Nieminen, Anneli. Hyvän elämän kulmakiviä lastensuojelun avohuollon asiakkaille. Diak Pohjoinen, kevät 2013, 51s. Diakonia-ammattikorkeakoulu, Sosiaalialan koulutusohjelma, sosionomi (AMK) + diakonin virkakelpoisuus. Nieminen, Anneli. The data that underlie Anneli Sarhimaa\u27s excellent study were gathered between 1989 and 1992, under restrictive field circumstances. Visits to Karelia required what the author terms “intricate co-operation with academic and public authorities in Russia” (p. 76), and the duration of any stay was limited to a few weeks. From her home base in Finland, she made short visits to three Central Karelian villages in the summers of 1989 and 1991, working with additional Central Karelian speakers resident in the capital city of Karelia in the winters of 1990 and 1991; in 1992, a two-week trip allowed her to work in nine Tver Karelian villages in central Russia. That these compressed visits produced 30-some hours of taped interviews and 31 sets of translation-task data (15 Central Karelian, 16 Tver Karelian) does credit to her careful advance planning; the frankness with which she points to limitations in the resulting data does equal credit to her scholarly scrupulousness

Objective: To study possible relations between parents’ psychological stress, children’s selfesteem and children’s saliva cortisol levels with regard to a mild stressor (drawing a blood sample). Method: Parenting stress and serious life events at birth, age 1, age 2, age 5 and age 8, and children’s self-esteem at age 8 were assessed. 82 paired saliva samples just before and 30 minutes after a children’s blood was drawn were analyzed. Results: Repeated measure general linear models indicated a relation between higher parenting stress at age 1 (p=0.03) and at age 8 (p<0.01), and elevated cortisol levels. No relation was found for serious life events. Lack of self-esteem in the domain of mental well-being was related to elevated cortisol levels (p=0.02). Conclusion: Parenting stress related to elevated cortisol levels of their children cross-sectionally and longitudinally and may be used as an indicator for children’s psychological stress in epidemiological studies. This is a pre-copy-editing, author-produced PDF of an article accepted for publication in Journal of Pediatric Psychology following peer review. Title: Can oral vitamin B12 supplementation affect cognitive function in the elderly? - A systematic review Author: Charlotta Rubin and Anneli Svensson Supervisor: Frode Slinde Examiner: Anna Winkvist Programme: Programme in dietetics, 180/240 ECTS Type of paper: Bachelor’s thesis in clinical nutrition, 15 higher education credits Date: March 28, 2018 ___________________________________________________________________________ Background The prevalence of illness and deficiencies increase with age which affects inter alia the cognitive function. The ageing process also causes changes in the absorption capacity of for example vitamin B12 and approximately 5-20% of the elderly have low serum concentrations. Objective This systematic review aimed to study the scientific evidence for if oral supplementation with vitamin B12 affects cognitive function in the elderly compared to placebo. Search strategy Systematic literature searches were made in the databases PubMed and Scopus using the search terms “Vitamin B12”, “Cyanocobalamin”, “Cobalamin”, “Dietary supplements”, “Cognition”, “Cognitive”, “Aged” “Elderly”, “Aged, 80 and over”. Selection criteria Persons ≥65 years, placebo controlled, oral dose ≥650 μg, RCT, vitamin B12 as the only intervention. Studies where the whole population had a specific disease were excluded. Data collection and analysis The selected studies were reviewed using the “Template for quality of randomized trials” by SBU. The strength of the evidence was assessed using the GRADE template from the programme of dietetics at University of Gothenburg. Main results Two studies from two countries were included with a population of 330 people. The supplementation was given orally as 1000 μg cyanocobalamin for 24 weeks or twelve months. The results from two similar word memory tests were analysed. One of the studies showed a significant improvement in the placebo group but there was no other significant improvement in the two studies. Conclusions There is moderate (+++) evidence that high dose supplementation with vitamin B12 doesn’t affect memory function measured with word memory tests in the elderly with mild or moderate deficiency. Although the studies didn’t establish any effect on memory, there could still be reasons for supplementation as deficiencies are common in the elderly. Keywords: Vitamin B12, cognitive function, memory, elderly, oral supplementationTitel: Kan oral vitamin B12-supplementering påverka kognitiv funktion hos äldre? Nyckelord: Vitamin B12, kognitiv funktion, minne, äldre, oral supplementerin

Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition Abstract Title: Breakfast and cognition from a youth perspective Author: Linn Kruse and Anneli Hulldin Supervisor: Anna Winkvist Examiner: Frode Slinde Programme: Dietician study programme, 180/240 ECTS Type of paper: Examination paper, 15 hp Date: May 26, 2014 Background: Breakfast as an influencing factor on cognition and is often on the table for discussion in society. A lot of research has been done about how omitting breakfast affects adolescents and their short time cognition. Cognition is complex as a concept and is measured in different ways and the existing research in the area often compares different types of breakfasts instead of the difference between eating and omitting breakfast. Objective: To evaluate the scientific evidence for an association between adolescents’ breakfast eating and short time effects on cognition in adolescents. Search strategy: To find relevant articles a systematic literature search was made in the databases PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane. Search terms that were used were: children, young adults, adolescents, cognition, and breakfast Selection criteria: Ages 12-20 years, measures cognition, RCT, studies comparing breakfast eating with omitting breakfast, human studies, language English or Swedish, no sick adolescents or adolescents with diagnosis. Data collection and analysis: Two original articles met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed by the SBU audit template for RCT studies. The strength of evidence was evaluated using the GRADE system. Main results: Both included studies showed that breakfast has a positive effect on short time cognition. The strength of evidence for the studies was high (++++) Conclusions: There was some correlation between breakfast eating and short time effects on cognition among adolescents especially in more complex cognitive levels. Adolescents that eat breakfast have a better cognitive function than those who omit breakfast. The recommendation becomes that adolescents should eat breakfast every morning.

Georg Stiernhielms Idyllion Anacreonticum. (Money, Virtue, Friendship. Georg Stiernhielm’s Idyllion Anacreonticum.) The present study offers a comprehensive analysis of Georg Stiernhielm’s Idyllion Anacreonticum, its style, literary context and immediate reception. This anacreontic poem, dedicated to two men described as true friends tried in need, consists of a dialogue between the characters Orestes and Menalcas on the subject of how best to achieve and keep friends: through virtue or money. The poem was written in the aftermath of a most trying time for Stiernhielm, and the circumstances preceding the creation of Idyllion are analysed, drawing parallels between the poem’s style and characters and its author and original recipients. New light is thus shed on the elaborateness of Stiernhielm’s composition, with its levels of interplay between historical context and literary form. Idyllion’s underlying theme of choice between virtue and worldliness also has its counterpart in an intricate structure of chiastic, parallelistic and antithetic stylistic elements. On the surface, the form, metre and stylistic devices employed in Idyllion indicate skilful but conventional craft. In this poem, however, Stiernhielm offers innovative and poignant use of his own linguistic theories. Drawing on ideas from Plato’s Kratylos, he elaborates on the intrinsic meaning of sounds; thus important passages of the poem are stressed by accentuated usage of certain letters and phonemes. The play with hidden meanings is continued in the naming of the poem’s interlocutors, names which may have personal, political and also philosophical connotations. In addition to the interlocutors Orestes and Menalcas, the poem’s allegorical characters, the goddesses Minerva and Juno Moneta, are analysed. Stiernhielm’s definition of friendship is further discussed, as well as his presentation of the virtues necessary to obtain and maintain friendship. The analysis shows how these aspects of his ethics are expressed in Idyllion, and also how closely interconnected the poem is with the codes of behaviour expressed in Hercules and elsewhere in Stiernhielm’s works. The deeper significance of Idyllion can also be traced to Stiernhielm’s general philosophical programme. There is, as it were, an ongoing dialogue not only between the characters in Idyllion, but also between Idyllion and other works by its author. Through skilful and elaborate composition Stiernhielm thus manages to blend sincerity and satire and to provide an in all respects meaningful whole
