Electrochemical oxidation of oxalic acid and hydrazinium nitrate on platinum in nitric acid media

    No full text
Several studies in the literature have investigated the electrochemical effects of oxalic acid and hydrazine on various materials in neutral (pH buffered to 7), basic or weakly acidic media (pH 6). The present work proposes electrochemical techniques that allow for the study of the electrochemical behavior, on a Pt electrode, of oxalic acid and hydrazinium nitrate to better understand their oxidation mechanisms in a nitric acid medium at a pH below 1; in addition, some experiments were carried out to define an electrochemical method that would allow for the simultaneous detection of these species when present within process effluent in very acidic solutions. Some physical data regarding oxalic acid and hydrazinium nitrate were also determined: anodic oxidation of hydrazinium nitrate and oxalic acid were observed at 0.2 V and 0.7 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), respectively. The diffusion coefficients of hydrazinium nitrate and oxalic acid were found to be 5.2 × 10−6 and 2.9 × 10−7 cm2 s−1, respectively. An experimental design approach demonstrated the influence of nitric acid concentrations on the diffusion coefficients of these species

Artykuł charakteryzuje wybrane przykłady budynków, których elementy narracyjne zaczerpnięte zostały z kultury popularnej jako swoiste „przedmioty gotowe” lub na podstawie takich formowane. Autorka poszukuje powiązań pomiędzy powyższymi obiektami, stylistyką postmodernizmu, pop-artu i Marcela Duchampa. The article characterizes chosen examples of buildings whose narrative elements were taken from popular culture as a kind of "ready-made objects" or formed on such basis. The article’s author is looking for connections between these objects, postmodernism, pop-art and Marcel Duchamp’s ideas

Coup de fil à Pierre Restany : Marcel Broodthaers and Nouveau Réalisme

    No full text
Few months before he entered the art world by setting in plaster the remaining unsold copies of his book of poetry Pense-Bête, Marcel Broodthaers wrote in November 1963 the article Gare au défi! where he linked Pop Art’s concern with art and consumerism to the influence of Magritte’s works on American artists such as George Segal and Jim Dine. In the following years Broodthaers engaged in an ongoing reflection on Pop Art and Nouveau Réalisme that ended more or less with the exhibition Court Circuit in 1967. For the catalogue, Pierre Restany contributed the text J’attends ton coup de fil, Marcel! to which the artist replied ironically with the work Coup de Fil à Pierre Restany, a telephone wrapped in cotton. Departing from this mute ‘dialogue’ between the artist and the critic, the paper will discuss the ambiguous relationship that Broodthaers had with Pop Art and Nouveau Réalisme in relation to major concerns such as the commodity character of art and the concept of the ready-made

Pop music and characterisation in narrative film

This thesis discusses the use of pop songs in narrative films, with particular attention paid to their role in characterisation. My argument concerns the potential for pop to retain its specificity as a certain type of music whilst it carries out functions normally attributed to a composed score. Many commentators have assumed that, because a song may be known before it is used in a film, its narrative meanings are "pre-packaged". I combine an appreciation of pop music's propensity to come to a film already 'known' with an attempt to demonstrate how individual narratives ask songs to perform different affective roles. It is my contention that pop music's quality of 'knownness' is fundamental to its narrative affect in films, without, however, pre-determining that affect. I argue my case through close textual analysis, discussing the relationship between real-life pop stars' musical personas and the film characters they are asked to play, as well as offering numerous examples of songs without an on-screen performer becoming involved in processes of filmic narration

Brand management in the context of implementing the "community trademark" concept

    No full text
When making decisions concerning products and their brands, marketers have to take into account the politico-legislative environment. This environment consists of laws and governmental bodies which influence and limit the actions of different organisations and companies. The business legislation has developed in the course of time, making it, nowadays, possible to talk about a more significant legal component of marketing. A legal form of protection, offered by the legislative system, against unfair competition is the trade mark. The brand is a sign or a clue, which can be graphically represented, making it possible to distinguish between different similar products or services that are part of the same category, which can be registered making it possible this way for the owner to obtain exclusive rights and protection. From this perspective and also due to its capability to identify the product and its quality, the brand administration becomes an all-important marketing tool.brand, brand protection, community trademark.

CAPRI versus AGLINK-COSIMO: Two partial equilibrium models - Two baseline approaches

    No full text
The agricultural modelling world has generated several models aiming at the analysis of the response of the sector to certain changes in exogenous mainly policy variables. Among those, the CAPRI modelling system developed by a consortium centred on the University of Bonn and the AGLINK-COSIMO model, a joint product of the OECD and the FAO, are well known and accepted as comprehensive tools. This analysis focuses on a qualitative comparison of both models and particularly on the process of setting up the baseline. The baseline is a medium-term projection of agricultural markets reflecting current policies and those already decided upon. This projection in turn serves as the base for comparisons when analyzing scenarios. It is shown that CAPRI uses generic and automatic procedures whenever possible for conducting the database and the baseline, while AGLINK-COSIMO puts more emphasis on expert knowledge in this process. Both approaches are shown to have certain advantages while the conclusion that a combination of them would potentially improve both models will be drawn from this analysis.CAPRI, AGLINK-COSIMO, Baseline process, Agricultural and Food Policy,

    Wanderers: pop-up hotels in nature

There is a rich history of mankind’s relation with nature which is still used as a framework in today’s architecture. The framework is built on the fact modern structures are still able to awaken emotions from the past. In ancient times survival has been different compared to modern times. Man survived with whatever it could gather in the direct environment to create shelter, causing structures to be built on different principles. Modern technology allows to create structures with new techniques and mimic structures of the past. Combining these techniques with techniques to make pop-up structures adds an extra dimension to the design objective
