The role of affective temperaments and chronotype in pharmacotherapy response in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder

    No full text
BACKGROUND: Comorbid mood disorders affect the prognosis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) negatively. Affective temperaments are assumed to be subsyndromal symptoms and precursors of mood disorders, but its effects on OCD outcome still remain unclear. There is a body of evidence, which supports the association between circadian rhythm disturbances and mood disorders in the literature. In contrast, there is limited data concerning the effects of chronobiological differences among the patients with OCD and OCD comorbid mood disorders. The main objective of this present study was to examine the clinical effects of affective temperaments and chronotype differences in patients with OCD. METHODS: The study participants were 76 patients with OCD, who have been under treatment at least for 12 weeks, and 55 healthy controls. The participants were administered the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale, Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris, and San Diego Auto-questionnaire, Morningness and Eveningness Questionnaire, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, and Hamilton Anxiety Scale. RESULTS: OCD patients scored higher in depressive, cyclothymic, irritable, and anxious temperament scores compared to the healthy controls. There were significant differences between patients with remission and not remission in depressive, cyclothymic, irritable, and anxious temperaments. Eveningness chronotype was more frequent in OCD patients; however, the difference was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Understanding the effects of affective temperaments and chronotype differences on the outcome of patients with OCD might provide valuable insights in developing new treatment approaches especially in treatment-resistant OCD cases

    No full text
Within the scope of this study, in addition to traditional solution methods such as finite differences, finite elements and boundary elements in the numerical solution of groundwater flow problems, it is aimed to introduce the new and developing Differential Quadrature Method (DQM) and to apply it to groundwater flow problems. In the study, one and two-dimensional groundwater flow problems were examined, and the numerical calculation of spatial derivatives using the DQM method was investigated by using various nodal point distributions according to the preferred polynomial approach. In time-dependent one and two-dimensional groundwater flow problems, it is aimed to convert the time-dependent partial differential equation to an ordinary differential equation system with the Method of Lines (MOL) for the calculation of temporal derivatives. The resulting ordinary differential equation systems were solved numerically using different time schemes. The method was first applied to the modeling of a one-dimensional confined aquifer. Since there was no analytical solution here, the accuracy of the model results was investigated with reference solutions. In the second problem, the modeling of two-dimensional steady-state groundwater flow with known analytical solutions was performed. Finally, the current method was applied to one- and two-dimensional unsteady-state pollutant transport problems with known analytical solutions. The numerical results obtained were compared with analytical and literature solutions. When the performance of the method is examined as a result of the comparisons, it is revealed that it produces efficient and high-accuracy solutions with minimum computational effort.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of platinum complexes of highly functionalized aroylaminocarbo-N-thioyl prolinate containing tetrahydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,3(2H,3aH)-dione moieties

Platinum complexes, derived from two families of bidentate funcionalized aroylaminocarbo-N-thyoyl prolinates, are prepared using mild conditions from prolinates, which are available via 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions. The resulting four coordinated neutral square-planar platinum(II) complexes are very stable and are fully characterized. Their structures are determined by spectroscopic and analytical methods and one of them by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In this pattern, the platinum exhibits distorted square planar geometry, with cis-bond angles ranging from 89.42(2) and 94.37(6)° and trans-bond angles of 176.19(6) and 177.08(6)°, respectively. Anti(myco)bacterial and antifungal studies of all these new compounds are carried out under standardized protocols. This work is a part of Samet Belveren's ongoing PhD thesis granted by Mersin University (Project no. Synthesis of highly functionalized 2-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)thiazole frameworks with interesting antibacterial and antimycobacterial activity

    No full text
A versatile, facile and concise approach to access to highly substituted functionalized 2-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)thiazole ring system is accomplished. The efficient protocol proceeds by the reaction of corresponding racemic or enantiomerically enriched pyrrolidines and readily available benzoylisothiocyanate in acetonitrile followed by sequential reaction of readily available alpha-bromo ketones in acetone. The selectivity and good yield in the desired product is another important advantage of this reaction protocol. In a few cases, the resulting N-benzoylthiourea intermediate cyclizes spontaneously before reacting with the benzophenone component. Finally, a wide study of the biological scope of this new bisheterocyclic molecules is reported. This work is a part of Samet Belveren's ongoing PhD thesis granted by Mersin University (Project no. Equity as a vehicle for law reform: The case of unilateral mistake

    No full text
In this paper I ask whether English Law should permit rescission for unilateral mistakes in the formation of contract, in circumstances where the defendant (D) knew or should have known about the claimant’s (C) mistake, and if so, should Equity be (re)employed to deploy the remedy. The paper introduces the Caveat Emptor Common Law rule on this issue, which rules out rescission, and the various considerations that count in its favour. I argue that neither considerations from efficiency, nor those based in ethics can justify the current rule, and that new, flexible and morally-sensitive resolution is called for. If we examine the way in which Equity intervenes to reform areas of law where the Common Law fails to provide a satisfactory solution to legal disputes, we will see that the Caveat Emptor rule displays exactly the kind of defects that Equity does a very good job at remedying. The law on the duty to disclose information at the precontractual stage emerges as an excellent example for Equity’s great potential as a vehicle for improving the law in a measured, nuanced and imaginative way.Peer reviewe
