Estimates of the bistable region in metal cutting

The classical model of regenerative vibration is investigated with new kinds of nonlinear cutting force characteristics. The standard nonlinear characteristics are subjected to a critical review from the nonlinear dynamics viewpoint based on the experimental results available in the literature. The proposed nonlinear model includes finite derivatives at zero chip thickness and has an essential inflexion point. In the case of the one degree-of-freedom model of orthogonal cutting, the existence of unstable self-excited vibrations is proven along the stability limits, which is strongly related to the force characteristic at its inflexion point. An analytical estimate is given for a certain area below the stability limit where stable stationary cutting and a chaotic attractor coexist. It is shown how this domain of bistability depends on the theoretical chip thickness. The comparison of these results with the experimental observations and also with the subcritical Hopf bifurcation results obtained for standard nonlinear cutting force characteristics provides relevant information on the nature of the cutting force nonlinearit

Psychoanaliza w szkole lwowsko-warszawskiej: Stepan Baley o motywie endymiońskim w twórczości literackiej Tarasa Szewczenki i Juliusza Słowackiego

The concept of Endymion motive of creativity by Ukrainian and Polish psychologist Stepan Baley as an example of psychoanalytic studies in the tradition of the Lvov-Warsaw philosophical school is examined in this paper. It is shown that S. Baley on the base of used methodology was able to identify deep parallels in the works of great poets of Ukraine (Taras Shevchenko) and Poland (Juliusz Słowacki). The concept of Endymion motive of creativity by Ukrainian and Polish psychologist Stepan Baley as an example of psychoanalytic studies in the tradition of the Lvov-Warsaw philosophical school is examined in this paper. Alexandriinskiy Theatre

Detail showing two Corinthian pilaster capitals and frieze; Rossi worked particularly long and hard (1816-1832) on an ensemble that is centred on the Aleksandrinsky (now called the A. S. Pushkin Academy Theatre) Theatre , one that incorporated a grand system of new streets and squares. The north side faces Nevsky Prospekt; then comes the theatre’s main façade; behind is Teatral’naya (now Rossi) Street, linking the square on the south side of the theatre with the semicircular Chernyshov (now Lomonosov) Square, which opens towards the Fontanka. Another innovation was the metallic decoration to the ceilings of the Aleksandrinsky Theatre. The portico of the main facade has six Corinthian columns, topped by a sculptural group by Stepan Pimenov, of Apollo, patron of the arts, driving a chariot harnessed to four horses. It is one of several quadrigas designed by Pimenov and the sculptor Vasily Demut-Malinovsky for Rossi buildings in St. Petersburg. The Costume of Stepan Trofimovich

    No full text
The article examines the costume of Stepan Trofimovich Verkhovensky, the main character of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel Demons. Unlike clothes, the costume is associated with theatricality, acting, and performing or with playing a role. During the novel Stepan Trofimovich “plays different roles” and Varvara Petrovna determines his costume. Other heroes from the novel are also costumed (especially the young generation or young “demons”), who play their roles on the stage of Skvoreshniki. Stepan Trofimovich sometimes accepts, sometimes renounces his role; he protests and withstands the costume intended for him. Analysing his behaviour and costume, the article concludes that Stepan Trofimovich, in the end of his life journey, frees himself from the role that was intended for him. In the very end he “stepped off the stage” of Skvoreshniki and found himself “naked” on the eternal path when he took off his “civil” and fake costume
