    Uranium adits in Potoczek

    No full text
In 1950–51 uranium ore mining was carried out in Potoczek in the southern part of the Kłodzko Valley. The work was the result of the search for uranium-bearing ores carried out from 1948 in the Kłodzko Valley and the Sudetes by Soviet geologists. On the slopes of Andrzejowa Góra in Potoczek at that time an adit with a shaft was built and the old adit in which iron ore was probably mined was rebuilt. By October 1951, 18 tons of ore containing 40 kg of uranium were mined in the mine, then the work was stopped and the tunnel inlets were blown off. In the years 2017–2019, exploration and inventory works were carried out to document the course, appearance and current condition of the mine. At that time, the backfilled shaft was cleared, the inlet of adit no. 2 was excavated and its course was documented over the length of 300 m. Due to the collapse in the main corridor and the general poor condition of the excavation, the research work must have been stopped

Hydroxyapatite-coated ZrO2 scaffolds with a fluorapatite intermediate layer produced by direct ink writing

    No full text
Zirconia scaffolds with total porosity ranging between 61.1 and 75.3 vol% were fabricated by direct ink writing. The rheology of the ink, as well as the density, morphology and mechanical properties of the produced ZrO2 scaffolds were characterized. The compressive strength was dependent upon the porosity level, and ranged from 20.8 to 62.9 MPa. ZrO2 scaffolds having porosity of 75.3 vol% were then coated with hydroxyapatite (HA) by slurry infiltration. To suppress the reaction upon sintering between HA and ZrO2, fluorapatite (FA) as an intermediate layer was introduced. The ZrO2/FA/HA scaffolds were immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) and physiological saline solution (0.9% NaCl) for up to 28 days to evaluate their bioactivity and dissolution behavior, respectively. ZrO2/HA/HA scaffolds were also tested, for comparison. The results show that the specimens with FA/HA layers possessed better bioactivity and exhibited slower dissolution rate than the samples with the HA/HA coating

Direct ink writing of three dimensional Ti2AlC porous structures

    No full text
In this work, the Direct Ink Writing (DIW)technique was used to produce three-dimensional Ti2AlC ceramic components with high, uniform porosity. Suitable formulations were developed, with appropriate rheological properties for extruding thin filaments through a nozzle with a diameter of 810 μm. The main rheological properties of the inks were investigated to evaluate their behavior and flowability during the printing process. Porous Ti2AlC lattices were fabricated, in selected conditions, with uniform pore size and good interconnectivity, and sintered at 1400 °C in Ar. Total porosity ranged from ∼44 to ∼63 vol%, and the mechanical strength ranged from ∼43 to 83 MPa. The influence of the ink composition and heat-treatment conditions on the phase composition of the 3D porous structures was also evaluated

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    No full text
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Krakow in the 19th and 20th century in Boy-Żeleński’s metaphors (on the material of Znaszli ten kraj? (Cyganeria krakowska)... and of Inne wspomnienia o Krakowie)

This article is an attempt to examine the function of metaphors in Boy-Żeleński’s columns, their role in shaping the atmosphere of this eminent writer’s works. The article shows how the author presents the world depicted in his works, and identifies the writer’s preferences in this respect. Its aims at excerpting the metaphors whose connotative cohesion has been consciously violated by the author. Special attention in paid to the way the author departs from some common linguistic conventions to create his unique style, which remains fascinating to this day.Uniwersytet w BiałymstokuŻeleński Boy T., 1983, Znaszli ten kraj? L'attaque de panique, le sexe des patients et la présence des profonds traumas psychiques

    No full text
Background: The author examined psychiatrically a group of 75 patients suffering from severe panic disorder. The special interest of the study was the careful analysis of the time, context and content of different psychological traumas that the patients had throughout their lives. Methods: The author examined 75 patients suffering from panic disorder during ambulatory treatment. There were 53 women (71%) and 22 men (29%). The average age was M=44.68 years (SD=12.68), and average duration of illness was M=5.19 years (SD=6.22). Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, Polish version 5.0.0, Panic and Agoraphobia Scale, Beck’s Depression Inventory and Life Inventory were used. Results: In the group of 75 patients with severe panic disorder, women were majority (71%). It may be due to specific trauma of suffering and/or death of an emotionally close person, which occurred in adulthood. This trauma may have impact on the aetiology of panic disorder. Women are more exposed to this sort of trauma due to their social role. Conclusion: It is possible, that psychological trauma affects the development, course and severity of panic disorder
