Dynamic modeling of MIMO channels for railway transport
Ce modèle s'inspire globalement du modèle de canal utiliséThe exploitation, control and signalling systems for metro and especially modern driverless metros, are based on two families of radio communication systems Wireless : vital transmissions for signalling and train control low-flow and nonvital transmissions with very high bandwidth for video-tracking systems, telediagnosis, customer information, etc.. During the implementation ofsuch transmission systems, the industrial must therefore ensure the metro operator performance on throughput and transmission quality in terms of packet loss information. Therefore, understanding the behavior of the propagation channel is a key to predict and improve performance of transmission systems. The aim of this thesis is twin and concerns :• On the one hand, the computation time reduction of a 3D ray tracing simulator that accurately predicts the behavior of the propagation channel, but it is expensive in times of calculation for dynamic simulations. We propose here a new method based on three visibility criteria to simplify the geometry description of the environment without degrading the characteristic parameters prediction of the propagation channel ;• On the other hand, the construction of a new model for MIMO propagation channel dynamics in straight tunnel of rectangular section which will optimize transmission systems multi-antennary (MIMO) applications for wireless transmission in metros tunnel. This model draws broadly from the channel model used in the standard WINNER and is fed by the results extracted from the 3D ray tracing channel simulator. The results obtained in this thesis are encouraging and offer many opportunities
A hybrid radio channel model for industrial environment
This thesis focuses on the modeling of the propagation channel in industrial environments. In this context, the propagation channel has a different behavior than typically encountered in indoor. This is due to the construction of buildings that are larger and open and the presence of machines, moving objects and metal materials encountered in these environments. Thus, the existing indoor channel models are not valid. Using deterministic models as an alternative is possible, but limited by the computing time.To address this problem, we propose a hybrid channel model for communications in industrial environments inspired by a ray tracing method and Winner model. The originality of this model is its hybrid nature consisting, in preprocessing, in partitionning the environment in areas of visibility or non-visibility «weak» and «strong» based on deterministic criteria related to the wave propagation. A statistical model, as WINNER , using the concept of cluster is then played in each of these areas and faithfully reproducing the evolution of the characteristic parameters of the identified clusters. We have validated our model by comparing it firstly to a deterministic model and then to measurement. Its robustness as well that of WINNER are tested by simulating them in three different environments and by comparing them with the deterministic model
Parametric study and joint analysis modeling / measurements for the definition of indicators of exposure to electromagnetic waves in urban environment
With the increasing number of mobile phone users, new services and mobile applications, the proliferation of radio antennas has raised concerns about human exposure to electromagnetic waves. This is now a challenging topic to many stakeholders such as local authorities, mobile phone operators, citizen and consumer groups, etc. The assessment of human exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields in the urban environment is mainly based on numerical modeling. The improvement of computational tools together with the quantity and quality of available topographic data has strongly promoted this approach. Numerical modeling is now used in combination with several types of measurements to perform risk analysis and management. It is the basis of decision-making tools and local regulations. It is also used during consultations between the public, the industry, local authorities, governments and associations. The results of these methods are therefore increasingly important. This research contributes to gain knowledge about quantifying the human exposure from base stations through the combination of measurements and simulations, while taking into account the concept of variability of the electrical field. A first part of this work establishes the benefits and limitations of computational methods as well as measurements when assessing exposure to electric fields in urban environment. A second part of this work is aimed at characterizing the spatial and temporal variability of the actual exposure, which is a very important requirement because of the high variability of the electrical field and the difficulty of finding a relevant indicator to quantify the real exposure
Joint coding strategy for image transmission over MIMO system
This thesis presents a transmission strategy for exploiting the spatial diversity for image transmission over wireless channel. We propose an original approach based on the matching between the source hierarchy and the SISO sub-channels hierarchy, resulting from the MIMO channel decomposition. We evaluate common precoder performance in the context of this strategy via a realistic physical layer respecting the IEEE802.11n standard and associated with a transmission channel based on a 3D-ray tracer propagation model. It is shown that common precoders are not adapted for the transmission of a hierarchical content. Then, we propose a precoding algorithm which successively allocates power over SISO subchannels in order to maximize the received images quality. The proposed precoder achieves a target BER according to the channel coding, the modulation and the SISO subchannels SNR. From this precoding algorithm, we propose a link adaptation scheme to dynamically adjust the system parameters depending on the variations of the transmission channel. This solution determines the optimal coding/transmission configuration maximizing the image quality in reception. Finally, we present a study for take into account some psychovisual constraints in the assessment of the received images quality. We propose the insertion of a reduced reference metric based on psychovisual constraints, to assist the decoder in order to determine the decoding configuration providing the highest quality of experience. Subjective tests confirm the interest of the proposed approach
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Development of optimization strategies to up radio link performances
International audienceThe goal of this talk is to present our activities on Joint Source Channel Coding strategies for the transmission of a images or videos. To ensure the Quality of Service (QoS), we exploit the channel diversity with a Closed-Loop MIMO scheme. It relies on the Channel State Information (CSI) knowledge at the transmitter side that diagonalizes a MIMO channel into several hierarchical SISO subchannels. In the proposed schemes, the multimedia information codestream is divided into hierarchical quality layers passing through the SISO sub-channels. According to these strategies, we propose algorithms to maximize the visual quality in reception
