Garantia autónoma : limites da autonomia e limites da automaticidade : limites à invocação do abuso do direito de crédito do beneficiário da garantia
Os limites dos créditos dos beneficiários das garantias autónomas têm sido campo fértil de produção doutrinal no último meio século, para além de ser em torno dos mesmos que se centra a maior parte da litigância relativa a contratos de garantia autónoma. Pretendemos, nesta investigação, refletir sobre os limites da autonomia e da automaticidade das garantias autónomas, com particular destaque para o estudo dos limites á invocação do abuso do direito de crédito do beneficiário da garantia (debruçando-nos, com maior atenção, sobre a prova da falta de fundamento material da solicitação).The limits on the claims of the beneficiaries of autonomous guarantees have been a fertile field of doctrine over the last half century, and it is around these limits that most of the litigation regarding autonomous guarantee contracts is centered.
In this research, we intend to reflect critically on the limits of the autonomy and automaticity of autonomous guarantees, with particular emphasis on the study of the limits to the invocation of abuse of the beneficiary's right to credit (focusing, with greater attention, on the proof of the lack of material basis of the request)
Evaluation of subcutaneous proleukin (Interleukin-2) in a randomized international trial (ESPRIT): Geographical and gender differences in the baseline characteristics of participants
Background: ESPRIT, is a phase III, open-label, randomized, international clinical trial evaluating the effects of subcutaneous recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2) plus antiretroviral therapy (ART) versus ART alone on HIV-disease progression and death in HIV-1-infected individuals with CD4+ T-cells ≥300 cells/μL. Objectives: To describe the baseline characteristics of participants randomized to ESPRIT overall and by geographic location. Method: Baseline characteristics of randomized participants were summarized by region. Results: 4,150 patients were enrolled in ESPRIT from 254 sites in 25 countries. 41%, 27%, 16%, 11%, and 5% were enrolled in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Australia, respectively. The median age was 40 years, 81% were men, and 76%, 11%, and 9% were Caucasian, Asian, and African American or African, respectively. 44% of women enrolled (n = 769) were enrolled in Thailand and Argentina. Overall, 55% and 38% of the cohort acquired HIV through male homosexual and heterosexual contact, respectively. 25% had a prior history of AIDS-defining illness; Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia, M. tuberculosis, and esophageal candida were most commonly reported. Median nadir and baseline CD4+ T-cell counts were 199 and 458 cells/μL, respectively. 6% and 13% were hepatitis B or C virus coinfected, respectively. Median duration of antiretroviral therapy (ART) was 4.2 years; the longest median duration was in Australia (5.2 years) and the shortest was in Asia (2.3 years). 17%, 13%, and 69% of participants began ART before 1995, between 1996 and 1997, and from 1998 onward, respectively. 86% used ART from two or more ART classes, with 49% using a protease inhibitor-based regimen and 46% using a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor-based regimen. 78% had plasma HIV RNA below detection (<500 cp/mL). Conclusion: ESPRIT has enrolled a diverse population of HIV-infected individuals including large populations of women and patients of African-American/African and Asian ethnicity often underrepresented in HIV research. As a consequence, the results of the study may have wide global applicability

Católica Porto Law School of Portugal annually awards dozens of students a master\u27s degree in law, in seven areas of specialization, as well as a master\u27s degree in law and management. In order to give visibility to the result of the research, the Católica Porto Law School took the decision to publish the master\u27s dissertations that obtained the highest classifications. Thus, the best master\u27s dissertations whose exams have been completed until December 8 of the previous calendar year are published annually. This dissemination allows us to share quality research with the rest of the scientific community. In addition, it is an incentive for the qualification of the research of master\u27s students in Law and in Law and Management. It is our conviction that this initiative contributes to a fruitful sharing of knowledge and that it allows the opening of a path of dialogue with the legal community and civil society. This issue includes thirty-one dissertations. They are presented in alphabetical order by author and cover areas as diverse as Criminal Law, International and European Law, Company and Business Law, Labour Law, Administrative Law, Tax Law, and Private Law.

Com o intuito de dar visibilidade ao resultado da investigação, a Escola do Porto da Faculdade de Direito tomou a decisão de publicar as dissertações de mestrado que obtiveram as mais elevadas classificações. Assim, são publicadas, anualmente, as melhores dissertações de mestrado cujas provas se tenham realizado até ao dia 8 de dezembro do ano civil anterior. Esta divulgação permite partilhar investigação de qualidade com a demais comunidade científica. Para além disso, constitui um incentivo para a qualificação da investigação dos mestrandos em Direito e em Direito e Gestão. É nossa convicção que esta iniciativa contribui para uma profícua partilha de conhecimento e que permite a abertura de uma via dialogante com a comunidade jurídica e a sociedade civil. O presente número integra trinta e uma dissertações. Global tipping points report 2025
As COP30 approaches, we’ve synthesised the latest research on tipping points – both positive and negative – into the Global Tipping Points Report 2025. A total of 160 authors, from 23 countries and 87 institutions contributed. Together, we’ve consolidated knowledge on how to govern Earth system tipping points, the risks they pose, and the opportunities presented by understanding and acting on positive tipping points.Peer ReviewedArticle signat per 160 autors/es:
