradiation on silicon detectors. The effects of radiation damage are incorporated using an effective two-trap model. A trap level is characterized by a number of trap parameters, e.g. trap type, trap energy level, introduction rate of acceptors and donors, and carrier (electrons and holes) capture cross section for that particular trap level. A systematic study of the sensitivity of various macroscopic parameters of silicon detectors to these trap parameters has been performed. The simulation results on leakage current (ILEAK), full depletion voltage (VFD) and charge collection efficiency (CCE), using the neutron damage model, are found to be in good agreement with the measurement results
Single incision laparoscopic TAPP with standard laparoscopic instruments and suturing of flaps: A continuing study
Background: Single incision laparoscopic surgery, especially transumbilical, should be the closest to replicate the minimal access results achieved by natural orifice endoscopic surgery (NOTES). This study of single incision transabdominal preperitoneal (SITAPP) inguinal hernia repair is a continuing study exploring the peroperative variables and short and long term complications of this procedure. Patients and Methods: All the 183 patients were operated by the same surgeon through a horizontal transumbilical incision positioned across the lower third of the umbilicus. Port access was through three separate transfacial punctures. Routine rigid instruments were used and the peritoneal flaps were either tacked or sutured into place. Patients with irreducible hernia and obstructed hernia were included, while those with strangulated hernia were excluded. Results: All the patients were male with an average age of 41.4 years. Twenty four patients had bilateral hernia, 15 patients had irreducible and 6 patients had obstructed hernia. The mean operating time was 38.3 mins for unilateral hernias completed with tackers and 42.8 mins in those with intracorporeal suturing. The corresponding operating time for bilateral hernias was 53.2 and 62.7 minutes. There was minimal serous discharge from the umbilicus in 8 patients, port site infection in 1 patient and recurrence in 2 patients over a 36 months period. Conclusions: SITAPP for groin hernias, performed with conventional instruments is feasible, easy to learn, has a very high patient acceptance and is cosmetically superior to conventional TAPP. The use of tackers reduces the operating time significantly
