PRAGMATIČNI ELEMENTI U RJEČNIČKOME ČLANKU (UZ POLJSKE GLAGOLE GOVORENJA)

The article is based on the corpus consisting of lexemes and idioms which are formally or semantically related to verbs of speaking in the Croatian-Polish Dictionary by Milan Moguš and Neda Pintarić. Special attention is paid to lexemes denoting speaking only in the secondary, metaphorical meaning (e.g. kablować, kadzić). The author also analyzes the ways in which the verbs 'mowić' and 'gadać' have been presented in the dictionary, which includes a whole range of related idioms along with their main lexical meaning. Special emphasis is placed on a group of idioms which are not explicitly linked to verbs of speaking, but refer to this activity due to metaphorical meanings of other verbs.U članku se na primjerima glagola govorenja, zabilježenima u poljsko-hrvatskome rječniku (PHR), pokazuje na koji se način rabi pragmatični kvalifikator s obzirom na izražavanje različitih emocionalnih vrijednosti tih glagola i njihovih frazeologizama. Izdvajaju se tako izravni i preneseni leksemi glagola govorenja te izravni i preneseni frazeologizmi sa značenjem radnje govorenja

Reflexe příběhu Neda Kellyho v umělecké a memoárové literatuře

    No full text
NÁZEV: Reflexe postavy Neda Kellyho v umělecké a memoárové literatuře AUTOR: Adam Prentis KATEDRA: Katedra anglického jazyka a literatury VEDOUCÍ PRÁCE: PhDr. Petr Chalupský, Ph.D. ABSTRAKT: Práce se zabývá analýzou různých osobnostních aspektů Neda Kellyho, hlavní postavy knihy Petera Careyho True History of the Kelly Gang (Pravdivý příběh Kellyho party; 2000). I když je Ned Kelly historickou postavou, je k němu přistupováno jako k fiktivní postavě, se zaměřením na jeho australskou národnostní, mýtickou a mužskou symboličnost a na literární způsoby, kterými je těchto obrazů docíleno. Jednotlivé aspekty jsou vztaženy do vývojového kontextu skrze porovnání se staršími vyobrazeními této postavy - v knize Australian Son (1948) od Maxe Browna a The Complete Inner History of the Kelly Gang and their Pursuers (1929) od J. J. Kenneallyho - všechny tři texty zaujímají kladné stanovisko k Nedu Kellym. Je vysledován posun z konfrontační a idealisující obhajoby historické osoby k spíše mýtickému oslavování nedokonalého...TITLE: The Fictional Man: Ned Kelly in Peter Carey's True History of the Kelly Gang in Comparison with Older Portrayals AUTHOR: Adam Prentis DEPARTMENT: Department of English Language and Literature SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Petr Chalupský, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The thesis concerns itself with the analysis of various personality aspects of the protagonist of Peter Carey's True History of the Kelly Gang (2000) - Ned Kelly. Albeit a historical figure, Ned Kelly is approached as a fictional character with focus placed on his symbolic status of Australian nationality, myth and manhood, and on the literary means that point to this. The separate aspects are placed in an evolutionary context through comparisons with older portrayals of the same character - in Max Brown's Australian Son (1948) and J. J. Kenneally's The Complete Inner History of the Kelly Gang and their Pursuers (1929), all of which use a heroising approach to the man. The work shows that Ned Kelly may be perceived in many complex ways, with further possibilities for analysis suggested. Comparing the three books, it is found that although considerable unifying tendencies and moments exist, some aspects have a significant difference in focus or emphasis. A shift is noted from a confrontational idealising defence of what is perceived as a historical person to a...Katedra anglického jazyka a literaturyFaculty of EducationPedagogická fakult

Artificial neural networks for neutron/? discrimination in the neutron detectors of NEDA

Three different Artificial Neural Network architectures have been applied to perform neutron/gamma discrimination in NEDA based on waveform and time-of-flight information. Using the coincident gamma-rays from AGATA, we have been able to measure and compare on real data the performances of the Artificial Neural Networks as classifiers. While the general performances are quite similar for the data set we used, differences, in particular related to the computing times, have been highlighted. One of the Artificial Neural Network architecture has also been found more robust to time misalignment of the waveforms. Such a feature is of great interest for online processing of waveforms.National Science Centre, Poland (NCN) [2017/25/B/ST2/01569]; STFC [ST/P003885/1, ST/L005727/1] Funding Source: UKRIOne of the author acknowledges support of the National Science Centre, Poland (NCN) (grant no. 2017/25/B/ST2/01569)

Are Virtual Assistants Effective in Generating Customer-Firm Engagement? The Role of Social Media as a Component of Marketing Strategies.

ABSTRACT This paper examines the effects of utilizing voice assistants in addition to integrating social media in firms’ communication strategies. Many consumers are increasingly using voice assistants to communicate with companies. At the same time, the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the way customers are interacting with companies due to social distancing, stay-at-home orders, and mental overload during this unprecedented time. Firms that provide consumers with easier ways of communication, such as utilizing a voice assistant in customer service, could benefit from higher consumer engagement. The cognitive load theory is proposed to explore its applicability in assessing whether less mental effort in consumer-firm communications, resulting in consumers being more inclined to engage with companies. Three propositions are theorized and should be tested in future research. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Neda Mossaei is a PhD Candidate at the University of South Alabama. She is the CEO of the local dental practice and a lecturer at the California State University Bakersfield. She received her Master of Science in Business Administration from California State University Bakersfield. Her research interests include social media, digital marketing, and marketing strategy

The artist as a warrior: new heroic-mythological biographical modes in Neda Nezhdanaya's play "Otvetka@UA"

Тому авторці довелося шукати інші ресурси опрацювання цього образу, яким і присвячено статтю.he play about Vasyl Slipak, a soloist of the Paris National Opera who died in Eastern Ukraine in the summer of 2016 and returned to Ukraine to defend it at the front, was created by Neda Nezhdana in early 2017, at a time when her prototype is still in its infancy. A minimum of biographical information was published: the author managed to find information about opera parties that made him famous in Europe, scanty data on the singer’s volunteerism for Maidan and the Ukrainian army, she knew that the singer died unmarried, that he already had a chance to live peacefully after rotation, but still voluntarily returned to the front and fought there under the call sign “Myth”, in the end his life was taken by a bullet from a Russian sniper. As for a biographical work, even as sparing as a drama, the real biographical outline is minimal. Therefore, the author had to look for other resources to develop this image, which is the subject of the article. Objective is to analyze the new aesthetic resources of the dramatic heroic biography, inspired by the modern war in Eastern Ukraine, to reflect the models of their artistic realization in the play by Neda Nezhdana “OTVETKA@UA”.Methods: biographical, cultural-anthropological, receptive poetics, mythopoetics, structural-semantic.Results. Neda Nezhdana’s play “OTVETKA@UA” can be analyzed in different contexts – works of art about war in Eastern Ukraine, modern biographical dramas about the artist, new aesthetic resources of modern monodrama, etc. It differs in that at the time of its creation the author had little it is known about the world-famous singer and Ukrainian volunteer soldier Vasyl Slipak, whose image is realized in the work. After all, the first biographical book about this artist will be published two years after the publication and staging of a play about him. Therefore, the author had to look for other artistic resources that would allow to realize the planned author’s intention. Therefore, the actual biographical outline of the work is minimal, instead, it allows the author to experiment with the biography as a framework on which to string other dramatic strategies. In particular, in the absence of materials that a biographical character can speak on his own behalf, Neda Nezhdana sees the point in involving a fictional protagonist in the story and giving her the opportunity to testify about him. To do this, we have to create a plastic and dynamic image of the narrator, visualize her stage roles, resort to stage sketches and improvised reincarnations, marked by performative disguises. Instead, the biographical image itself is scattered, replicated, dissolved in other contexts. In this way, Vasyl Slipak’s biography is completed, and this process does not involve historical information and material artifacts, but “subtle matters” that are combined with philosophical, journalistic tone and light postmodern irony. The perfect image of the Hero can be created through the use of emphasized heroism, the leading modes of which are masculinity, mythology, military background and the manifestation of the author’s voice

Can reforming global institutions help developing countries share more in the benefits from globalization?

Globalization could significantly expand trade, international investment, and technological advances, but the gains from global integration have been unevenly distributed across and within nations. Greater global interdependence has also brought greater macroeconomic volatility, resulting in several serious financial crises in the second half of the 1990s. The global matrix of Bretton Woods and United Nations institutions that developed starting in the 1940s, formed under a different balance of power, in a world of fixed exchange rates and limited capital mobility. Since the 1960s regional financial institutions have emerged because of the greater autonomy of different regions and the greater financial needs of development. The author reviews different proposals for reform of the international financial institutions and changes in the roles of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. He highlights the implications for developing countries of (1) Policy conditionality. (2) The countercyclical role of multilaterals'lending. (3) Greater lending to middle-income than to low-income developing countries. (3) Access to liquidity at times of crisis. (4) Mechanisms for giving low-income countries a greater voice in IMF and World Bank decisionmaking. The author streses the overlapping responsibilities of the Bretton Woods and regional financial institutions and the need to reassess the allocation of responsibilities and to develop better coordination mechanisms between these institutions. Those designing institutional reform must consider the corporate capabilities of each type of institution. The corporate cultures of global and regional institutions differ. So does the kind of knowledge they generate and disseminate, and so do patterns of interactions with, and mechanisms for representation of, client countries. Finally, the author calls attention to the need to harmonize national and global growth-oriented policies in a way that reduces volatility and promotes social equity.Environmental Economics&Policies,Governance Indicators,Financial Intermediation,Economic Theory&Research,Banks&Banking Reform
