Information systems evaluation in context–impact of the corporate level
The paper presents the results of a doctoral research related to Information Systems
evaluation in context. The authors propose changes in the context, the new level of contextual
analysis was added: the system context located between the internal and external context. The
system context reflects the fact that the case companies are business units and parts of the
corporations and IS evaluation is influenced by the corporation, Three levels of context
analysis can be used in case of IS evaluation in complex structures, such as corporations or
supply chain
On the newest cosmetic vocabulary of contemporary Polish lexis
The source material for this article comes from the issued in 2013 lexicon Słowa, słowa... Czy je znasz? (Words, words ... Do you know them?) edited by Teresa Smółkowa, containing lexical units of the non-specialist press published since the 90s of the twentieth century to 2012 in both paper and electronic versions. It turns out, however, that among the 212 words and compounds appearing in it, and belonging to the cosmetic vocabulary, only 70 can be regarded as the newest. There are lexical units representing mainly two subfields: the names of treatments (e.g. body wrapping, manicure hybrydowy, zabieg lunchowy), names of cosmetics (e.g. nutrikosmetyk, odmładzacz, płyn micelarny) and associated with their use names of professionals working in the cosmetics industry (e.g. linergistka, tipista) and names associated with the functioning of new types of the beauty salons (e.g. day spa, nail spa).Anna Piotrowicz - Uniwersytet im. Capturing play activities of young children to detect autism red flags
The use of IoT devices to monitor activities of users is an established methodology in e-health and ambient assisted living, even if its adoption is still limited to a few, albeit popular, applications. We propose its adoption also in a niche application, namely the observation of young children during their games, which is a common test performed by specialists to diagnose autistic spectrum disorders in an early stage. Specifically, we describe an IoT system that employs miniaturized sensors and data fusion algorithms based on machine learning to identify automatically the movements applied to the toys by the children, and we propose a protocol for its use in the forthcoming pilot experiments
JÓZEF PIOTROWICZ, PhD HISTORIAN, MUSEUM CURATOR (1930-2014)
Józef Piotrowicz, humanities scholar, historian and museum curator, died on 2 May, 2014. Born in Bochnia and educated in a milieu of outstanding Cracow historians, he graduated from the department of history and philology at the Jagiellonian University in 1954. After eight years of work at the National Museum in Krakow as a researcher at the Czartoryski Library, in 1962 he transferred to the Cracow Saltworks Museum, which was then extending its academic departments. Piotrowicz was Director of the History Department. Thus, he combined his passion for research with exhibition-oriented activities.Piotrowicz’s research focused primarily on the origins of salt mining, its periodisation, normative acts, as well as the significance of medieval salt conferrals to convents and other churchinstitutions in Poland. Moreover, the questions of European salt mining and Wieliczka’s and Bochnia’s local history fell also within his scope of interests. He organised numerous academic sessions, spoke at international conferences of European mining historians and was a frequent visitor to mining museums. Piotrowicz was the creator of the Museum’s first permanent exhibitions, both the underground display and the Saltworks Castle collections, as well as a number of temporary exhibitions, including those presented abroad. He contributed greatly to the process of justifying why the Wieliczka Salt Mine should be included on the UNESCO World Heritage list, oversaw the reconstruction and functioning of the Saltworks Castle complex, and authored the academic commentary to the edition of the Cracow saltworks’ description from 1518, a text recently added to the first Polish National List of UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme. An excellent and erudite scholar and populariser, Piotrowicz was able to establish contact with virtually anybody, regardless of their professional or social background; conversations with him were true intellectual adventures. His passion was contagious.2 maja 2014 r. zmarł Józef Piotrowicz – humanista, historyk, muzealnik. Urodzony w Bochni, wychowany w środowisku wybitnych krakowskich historyków, w 1954 r. ukończył studia historyczne i filologiczne na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim. Po 8 latach pracy w Muzeum Narodowym w Krakowie w charakterze pracownika naukowego Biblioteki Czartoryskich, w 1962 r. przeszedł do rozbudowującego wówczas swe działy merytoryczne Muzeum Żup Krakowskich Wieliczka. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Physics of the helicon antenna on the prototype materials exposure experiment
"Proto-MPEX has been operating in a high-density “helicon-mode” of operation. The helicon mode of operation is classified by an increase in target on-axis electron density (6e19 m^-3) and a decrease in electron temperature (2 – 3 eV) during a helicon pulse. This transition is observed when Deuterium gas is puffed into the device and is dependent on operating configurations. The Proto-MPEX helicon antenna is a quarter turn right handed helical twist antenna powered by RF at 13.56 MHz and > 110 kW of power. Establishing plasma densities and magnetic field strengths under the antenna that suppress non-resonant mode conversion to the slow-wave are thought to be responsible for operating in the ""helicon-mode"". Evidence for this phenomena to be responsible for the ""helicon-mode"" of operation is presented.
The experimental results showing evidence of this phenomena are presented here. First, we present time-resolved measurements of an edge-to-core power transition during a ""helicon-mode"" plasma pulse in the form of infra-red camera imaging of a thin stainless steel target plate. The time-resolved images measure the two-dimensional distribution of power deposition in the helicon discharge. The discharge displays a mode transition characterized by a significant increase in the on-axis electron density and core power coupling, suppression of edge power coupling and the formation of a fast-wave radial normal mode. Although the self-consistent mechanism that drives this transition is not yet understood, the edge-to-core power transition displays characteristics that are consistent with the discharge entering a slow-wave anti-resonant regime. RF magnetic field measurements made across the plasma column, together with the power deposition results, provide direct evidence to support the suppression of the slow-wave in favour of core plasma production by the fast-wave in a light-ion helicon source.
A full wave model of the helicon antenna has been made in the finite element analysis software, COMSOL Multiphysics, to investigate the wave fields produced and the power deposition inside the Proto-MPEX device. Core electron density and magnetic field under the helicon is scanned while tracking core power deposition. The peaks of core power deposition in this parameter space are then investigated and the propagating modes are analyzed. These areas of increased core power deposition are then identified as helicon normal modes that are predicted to decrease edge coupling of power and increase core power coupling by suppressing the non-resonant mode conversion of the fast-wave to the slow-wave in the periphery of the plasma."Submission original under an indefinite embargo labeled 'Open Access'. Post-COVID-19 acute sarcopenia: physiopathology and management
In this review, we discuss the pathophysiologic and management aspects of acute sarcopenia in relation to SARS-CoV-2 infection. COVID-19 is as a multi-organ infectious disease characterized by a severe inflammatory and highly catabolic status, influencing the deep changes in the body build, especially the amount, structure, and function of skeletal muscles which would amount to acutely developed sarcopenia. Acute sarcopenia may largely impact patients’ in-hospital prognosis as well as the vulnerability to the post-COVID-19 functional and physical deterioration. The individual outcome of the COVID-19 and the degree of muscle mass and functional loss may be influenced by multiple factors, including the patient’s general pre-infection medical and functional condition, especially in older adults. This paper gathers the information about how the SARS-CoV-2 hyper-inflammatory involvement exacerbates the immunosenescence process, enhances the endothelial damage, and due to mitochondrial dysfunction and autophagy, induces myofibrillar breakdown and muscle degradation. The aftermath of these acute and complex immunological SARS-CoV-2-related phenomena, augmented by anosmia, ageusia and altered microbiota may lead to decreased food intake and exacerbated catabolism. Moreover, the imposed physical inactivity, lock-down, quarantine or acute hospitalization with bedrest would intensify the acute sarcopenia process. All these deleterious mechanisms must be swiftly put to a check by a multidisciplinary approach including nutritional support, early physical as well cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation, and psychological support and cognitive training. The proposed holistic and early management of COVID-19 patients appears essential to minimize the disastrous functional outcomes of this disease and allow avoiding the long COVID-19 syndrome. © 2021, The Author(s)
