Evolución de los estudios arqueométricos de cerámica y vidrio en las revistas de Ciencia y Tecnología Cerámica. Un análisis comparativo de BSECV, JECerS y JACerS en el periodo 2000-2023
[EN] Studies of ceramics and glass from an archaeometric perspective have considerably increased during the last few decades in Ceramic Science and Technology journals. This paper presents a bibliometric study undertaken on 147 archaeometric articles published between 2000 and 2023 in the Q1 high impact journals Boletín de la Sociedad Española de Cerámica y Vidrio (BSECV), Journal of the European Ceramic Society (JECerS) and Journal of the American Ceramic Society (JACerS). The study was carried out with the aim at determining the impact and evolution of Archaeometry in these journals, the characteristics of the materials studied, and the level of interdisciplinarity and interinstitutional collaboration in the archaeometric works published. The main parameters analyzed were: number of archaeometric publications, materials studied, authors, and institutions. Resulting data indicated that journals have experienced an increase in archaeometric works on historical and archeological ceramics and glass, and BSECV is the journal with the highest representation. Spanish universities and other public institutions have a very outstanding representation in all three journals. In recent years, archaeometric approaches have included more authors and institutions from different countries, which evidences a high level of interdisciplinarity and interinstitutional collaboration.[ES] Los estudios de cerámica y vidrio desde una perspectiva arqueométrica han aumentado considerablemente en las últimas décadas en las revistas de Ciencia y Tecnología Cerámica. Este trabajo presenta un estudio bibliométrico de 147 artículos arqueométricos publicados entre 2000 y 2023 en las revistas Q1 de alto impacto Boletín de la Sociedad Espanola ˜ de Cerámica y Vidrio (BSECV), Journal of the European Ceramic Society (JECerS) y Journal of the American Ceramic Society (JACerS). Los principales parámetros analizados fueron: número de trabajos arqueométricos, materiales estudiados, autores e instituciones. Los resultados indicaron que las revistas han experimentado un incremento en las publicaciones arqueométricas de cerámica y vidrio históricos y arqueológicos, siendo el BSECV la revista con una mayor representatividad. Las universidades y otras instituciones públicas espanolas ˜ tienen una representación muy destacada en las tres revistas. Analysis of glass beads from Cultural Heritage for authentication purposes [Dataset]
The considered glass beads were compositionally characterized using a multi-analytical approach.
FESEM examinations were accomplished on polished surfaces and fractures, as well as on cross-sections inlayed into cold-setting epoxy resin and later mirror-polished using an aqueous suspension of cerium oxide. The FESEM employed was a Hitachi S-4800 cold cathode equipment, working with acceleration voltages of 7 and 15 kV. A 20 mm2 Oxford X-Max system coupled to the electron microscope with a resolution of 125 eV (Mn Kα) was used for EDS microanalyses. Samples were previously sputter-coated with graphite on a JEOL JEE4b vaporizer to make them conductive.
Laser-induced Breakdown Spectrocopy (LIBS) analyses were performed using laser excitation at 266 nm (4th harmonic of a Q-switched Nd: YAG laser (Lotis TII, LS-2147), 15 ns pulses, 1 Hz repetition rate). LIB spectra were recorded using a 0.2 m Czerny-Turner spectrograph (Andor, Shamrock Kymera-193i-A) equipped with a grating of 1800 grooves/mm (blazed at 265 nm) and coupled to a time-gated intensified charge-coupled device (ICCD) camera (Andor Technology, iStar CCD 334, 1024x1024 active pixels, 13 µm x 13 µm pixel). The ICCD detector is synchronized with the Q-Switch output electrical signal that triggers the laser pulse. The laser beam was directed to the surface of the samples by the use of mirrors at an incidence angle of 45°. Focusing with a 10 cm focal length lens allowed fluences in the range of 9–15 J/cm2. LIB spectra were recorded in the 240–600 nm wavelength range using a step and glow mode at intervals of 30 nm. The spectra were acquired at a 0.17 nm resolution with a gate delay and width of 200 nanoseconds and 3 microseconds, respectively. For higher wavelengths, a cut-off filter at 300 nm was placed in front of the entrance window of the spectrograph to reduce the scattered laser light and to avoid second-order diffractions.
An Ocean Optics HR 4000 CG equipment was used for UV–Vis spectrophotometry. Spectra were acquired by absorption or reflection and recorded in the 200–1000 nm wavelength range.
XRF analysis was recorded with a PANalytical instrument, model Magi-X, of wavelength dispersion provided with an X-ray tube of rhodium anode (2.4 kW). Analytical recordings were accomplished using the IQ + software (PANalytical) based on fundamental patterns of synthetic oxides and natural minerals. Samples were prepared in a
Perl’X3 Philips instrument starting from the powdered glasses and compacting them as pearls by melting at 1100 ºC (homogeneous mixture of 0.3 g of powdered glass with 5.5 g Li2B4O7).
Data life: 2025- (unlimited validity)This is the experimental dataset used in the paper Talanta, 286: 127510 (2025) (http://hdl.handle.net/10261/380008) in which through a multi-analytical approach modern and historic glass beads are analysed to provide markers that allows unmasking imitations, counterfeiting, and forgerie.
In total 9 historical glass beads (H-01 to H-09) from archaeological excavations in Spain and Mozambique (Late iron age, 7th and 12th century AD) and 12 modern glass beads (M-01 to M-12) of similar colour and transparency than the historical one were analysed via X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (FESEM-EDS), UV-Vis spectrophotometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS).

Ceramic containers from the San Diego shipwreck and their archaeometric study in a global world: The Manila Galleon in 1600 ad
[EN] This article presents the archaeometric study of a set of ceramic containers recovered from the wreck of the San Diego galleon, which sank off in 1600 in the Philippine coast as it began its voyage as the Manila Galleon. Although Asian, Spanish, or New Spanish origins have been attributed to such containers based on typological criteria, they had not yet been demonstrated using archaeometric techniques. The application of these techniques to determine their technology of production and provenance revealed two distinct technologies: Southeast Asian stoneware from up to six different origins, and Spanish earthenware from the Guadalquivir Valley. These data establish with higher precision the provenance of Southeast Asian goods traded by the Manila Galleon to New Spain and Europe between the late 16th and early 17th centuries ad.[ES] Este artículo presenta el estudio arqueométrico de un conjunto de contenedores cerámicos recupera-dos en el pecio del galeón San Diego que se hundió en 1600 en la costa filipina cuando iniciaba su viaje como Galeón de Manila. Aunque por criterios tipológicos se habían atribuido orígenes asiáticos, españoles o novohispanos a los contenedores, estas procedencias todavía no se habían demostrado con técnicas arqueométricas. La aplicación de estas técnicas para determinar su tecnología de producción y procedencia reveló dos tecnologías distintas: gres del sudeste asiático con hasta seis orígenes diferentes y loza española del valle del Guadalquivir. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Aproximación arqueométrica a un conjunto de vidrios de la ciudad romana de Segobriga (Saelices, Cuenca)
An archaeometric approach of a set of Roman glasses from Segobriga (Saelices, Cuenca) has been made in order to know their technological peculiarities, the characteristics of raw materials and their state of conservation. Through the use of conventional chemical-physical techniques (UV-Vis, XRF, FESEM and EDS) it has been determined that it deals with soda lime silica glasses to which mineral natron was added as flux. The material is of high quality compared to other glasses from Hispania due to selection of quartz-rich and poor in iron impurities sands. Besides, glassmakers used manganese and antimony oxides to decolorize glass. Raw material probably came from Eastern Mediterranean and was traded to western workshops and inland of the Iberian Peninsula. The glasses have experienced a surface degradation caused by water attack during burial and the accumulation of carbonate-rich deposits.Se ha realizado una aproximación arqueométrica a un conjunto de vidrios romanos procedentes de Segobriga (Saelices, Cuenca) con el propósito de conocer sus peculiaridades tecnológicas, las características de las materias primas y su estado de conservación. Mediante el uso de técnicas químico-físicas convencionales (UV-Vis, FRX, MEBEC y EDS) se ha determinado que se trata de vidrios de silicato sódico cálcico a los que se aportó natrón mineral como fundente. El material es de gran calidad con respecto a otros vidrios hispanos debido a la selección de arenas ricas en cuarzo y pobres en impurezas de hierro. Además, los vidrieros usaron óxidos de manganeso y de antimonio para decolorar el vidrio. La materia prima procede probablemente del Mediterráneo Oriental y viajó a los talleres occidentales y del interior peninsular. Los vidrios han experimentado una degradación superficial causada por el ataque del agua durante el enterramiento y la acumulación de depósitos ricos en carbonatos
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. COPACUL: An Innovative Didactic Project on Heritage Conservation for High School Students
The present contribution discloses the didactic project called COPACUL, which is an innovative didactic experience on Heritage conservation for high school students developed within the background of a more general research project focused on the systematization of methods and protocols for integral conservation of Cultural Heritage materials and their social valorization. The project is based on the current Spanish educational law as the framework from which to build a didactic proposal with transversal competences between different areas of knowledge such as Biology and Geology, Geography and History, Physics and Chemistry, as well as Plastic, Visual and Audiovisual education, using didactic tools under the perspective of Science, Technology and Society (STS). The COPACUL project comprises either didactic sequences in classrooms or practical workshops complemented with visits or combining workshops and visits to museums. Concentración de óxido de estaño y su evolución en los esmaltes o vidriados de cerámicas de tipo Fajalauza (siglos XV-XXI)
Este artículo está sujeto a una licencia CC BY NC ND 3.0Se presentan los resultados de la caracterización arqueométrica de los esmaltes o vidriados de una selección representativa de fragmentos de cerámica de tipo Fajalauza como parte de un amplio estudio sobre la evolución tecnológica de esta popular producción granadina. El conjunto cerámico comprende un amplio periodo cronológico que abarca desde finales de la época morisca en el siglo XV hasta las producciones actuales del siglo XXI. La caracterización arqueométrica se realizó mediante lupa binocular, fluorescencia de rayos X (FRX), difracción de rayos X (DRX), microscopía electrónica de barrido de emisión de campo (MEBEC), microanálisis de espectrometría de dispersión de energía de rayos X (EDS), análisis petrográfico mediante lámina delgada y espectrofotometría UV-Vis. Los resultados han proporcionado datos importantes sobre algunos de los procesos tecnológicos implicados en la producción de la cerámica de Fajalauza como la monococción, así como una progresiva disminución del contenido de SnO2 empleado como opacificante en los esmaltes o vidriados que usan como base óxido de plomo (PbO). Así, mientras el contenido de PbO se mantiene estable (entre ~30-50 % en peso), la concentración de SnO2 va disminuyendo desde ~12-15 % en peso en ejemplares de los siglos XVI y XVII hasta valores cercanos a 4 % en peso en cerámicas del siglo XIX. La constatación de este patrón puede relacionarse con el progresivo aumento del precio de este metal con el avance de los siglos, así como con su progresiva escasez. La sustitución de SnO2 por zircona (ZrO2) se ha verificado analíticamente en producciones desde finales del siglo XX.Apoyo económico de los proyectos HERICARE (Ref.
