Quasiequilibrium multistate cellular automata
No full textIn our effort to tackle the problem of letting nontrivial interactions, thermodynamic equilibrium, and full synchronicity coexist, and in the hope of reviving interest in cellular automata as promising tools for the quantitative, large-scale investigation of multiparticle systems, we built a fully synchronous cellular automaton rule for the simulation of occupancy-based lattice systems with multistate cells and neighboring interactions. The core of this rule, which constitutes an actual synchronous sampling scheme, is a negotiation stage; it produces cell occupancy distributions in very good agreement with their sequential Monte Carlo counterparts, and it satisfies a cellwise detailed balance principle thanks to the use of "mixed"intermediate states that allow for the computation of locally averaged acceptance probabilities. We took a square lattice (but the rule itself is not bound by dimensionality) as a basis for comparison with sequential Monte Carlo for showing that this synchronous rule leads to quasiequilibrium; the fulfillment of cellwise detailed balance is shown through results obtained for a small one-dimensional system, where the transition matrix could be computed exactly

Esistono passi memorabili [sdegnosi, come al solito di ogni mera attualità, per il recupero di un’arte che attraversa i secoli] che l’Autore pone a fondamento delle modalità di rifondazione della città distrutta. Is right angular gyrus involved in the metric component of the mental body representation in touch and vision? A tdcs study
No full textSeveral studies have found in the sense of touch a good sensory modality by which to study body representation. Here, we address the “metric component of body representation”, a specific function developed to process the discrimination of tactile distances on the body. The literature suggests the involvement of the right angular gyrus (rAG) in processing the tactile metricity on the body. The question of this study is the following: is the rAG also responsible for the visual metric component of body representation? We used tDCS (anodal and sham) in 20 subjects who were administered an on-body distance discrimination task with both tactile and visual stimuli. They were also asked to perform the same task in a near-body condition. The results allow us to confirm the role of rAG in the estimation of tactile distances. Further, we also showed that rAG might be involved in the discrimination of distances on the body not only in tactile but also in visual modality. Finally, based on the significant effects of anodal stimulation even in a near-body visual discrimination task, we proposed a higher-order function of the AG in terms of a supramodal com-parator of quantities

No full textFacebook è il regno degli ossimori: mixa palcoscenico e retroscena goffmaniani, broadcasting e narrowcasting, downloading e uploading, comunicazione sincrona e asincrona; è convergenza digitale e continua ri-mediazione, testualizzazione e vetrinizzazione identitaria. Come gli altri sociali network riempie i buchi strutturali del sociale (Burt 1992) e vicaria esperienze sequestrate (Giddens 1991). Fb si configura come il regno del surplus cognitivo (Shirky 2011) e del continuo multitasking, della costante sincronizzazione di contributi individuali e appartenenze sociali; è un metamedium: multimediale/modale, intertestuale e ipertestuale. In facebook regnano il capitalismo informazionale (Castells 1996) e i beni di consumo incospicuo, il cognitariato e la digital sharing economy. La ristrutturazione dei palcoscenici sociali diventa, con gli ambienti del web 2.0, una lacerazione irrimediabile del paradigma drammaturgico di Goffman. Chiunque può essere al centro della scena, bricoleur del proprio repertorio comunicativo e manager (Haddon 2003) nella gestione delle modalità, dei tempi e degli spazi della comunicazione. Fb testimonia i recenti approcci hyperpersonal della Computer mediated communication secondo cui la CMC è satura di segnali sociali, epistemologie interpersonali, identità, relazioni, performance. Questa sorta di autobiografia collettiva, di immenso ipertesto intessuto di link implica la virtualizzazione del legame sociale e la composizione di portafogli relazionali attivabili all'occorrenza. Il sè individuale è collocato in una corrente di "we sense" generazionale condiviso dove l'autonarrazione, fortemente riflessiva, si sviluppa in un contesto ad alto potenziale connettivo. Il self e l'other monitoring sono una sfida continua perchè la" proprietà situazionale" degli utenti non è immediatamente intuibile. Scaling-Up Simulations of Diffusion in Microporous Materials
No full textWe introduce and demonstrate the coarse-graining of static and dynamical properties of host-guest systems constituted by methane in two different microporous materials. The reference systems are mapped to occupancy-based pore-scale lattice models. Each coarse-grained model is equipped with an appropriate coarse-grained potential and a local dynamical operator, which represents the probability of interpore molecular jumps between different cages. Coarse-grained thermodynamics and dynamics are both defined based on small-scale atomistic simulations of the reference systems. We considered two host materials: the widely studied ITQ-29 zeolite and the LTA-zeolite-templated carbon, which was recently theorized. Our method allows for representing with satisfactory accuracy and a considerably reduced computational effort the reference systems while providing new interesting physical insights in terms of static and diffusive properties
